Well, hubby just got called out on an emergency fixit job....that another company messed up earlier today. Poor hubby, always working....now I'm here by my lonesome, just me and the beagle.
I just found out tonight that my husband will be traveling out of state for a few days next week on business. You guys might get pretty sick of me hanging out here for company. :help: :)

Are you talking about me in front of my back? ^_^
Either that or behind your front. :D
reminds me of a conversation in Music Man between the Mayor and Tommy;
"Have you two been meeting behind my back?" demands the Mayor of his daughter, Zenita.
"Yeah, but we'd rather be meeting in front of your back," exclaims Tommy Cheelas, then looks confused about what he'd said.
"Wha-d-you-mean?" demands the Mayor.
"Uh..." begins Tommy, looking completely flummoxed.
"Never mind," exclaims the Mayor, also looking rather confused, "you just keep away from my daughter! Understand?"
One of the great moments in Hollywood.:D

Bye, everybody, see you next week. We're heading out on vacation tomorrow. Hubby's family is having a big family reunion this weekend & we're headed out a couple days early to help his folks get ready. Tiger's excited about going to Grandma's. It sounds like the farmhouse will be overflowing, so we're going to camp in the yard in a tent. 100 relatives, 2 bathrooms, and a forecast for 95 degrees. BIL's BBQ ribs, corn on the cob, and fireworks in the evening.
My character had to get shoes--they were out of toes, and no bare feet allowed outside at the farm. At least the armor shop still had some sneakers.

Very true. This has been true from the beginning. Still, the country was founded by, nominally at least, Christian people. The government was established on Christian principals. Regardless of what sophestry the anti-christian left may spew out, this country was indeed founded on CHRISTIAN PRINCIPALS! Ahem, sorry.:sorry: I get a little testy on this subject. Historical revisionism really annoys me no end. It's really popular right now.
Read George Washington's inagural address sometime. It is filled with the imagery of the divine will of God. Washington, at least, knew where this country should be addressing it's thanksgiving. Many of the speeches of the first hundred-fifty years' worth of Presidents are full of phrases like, "the devine will of the almighty God..." "...the guiding hand of the almighty..." "...that shining city on a hill..." etc. These people weren't athiests. Very few of them were counterfiet christians either.
I need to be careful as this looks a lot like a rant and I don't mean it to be. The USA has gone through periods of (christian) backsliding and revival before. Things look to me like we are due for yet another revival movement. The seeds of faith (and thus greatness) were sown in the very early years of this country's beginning. Still, we have gone through periods of godlessness similar to the current times. However, and this is what worries me, it has never so deeply entrenched itself in our government and society as it currently has. Pride is our greatest enemy and gives us an ugly face overseas.
May our gracious and kind Lord find the charity of, once again, pulling us out of the morass and trap of pride and conceit. May he be so gracious to send the spirit into the hearts of all Americans and bring them to the truth of his Word.
Okay, I'll shut up now.:sorry:

Probably because many were deists writing in a Christianized culture (often called Christendom - since the time of Constantine that was the prevailing cultural world view/viewpoint). Thus, deists could use Christianized phrases without being Christian, yet sound like Christians.

What filo said. The country wasn't founded by all Christians as much as neo-conservatives would like to rewrite history to show. For example, Jefferson was a Deist and he wrote the Declaration and had a part in the Constitution. However it was founded on more Christian principals than any other country in this world. It just won't ever be a Christian country because we are humans who fall short.

More likely it was founded on Christian principles, since schools were not yet founded and thus had no principals. ;)
It just won't ever be a Christian country because we are humans who fall short.
And the idea of a "Christian nation" comes out of Reformed theology, not Lutheran understanding of the two kingdoms.

When you say "God", you have said it all. Washington was a president, not a preacher. Just like today, you never hear "Jesus bless America." Boxers seem to be more likely than anyone in the public arena to address the Lord and King. I am not sure what the connection is between trying to beat the daylights out of someone and promoting Jesus. But there it is.

Actually, that does not say it all. Even Muslims agree with saying "God" or "Allah"; so do LDS, etc. The defining point is exactly on Matthew 16:15..."Who do you say that I am?"
Washington was a president, not a preacher.
That isn't the issue, though. While Washington set the tenor of what it meant to be President, he had far less influence on the "founding" of the nation than others, who were specifically deists. In other words, Christians could agree with the declaration of Independence and with the Constitution because those documents were set up for civil rule. But by doing so, it does not make nor imply that the nation was "Christian."

