Jesus didn't call himself the "Son of God" did he? and he never spoke of the Trinity. So why do we believe in these essential concepts?

God came to us in the person of His son Jesus Christ for the sole purpose of enduring the wrath of God that is hanging over our heads because of our sins.

JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD

In the beginning was Jesus (a.k.a. The Word), and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God. Jesus was with God in the beginning. (John 1:1-2)

There are Three who were present in the beginning: The Father, Jesus The Son, and The Holy Spirit; and These Three are One God. (1 John 5:7)

read John 3:16

there Jesus speaks of Himself as the Son of God. and also in other places He speaks of Him and His Father(God) being One. so if He refers to God as His Father, wouldn't it make sense that He's His Son?

the actual word "trinity" is not found in the Bible but the concept is all over the place. the Trinity is just the name given to describe the concept. Jesus spoke of the Holy Spirit being God, Himself being God, and the Father being God. so man has just given this concept the name of "Trinity"

this is the best way i have ever heard the concept of the Trinity being explained:

the Trinity describes the 3 different types of relationships that God has with us or the 3 ways that God relates to us:

1. as Father = God over us
2. as Son = God with us
3. as Spirit = God within us

this is the best and most brief definition i have ever heard. this thought used to confuse me as well.

this is a very brief explanation i have given you, but this is a very in-depth topic. but for the sake of time...

i hope this helps you. God bless you!

That's the way I've learned it also...

In determining if the Trinity is Biblical we must examine what the Bible reveals about the identity of who God is. For people this is hard, but if we are going to be honest we must set aside our personal thoughts.

The Bible teaches that there is only one God. (Isaiah 43:10, Isaiah 44:6-8, Isaiah 45:22)
The Bibles teaches that there is one who is called the Father and is identified as being God. (1 Peter 1:2)
The Bible teaches that there is one who is called Jesus and is identified as being God. (John 1:1-3&14-18, John 20:28-29, 1 John 1:1-4&5:20, Philippians 2:5-8, Revelation 1:17-18, Revelation 22:12-20)
The Bible teaches that there is one who is called the Holy Spirit and is identified as being God. (John 14:16-17, John 15:26, John 16:7-15, Acts 5:3-4, Acts 13:2, 1 Corinthians 12:4-18, Hebrews 9:14, Hebrews 10:15-18)
The above points and Scriptures clearly point out that there is only one God from eternity who has been revealed as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

yep

this is a very hard thing for people who are new to the faith to grasp. i tried to convince an old friend about this and it just turned her completely off because she couldn't understand it.

this is one of those things that you 1st have to accept by faith and as time goes by God will begin to reveal the concept to you more and more.

but a lot of people do have a hard time understanding how God could be One, yet have 3 distinct personalities like this. they think that it means that we're serving 3 gods and that's certainly not the case. people who make such claims have no true knowledge of what the Bible teaches about the Trinity.

God bless the both of you.

Yes, I had a problem with it here when I first became a member, and the moderators kept asking me if I believe the Nicene Creed.

do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? John 10:36

the high priest asked him [in a judicial court], "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" And Jesus said, "I am ..." Mk 14:62
Jesus called God "Abba" ... "Daddee". It was not a common way to talk about God.

Jesus DID actually call Himself the Son of God in John 5:16-27. He also used the title Son of Man quite a bit, which is also a claim to divinity because it is a direct reference to Daniel 7:13-14:

"In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."

Jesus did call Himself the Son of God:

Luke 22:70:
Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?”
So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.”

Well, you know when he is baptized a voice from heaven says something along the lines of.

"This is my son, whom with I am pleased." So, I guess that helps one see why Christians beleive him to be the son of God. And the demons knew what he was and he would tell them not to reveal his idendity.(sp?)

Trinity : the doctrine held by most Christians that there are three divine Persons ( Father, Son, and Holy Ghost ) united in the one Supreme Divine Being

look into the story where Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist.

Matthew 3 : 1-17
16 and Jesus, when he as baptized, went up straightway out of the water : and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him :

17 and lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased
