I haven't had time to check on things there this week, but if it's what I think it is, they are only going to find the "gone too far" point with the Brits that much sooner if they keep it up. It won't be long before that happens and it won't be pretty.

Porter, I was sent an e-mail showing pictures of Muslims in London (I'm comming to the conclusion it wasn't very recently) demonstrating with many placards. Many of them read, "death to all who insult Islam,' or " Europe, take warning! 911 was just a warmup!" and "England will be the first Islamic European nation," and also, "Islam will dominate the world." The photos showed twenty placards with these and similar messages. There were a number of Berber warrior headresses. These people were'nt kidding.

It's funny, not ha-ha, but sad really, that if Christians behaved similarly, there would be a tremendous brouhaha in the press. But the Islamics are allowed to do whatever they choose.

I must have insulted or somehow offended someone in the Conservative forums. My username and password don't work and I'm unable to get any effective help. Oh well, I'll just have to stick around here and annoy you folks.;)

Thank you, Tony Blair.
I asked about that yesterday, but it must have been much less of a deal than the media is making of it, because he knew nothing about it. There is no telling how old those pictures were, though.

Given the recent terror attempts in London and Glasgow, I can't believe that any such language would go over well in the UK, but in some ways, the more the outspoken radicals push their agenda, the sooner they'll be asked to leave. It's not real smart on their part seeing as how the Muslim population is less than 3% of the total.

I'm telling you, the Brits are only going to be so PC and with Grumpy Gordon in the PM seat now, the atmosphere is not as cordial for those who would undo the Christian west. Don't forget that we have a few military installations in England........so......we do have the back of the Brits and the radicals of Islam are kidding themselves. ;)

I went to church last night at my former church, the one my parents still go to. They tried a contemorary service for about 4 or 5 saturday nights. This is a church I didn't think they would even try a contemorary service. The pastor that was the pastor there for 35 yrs and is now retired was there last night and I went up and talked to him. He asked me who was preaching at the church I'm a member of now. I'm thinking like uh oh. I told him I didn't know, today is the fourth sunday I hadn't been at this church. Then the pastor that is the pastor there now came up to me right before the service started. He goes I need to talk to you. I said Uh Oh. LOL He said you been here 3 times now so we consider you a member now. My mom told him I'm not sure where I want to go, told him I went to this one church in the same county in another city not far from this one last sunday. He told me if I wanted to come there regular just let him know. After the service the old pastor came up to me and my mom and said that they need to have a talk with me about me not going to my church, I said I've been going to church, here, there and everywhere.

Oh my, that is rich Porter. I rather hope you're right. It would be a crying shame to see the country of Shakespere, Shelly, and Lewis, to go down to the unwashed and unsaved.

It rained all night last. Judging by what collected in the tarp covering the back of my truck, we might have gotten 1/8th of an inch. Things look like we might get an early winter here. Elsewise we'll get an Indian Summer and that would be murder. 100+ degree temps all the way past Christmas? Ugh!

A family moved out recently and left four shield-back chairs in their yard. Three of them are pretty badly broken up. I'm hoping to make at least one good chair out of the three and possibly two. Sadly, one of the two pierce-backs to these broken chairs may be unrepairable. I'll have to see when I get to it. I really hate it when someone gets fine furniture like this and destroys it. It's sickening, and makes me kinda angry.:( :sigh:

North of here about 50 miles where my brother lives they had somewhere between 11 & 17" of rain just yesterday! Roads were flooded, mudslides, and somebody drowned in a car that was stuck in the flood on the road right by their house. They can use some prayers there.

See you when I get back.

Yuck Bad BAD BADDDD storms just went through the Chicagoland area. Not fun. My house and a few streets all around it were ok, but the other side of town and the surrounding towns got it bad with strong winds uprooting trees and such.

Did I tell you guys my worst fear is tornadoes? Not sure why I deserve the protection I got today, but I'm very thankful.

If it's like this tomorrow night when we leave, I've already e-mailed the coordinator of the trip and told her that I'll have the girls who were supposed to drive with me just spend the night at my house and we'll leave Saturday morning when it's safer. The camp doesn't have a very good tornado shelter...I've seen it :(

Hey, we've had such a tough week that my husband is talking about the possibility of home schooling Anna. I have always been open to this, but he was quite reluctant. He is a 5th grade teacher in a public school and most of the teachers on staff think home schooling is for the birds. He also has family members who did homeschooling with their kids, but my husband's close relatives think they are religious zelots. So he's got a lot of pressure on him. That's why I was so shocked when he brought up home schooling.