I agree with filo. This country was not founded on Christian principles. It was founded on the idea that Government should be representative of the people who inhabit the land. Washington was a deist as well as Madison and I believe Adams. Jefferson claimed to be a Christian, but he was a Higher critical sort who liked to pick and choose what was truth and what was not.
This country was founded on the notion that the state should not establish a particular religion or denomination of religion as a state religion. This way they could not force the people who didn't agree with the religion to convert. What inevitably this has become is a freedom of every religion but Christianity. We are branded as intolerant and made the scapegoats of all the hate crimes going on.

Please give an example of what you mean. The Constitution is not a divinely inspired document. It is from the minds of the age of Enlightenment which went from approximately the mid 18th century to the mid 19th century (I am being rather broad on the time frame.)
Many of our founding fathers were part of the Freemasons and Illuminati which were secret organizations and which IMO Christians should not be partly or Parcelly involved.

I say we make some lemonade out of the lemons we have been given and maybe add a little vodka or rum to make us feel all better and then do what we can to make this work for us as Conservative Lutherans.

I agree LilLamb. I remember for a while when the ELCA people were on here all the time. The LCMS/WELS people have kind of taken over the discussions on the Regular Lutheran Forum. I say if we band together we can come up with our own rules and keep the atmosphere of good solid Christian debate alive we can make it work.

A few of our ranks have already joined. A number of conservative folks from CF have joined the forum and there are a number of different denominational subforums as well. For our Confessional Lutheran family, we now have a new home. Go to this site http://conservative-christian-forums.com//YaBB.pl and register. Our forum is called "Concordia-Confessional Lutherans". A few of our ranks have already joined. A number of conservative folks from CF have joined the forum and there are a number of different denominational subforums as well. If this place becomes too much of a nut house (as it undoubtedly will) then at least we have a forum where we can fellowship and discuss with the fear of harassment.
Hope to see y'all there.
Checking it out now

I had a reply typed here and lost it. For some reason, with the changes, this site loads v-e-r-y s-l-o-w for me, or it may be a coincidence. I was away for the weekend and just this afternoon was able to get logged on without the site down type message. Looks like lots has happened.
DaRev, The girls are adorable. I am going to check that link out. If it is a site kink of like TCL, I might just like it. Fun, fellowship as well as good theological discussions.
Porter, I understood what you were saying about predators. The doors have been open and it is only time.
One of the statements of Erwin's that bother me is that if one says they are Christian than they are. It seems to be that there are organizations that say they are but they aren't.
I hope we can keep TCL the way we have been. I joined here for Christian fellowship and come to TCL when I want to get away from the world.
Guess I need to go find the announcement threads.

Wish it were that easy. I'm married, and my yard isn't mowed, nor is the garage cleaned out (as evidenced by my car in the driveway and not in said garage and little clover blossoms popping up all over).

Guys, just because you are absolutely right in your concerns, doesn't mean you have to get on a high horse about it. This board and especially TCL is what the regulars (that would be you) make of it. I've found in my career that sitting around and complaining doesn't solve the problems, and after awhile, doesn't make me feel any better either. I'm sure something similar applies here.
Oh no - some unsavory element might come in... I'm so scared!!!! Jeez Louise - how old are you? How strong is your faith? Really? Some of you are old enough to be my parents, and a couple of you, I kind look up to you with that kind of respect, and right now if you were my parents, I would be embarassed. People I look up to, stand up for and constantly defend their beliefs, and don't let potential "bad" people they may come across get them down. Now, who am I supposed to look up to now?
But, hey, if you don't want to look at this as the challenge and opportunity that it can present itself, go ahead and continue being a bunch of cackling hens. I certainly won't stop you. I'm only a "General" in jokes.

Are you sure you aren't just paranoid? I don't know if you have been following my prayer requests, but I have way too much going on in my life right now to have an agenda here. I think the paranoia and the passionate overreacting is getting the best of some folks. Perhaps the site should shut down for a couple more days to allow everyone a chance to get their heads set firmly back on their shoulders. We've all been so worried about "troublemakers" coming in here from outside, but all that I've seen here lately is in-fighting. It's beginning to get to be a little much.

