A Communication from the Bishop of Rhode Island Concerning Ann Holmes Redding
To: Clergy, Members of Diocesan Council and Standing Committee
From: The Rt. Rev. Geralyn Wolf
Re: The Rev. Dr. Ann Holmes Redding
As many of you know, The Rev. Dr. Ann Holmes Redding is an Episcopal priest who has recently professed her faith in Islam. Dr. Redding is canonically resident in the Diocese of Rhode Island, though she has not served here for over twenty years.
After meeting with her I issued a Pastoral Direction giving her the opportunity to reflect on the doctrines of the Christian faith, her vocation as a priest, and what I see as the conflicts inherent in professing both Christianity and Islam. During the next year she is not to exercise any of the responsibilities and privileges of an Episcopal priest or deacon. Other aspects of the Pastoral Direction will remain private.
I am sending this e-mail to you because the continued web-site coverage suggests that I be as clear as possible with those exercising leadership in our diocese.

The wheels sometimes turn slowly, but they do turn. This Bishop is evidently the one with the authority to do this.
Maybe there is an opening in the mosque she attends.

I somehow doubt it. Islam treats women notoriously badly.

That makes me so happy right now.

Praise God!
I just gained a bit more respect for the TEC.

That makes me so happy right now.
And why does this make you so happy?

I admit I am surprised. I pray she takes the time to reflect and study. I pray that she finds truth and peace.

Perhaps she can become an Imamess and lead a new, peaceful Islamic jihad.

I'm ashamed that this was not part of my original response. Yes I am glad that she is no longer preaching the falsehood of Islam, but I should have also showed concern for her soul.

Perhaps time in the machine-gun-toting-Jew-hating-West-disparaging-women-demeaning world of Islam will make her get a distaste for the hajib. I have an Islamic friend who has told me that it is impossible these days to be around Muslims without someone talking jihad and politics or Islamism. Maybe this woman will experience that and decide that Anglicanism is far more peaceful for her soul.

Surprised? I'm not one bit.
A similar occurrence happens about a year or so ago when that priest was found to be a member of a Neo-Druidicial organization (I think it was OBOD, but ADF is also likely). The priest was given the choice, and decided that Christianity was right.
Like I told you Colabomb in our chat, all would be right. Would I let you down? :)

I'm surprised it happened so quickly, but not surprised it happened.

Never heard of that one- is the cleric fully reinstated?

I believe the priest was refrocked; would need to double check.

This is good news. I share in the prayer of those who are praying for Dr. Redding to find her peace with Christ.

:sigh: I'm just disappointed that she, as a leader of the church, could be so misguided. What example does that give to others?
