Today at church I had a talk with my pastor and we are starting a new thing. On the fourth Sunday of each month we are going to hold a meet and greet for visitors. In this time we are going to host a Question and Answer session and just in general give out information about the Methodist Church and our Church in General.

If you were visiting a new church and they hosted something like this what kind of information would you like to get? Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm a Methodist currently looking for a church home. I have children, so many of my questions have been about activities for them, especially during worship services.

Other things I consider (but don't always ask about)...
How traditional are the services?
How is music used? (because I'm funny about that kind of thing)
Is the church growing?
Does the congregation have a community feel to it?
How friendly are people? Are they genuine?
Are there a lot of families similar to mine?
What is Sunday School like? (for both my kids and I)
What kinds of Bible Studies are going on?
How does the Preacher interact with his congregation? What's his preaching style? How does he relate in smaller groups? One on one?
How does the Spirit move in the church?
Is this a place where my family and I can grow spiritually?

If I were not already a Methodist I would want to know how the UMC differs from other churches in terms of doctorine and practices.

Red gave some great feedback!

I also would want to know about upcoming activities such as groups, circles and bible studies-- including when they meet and how often.

And maybe a list given (or that I can take) of who's who in regards to committees and where the current need is.

A little bit about Methodist organization would be helpful too.

If I were looking for a new church, my primary concern would be: what is this church doing to seek and enlarge the kingdom of God here on this earth?

In other words, I would be interested in knowing, not how many members it has or what it's doctrinal list is, but how is this church impacting it's community for Jesus? Is it living out the teachings of Christ to be missional to the world? Or has it turned inside itself and become focused only on it's members? So I would ask how I could serve my community through my church instead of asking how my church could serve me.

1. John Wesley and the history of Methodism
2. The Articles of Religion and the Apostle's Creed
3. The organization of the church
In addition to all the other things brought up in the thread
