over the years i have struggled with sin and adulterous thoughts. and i have believed myself to have ocd for a long time but havent talked to a doctor. i used to count steps in certain numbers like 3's or do things in 3's. and used to have those thoughts and do things that were bad. and i have really tried to stop and i really want to obey the lord god. I was reading an article on mental disorders about ocd and it said that people suffering from ocd tend to have thoughts that go against their religion. My question is, are people with ocd saved?

Sinful thoughts?

Jesus saves all who believe in him

I couldn't name you one saved person who doesn't have sinful thoughts. OCD has nothing to do with it. I would speculate that people with OCD would do things against their religion because they don't fully agree with their religion. I personally don't agree a lot with American Christianity. So I definitely do things differently than a lot of Christians -- even friends I know. Many people would say what I do is against my religion. But that's because they don't [and often won't] understand what that is.

So I would ask you: Write down some things that you do which are "against your religion". Then try to identify why you do them.

I haven't had ocd, but I used to dwell on things a lot (is that similar?). I used to really dwell on bad things too, then when I became a christian, those things really bothered me, and I wanted better use of my thought life. The biggest thing I did was get some Bible on tapes and then started listening to them all the time, on the radio in the shower, on walkmen tapes a lot while doing chores and taking my son places and etc. Listening to Bible and then also watching Bible on dvds (there are some out there, like from www.visionvideo.com) has really changed me so much with God's help and prayers and then being a doer of His words. I highly recommend listening to Bible, you can get different versions even, dramatized one is better, in my opinion, then straight reading (gets monotonous). you can also listen online for free at www.biblegateway.com, they have different versions, find a link about "listening to Bible". I like the New American standard version on there, the NIV cuts off after every chapter. I hope things get better for you, God bless

You don't have to worry about pleasing God, he's pleased already. There IS no condemnation for you.

Hey buddy. I have OCD, I havn't talked to a Dr. either but I know, and I love Jesus with all my heart. The only way I can see this possibly affecting your walk with the Lord is if it starts to get in the way of your relationship with Him. You'll be in my prayers.

Sweetheart I can be in the middle of praying in church and bam a bad thought comes up or Im driving along and bam a bad thought pops in.......like those above Our thought life is in constant battle with the devil....that is why we have to be consistent and persistent in holding all thoughts captive to God! WE have to be in a state of diligence with our thought life............dont borrow trouble honey....this number thing maybe a system to keep it all together..........if your cup is running over and you can no longer function with minimal daily tasks then that is when you go to the doc.....please dont put it off because someone has told you different.

Hey, Young Brother...

First, I think everyone is a little OCD at some point in their life.. we all have our little idiosyncracies, our quirks.. unless it is something that truly is disruptive in your life, don't be quick to label it just yet.

Second - and most importantly - most certainly people with OCD are saved... this has nothing to do with your faith in the finished work of Christ.. let's please make certain you understand that..

And lastly, you speak of adulterous thoughts, and of things that go against your religious beliefs... I am wondering if perhaps we are talking about lust and actions that go with that..???

If so, send me a PM or an e-mail and let's talk about this some more.. discussions on topics which probably are best not in a public forum, ok ??

If you decide to do that, I want you to go to my CF profile and read the 2 rules I have there.. and if you feel uncomfortable and decide not to, that's OK to..

Be At Peace, my young friend

1 stop sinning.

2 You can control evil thoughts. When you feel them coming on. Repeat in your mind love, love, love all is well, all is well, all is well.

When the demon trys to tempt you say something like get behind me you low life dust eating snake. In the name of Jesus get.

It will be a battle but you can get control.

To totally win the battle you will need to be come a very self disciplined disciple.

No no no no no!

This has nothing to do with discipline. It has to do with abiding in Christ. Realize that not every thought in your head is your own. It's not YOU deciding to think vile things. YOU have the mind of Christ. You only want to think good things. When some vile thought enters your head, treat it like what it is - a foreign thought. Fighting it with discipline is like trying as hard as you can NOT to think of an elephant.

CHRIST wins the victory, not you :)