For me to compare someone to my parents or as a parent figure, even in age, is a sign of respect for their wisdom that only comes with age. Maybe that's why I want to adopt from China. There is a lot in Asian culture we can learn from, like equating age with wisdom.

As to the changes, it's pretty chaotic right now, but it will settle. Having people who claim to be married or Christian on CF will be no different from those I know IRL who claim to be married or Christian, but aren't, by my definition. *shrugs* It's what they say and how they say it that matters in discussions, not what they claim.
They can claim to be purple princesses from Pluto, and even have spiffy bling-bling icons to denote it. Doesn't mean a thing if they don't act or talk like purple princesses from Pluto.
It's actually more like RL every day. I meet all sorts of people who claim to be nice, or good workers, or whatever... and by their interaction or work product they obviously aren't. I don't get mad about it. Why should I?
Not my yob, man. Not my yob.

Actually, this is not a new issue at all. Anyone could have at any time registered here and said whatever they wanted to. They could have claimed to be Christian when they aren't, claimed to be married when they aren't, claimed to be anything when they aren't. There never really was a way to police or legislate any of that.

Hi, everyone, I'm back. Now to recuperate from my "vacation". We went to my in-laws for a few days for a family reunion. Hubby's brothers arrived late Thursday night. One spent all day Friday with his smokers and grill in the back yard (from breakfast to supper) cooking ribs for Saturday. Ribs for dinner, more ribs for supper. This is farm country--dinner is at noon. They were messy, but oh, were they good. Tiger got to spend the weekend with his cousins and their girlfriends. We met our nephew's fiancee. Hubby's other brother spent Friday working on some family history, and he managed to find some relatives no one had ever met before. He & my FIL invited them, so they came. Fireworks when it got dark. We were blessed with good weather--very warm, but at least there was a breeze, and even the little biting bugs weren't too bad. Then Tiger had a doctor's appointment on Monday--all was well. When we got home, we hadn't been home an hour when we got a call from a social worker begging us to take two little boys for overnight until the other foster family could take them. They were cute kids, but a little wild. Tiger had fun, but they were a little rowdy for his taste. Now they're gone and the house is sooo peaceful.
Tomorrow it's back to work so I can rest up.:D

True, but at least with the criteria and acceptance of understanding in place at registration there was a sense of trust. Now anyone new coming in will be suspect as we are all aware that they did not have to agree with the Biblical basics of Christianity.
I believe new posters will have a longer road to travel toward being accepted as genuine among established Christian posters here. There are vulnerabilities for everyone in place now that weren't there before and it breeds distrust.

But even before it was all voluntary. There was no exam or litmus test in place to see if everyone who claimed to hold to the Nicene Creed actually did when they joined. Only those who blatantly posted against it were found out to be dishonest with their registration. The only difference now is that each denomination's forum will be responisble to police it's own space.

I do feel bad for any new members who will be honest with their answers or such when they register. Because any new member will be suspect, will we find ourselves being overly critical of what they write? Then they will wonder what kind of place they found themselves in.
It does seem we will be able to keep our rules here and things will probably be pretty much the same, other than new members will be suspect.
Kind of like when we fly, we are all assumed to be terrorists until we prove otherwise. New members will probably be looked upon as nonbelievers or nonLutheran until they can prove otherwise.
Maybe in time, we will be able to relax and put our guard down.
Just a few of my thoughts here.

OK, so now for a joke I made up, lesseee if it flies on the "New CF" rules...
This RC and Lutheran are scheduled for a formal debate on the merits, or lack of, the medieval RCC
So the RC guy goes first and gives a long spiel but running out of time asks the Lutheran to allow him a little longer, which the Lutheran gracioulsy does. The RC guy runs all over the time limit and leaves only a few minutes for the Lutheran to respond. Apologizing for this the RC guy turns the floor over to the Lutheran, who has been patiently sipping from a glass of water.
So the Lutheran gets up and slowly walks over to the RC podium with the water pitcher in hand. He kindly says "My dear brother.." and hurls the cold water at the RC. Before the RC guy can say a word, the lutheran hands the RC a dollar bill and adds: "...will you indulge me?" and walks off stage.
Have I causht something of the essence of Luther here?