Anyway, things have been really rough. Hubby goes back to school tomorrow. Anna goes back Friday. I'm praying that all goes well.

Thanks for all your prayers.

I always wanted to homeschool my daughter but my husband wasn't keen on the idea and my daughter wanted to be with her friends (only child).

If you have the support and feel you can do it, go for it!! You can get a lot done in less time than the kids at school have to spend at the classroom! I mean, the kids are there for a full day, but if you check with your state laws, you'll see that it's different for each state and you might need to only put in 4-5 hours of work and then she has the day to herself!!

Confess has homeschooled her children, so we have a pro here in case you need to ask her questions :)

Today was Gem's first day of first grade. She's all excited.. and nervous. She told me last night that she was afraid the kids wouldn't like her this year. So we talked about it.

"Did the kids like you last year, hun?"

"Yes. I had a lot of friends"

"Have you changed over the summer?"

"No... I'm still me"

"Then the kids will like you this year, too. You're sweet and kind, and funny and smart. You are a good friend. Isn't that what you like in a friend?"

"Yeah..."

And she seemed much more at ease about it.

We'll see how she is when she gets home this afternoon.

Personally, I'm VERY proud of her. She's reading at a solid third grade level, and her math is second grade. Our greatest worry is that they won't keep her busy and engaged.

Not all that well. She's had a rough week. She is suppossed to start a new medication, but the pharmacy had to contact the doctor about the amount (apparently they don't make a 2 mg pill anymore or something??) So we don't have the meds.

I sure hope things get better soon. It's been quite stressful for Chris and I.

Tiger started developmental (special ed) preschool Friday and regular preschool today. Two mornings and five afternoons a week. If he keeps progressing like he has the last few months, he'll catch up from his developmental delays and the chemo setbacks and will be ready for kindergarten next year.

My kids go to a similar preshool (6typical kids in a class and 6 special needs kids). It has been such a wonderful blessing! I'm sure Tiger will learn a lot. My four year old goes back to the preschool this afternoon (she's a typical). My special needs sweeties goes to Kindergaren on Friday.

Yes, she is doing well. :)

I got a couple of emails today that folks have tried to PM me, but my box was full. Thanks to those who have had concern as to how I am. There are many people here that I miss very much.

I did not give a formal good bye here a month ago when I left, so I'm doing that now. I am not pleased with the changes to CF (or whatever it's called now). I also get too caught up in things around here, and was spending too much time in the forum.

I continue to pray for many of you here. I learned so much during my time in TCL. I have also made lifelong friends that my Lord has so graciously blessed me with. I do not by any means consider my time here as a waste, it's just that it's time for me to move on. God has led me on to different things that He is teaching me and helping me to grow in.

A big thank you to all who helped me while I was here. My struggles with anxiety and depression, and also OCD and fibro, are known to most everyone here. Last year was a hard one, and I was surely blessed with the outpouring of Christian kindness during that time. I am now doing extremely well.

I will continue to pray for you, my friends. I ask that you pray for me as well when you think of me. This is good bye for now...but you never know...I may pop back in the future depending on where the Lord leads.

God bless,

You noticed the poor me, victim posturing as well, huh? That will not get him very far in life, I'm afraid, but he seems the type who will have to learn the hard way. I've seen this so many times in our own employees that we won't consider a young applicant any longer. It's simply not worth the frustration, drama and battles.

My stepson and his wife are the same age and there is simply no comparison in maturity level, respectfulness and responsibility.

Then we have the young girlfriends/fiancees/wives of guys who's whole identity seems to be wrapped up in their guy being with them and can't handle the separation. They whine "woe is me, my guy is away for two months, I can't live without him." Why can't he call me all the time, stuff like that. What will they do if the guy gets deployed? They better get use to it NOW or get out.

Those Raging teen hormones can give one a case of teen angst or manic depression. Fortunately for most, this ends in your late teens. I have about 2.35 years before my oldest hits the teens. I have decided that locking her in her room for 7 years might be good for me, but not necessarily for her.

