Hello to all!
I was wondering if anyone had picked up the new book "Jesus of Nazareth" written by the Holy Father Benedict XVI. I purchased it the other day and am not yet finished reading it yet, but I am here to tell you it is certainly worh it!
It is a survery of the life of Christ from his baptism to the transfiguration and subsuequent reflections on these events. The Pope carefully and quite skillfully relies on his solid expertise as a world renown theologian to rescue the image of Jesus from the sloppy scholarship of modern times.
Powerfully, he captures the heart of the Christian message and reminds the faithful exactly what draws us to the Mystery of Christ, for example, writing of Jesus' temptation that:
"It is a descent into the perils besetting mankind, for there is no other way to lift up a fallen humanity. Jesus has to enter the drama of human existence, for that belongs to the core of his mission; he has to penetrate it deeply, down to its uttermost depths, in order to find the "lost sheep", to bear it on his shoulders, and bring it home" (26)I highly recommend this read!
In the peace of Christ,