I love oolong. When I lost the first 30 pounds (which has come back, I'll admit) I treated myself to a Yixing teapot (http://www.natashascafe.com/html/tpots/p2019.html). It's small, only five inches tall, about enough for two Chinese tea cups, or one of mine. You put in the leaves, brew the tea, and then pour out immediately. You can re-brew oolong a number of times, with each brewing havinga different... character.
I do the same with green teas (my favorite is Genmai cha, which has roasted brown rice in it for a nice nutty scent), but I don't have a yixing pot for greens yet. One should have a pot for each type of tea, because the clay is porous and takes on the taste of the tea you use most.
So ultimately, I want three yixing pots. One for oolong, one for whites and greens, and one for black. And I'll continue to use my gaiwan (http://www.teacuppa.com/Classic-White-Gaiwan.asp)for delicate whites and greens when I'm the only drinker.
Most of the time, though, I just make a regular pot. *grins*
Oh, and my newest tea purchase is a loose-leaf iced tea pitcher (http://www.englishteastore.com/boceicteajug.html)! I love it so far. It's amazing to be able to so easily make iced rose tea (I get this amazing Russian tea with rose petals from a local hole-in-the-wall Russian grocery)

Well, just thought I would let you all know that I am going to be scarce the next month or so. Daughter returns Monday evening from studying the last 6 months in Germany. First thing on the agenda is car shopping. Then we have a mini family reunion. Her cousin is one of our missionaries in Taiwan and our church supports her. Her family will be here for the weekend and she will make a presentation.
Son will return from his summer job by the first weekend of August. Off to Nebraska to take daughter to her cousin's and son and I will head on west to see Grandma. Daughter will return home with her boyfriend who thinks he ought to get to know us. Then she will be off to college and then son off to Army Basic training.
Then quiet again. Well sort of. The school year will then start and we know that means the fall routine for Pastor's.
So, if I don't post much, that is why. I will be checking in, but feel it will be good to spend time with the kids during the short time they will be around.

We just got back from seeing the new Harry Potter film. VERY different from the book, although you get the same ending. It's just weird the way the director/writers/etc... decided to make so many changes. I know the condensing was needed, but an important aspect that was in the book was cut out...and needed to be in there for the last film (although the writers probably weren't aware of it because the last book just came out this past weekend).

I can't say since not everyone wants to know what happens in book 7 :(
Have you read the last book yet? I got it Saturday and finished it Sunday morning.

i was finished by 3:30 on saturday afternoon...other than the character i mentioned, there are a couple who could have been in it (and weren't) that will be fairly important in 7, but they have been introduced before...

Weather 80s and humid, feels like 90
What am I doing? MIL and I finished stripping wallpaper in my kitchen, FIL was sanding & mudding drywall in the living room, hubby was working on something in the basement and trying to find our missing cat. She got out of the room the cats were in. Tiger's job was to look for stray nails in the carpet. He loves using that magnet-on-a-stick tool. Then I got to leave and go to work so I can rest up for tomorrow.

 Nah, sorry, no prizes. Dinkime asked what was everyone doing today and I answered. But you're right, home renovations with the in-laws helping. Helping a LOT. Never underestimate the snowball effect.;)
Rev, if I knew how to post pictures, I could send you a Lutheran beverage and some popcorn.:D

What I'm doing today is being lonely. My hubby has been working out of state since monday. He called tonight to say he got heat stroke yesterday...but worked again all day in the heat. Now he's really sick.
He was on his way home, but had to turn around and go back to fix something that went wrong at one of the job sites. He should get home tomorrow.
I'm feeling rather crappy, and concerned for hubby who never knows when enough is enough, when it comes to work and his health. :(

:( Aw, seajoy! My husband was a workaholic at one point until his dad died and he saw how much his dad missed out on a lot of things in life.

I don't think my hubby will ever learn that lesson until it's too late. He is a workaholic to the letter.

I finally heard from hubby. He stopped at a hotel at 12:30am. He slept in, and is now 4hrs from home. He still feels sick, but not so bad.
Thanks again for your prayers everyone. :) Thanks to God that he is feeling better. :prayer:

Well, he made it to the shop (I was on the road when he called me). And guess what? Big shock...he's going to work the rest of the day.