Keep talking with her. Let her know what is appropriate and not appropriate. Ask here how she feels about the older guys staring at her. Set guidelines now for dating as in how old she can be, how old the guy should be, what she can do on a date, things like that.

You can always dress her in baggy clothes from her neck to her toes.

Pray and commend her to God, that He will protect her and that He will guide her to make wise decisions.

And the time that she decided she was going to buy a car and, looking through the paper, found one she liked and made the call. She was asking all sorts of very intelligent questions like "when was the oil last changed" and "how new are the tires?"

Then she comes to the end of the conversation and asked "have you had it since you got it?"

In the silence that followed the question, you could just hear the guy's brain going "WHAT???"

Ahh, my sister. A constant form of entertainment.

Maybe....just maybe...he was so clever that instead of walking to the nearest gas station, he called his parents to find out what was wrong with the car...but then was able to get a ride to the gas station once Dad came out :P

I have a cousin like that. He was a bank president for several years before he retired for health reasons. He's an absolute genious, but he's also the same one who would put both socks on the same foot and then look all over hell for the other sock!

Almost everyone said something like good to see you or put their hand on my shoulder when they passed by me after they took communion. Here's the church I've decided to go to if I decide to change. http://www.stpaulsdec.com/

We kid people (the ones that can take a joke) at our church, when they haven't been for awhile, like a couple weeks, and invite them to sign the guest book!

Of course our church is so small, we're more like a little family - and everyone knows we are kidding! Like my son, who always had to work on Sunday mornings, so on the rare occasion he could come to church Pastor would invite him to sign the guest book.

You're missing the point, Scott. The membership roster is not kept updated and is in no way correct.

My membership was announced to the congregation as is proper procedure, yet we were never added to the roll....it's only been 2 years. How long should it take?

How membership rolls are kept is basically up to the policy of the congregation. Individual members should be responsible for making sure their membership information is accurate and correct. This is something that I've battled here for a while, making sure that members addresses and phone numbers, etc. are accurate and up to date. I would suggest that you hound the elders until the matter is resolved.

My son had the opposite problem. For a bried period of time last Spring, he was listed as a member at 3 churches! When we moved, he had made it known he was not changing his membership, so we were surprised to find out last Spring he was still considered a member there after having been a member here for 8 years. He was also in the process of transferring his membership to where he now lives and was on theirs but not yet off of ours here. We think he is a member of one now, but we thought that before.

He wasn't meaning to pad the memberships.

I actually have offered to help many times in many ways, but it is never followed up on or taken advantage of. Don't want to step on someone's toes who's been handling that for all these years.

No matter what else, a church must also operate the business aspects along basic administrative guidelines and it so apparent that this is not the case here. Again, when there is no one trained or properly educated to oversee things, they go undone or mismanaged. :sigh: There is such disorganization that it makes me question how we are going to be able to function for much longer.

I think we touched on this a few months ago. Is there a certain amount paid to synod for the amount in the membership role? Seems to me DaRev mentioned that that wasn't the case. Or that the congregation receives some type of benefit because of inflated membership? Can't remember exactly what the response was. Can you clarify this DaRev or filosofer?

DaRev
12th September 2007, 12:52 PM
Synod receives support from the districts. A portion of the district support it receives from congregations goes to synod.
Congregations support of the district is usually based on communicant membership of the congregation (although our district does not do it that way any longer).

But there are other things that are affected by communicant membership totals, including some benefits available from synod and other agencies. Also the delegates for the synod convention is based upon total communicant membership in each circuit. It is always a good idea to have the membership rolls up to date.

The church I'm a member at was disorganized before the pastor left. They don't have much at all to get into, no commitees or womens groups. I've heard stuff out of people there I wish I hadn't, seen stuff I wish I hadn't. If anything goes on, I've always had to ask if I could help. No one ever come up to me and asked if I'd do something, only the Pastor and his mother in law, his wife did come up to me and asked me to take over the braille which surprised me, now they are gone. Also I've signed up for stuff and there's been a few times that I didn't get to help. The wall went up. It feels like you either fit in or you don't instead of everyone working for the glory of God. The church is still in the process of looking for a pastor still. I don't think any letters have been sent out. If they don't get a guest pastor, then the guy that went through that delto program, he's not the president now, someone else just got voted in, he'll give communion when there's no pastor. I just want to do so much for the Lord besides worship that I am still praying and waiting for an answer whether to stay or go somewhere else.
