During long walks and runs, and also in the shower. Times when I am not around others and can focus, really focus, and listen with my heart. Then I try to open myself and set all the pride aside, and let him take over more fully.

Last week I felt it hard to connect with God, I felt depressed and miserable.
It felt like satan was attacking me.
I felt better when I got on my knees and prayed to Him.
Then I had an awesome couple of days with Him after.

prayer. I've had some good cry/prayer sessions (unintentionally) when things have been pretty dry God wise.

When i feel disconnected from God, I usually go for a walk and just try to chat with him. I tell him how im feeling, why i feel disconnected and well, basicly i open my heart to him and try to stop being so difficult and self centred.

God bless

John

I chat with Him , as well . :)

I was baptized at the age of 9 and have not looked back ever since. That is when I last connected with God. God is with us all the time, he will not leave us. I am never too busy with conversations to forget God is here.
It might be that I grieve the Holy Spirit when I get angry, but that is a brief absence and I am shocked back into being humble as soon as I see what I am doing.

How do you re-connect with God? Do you pray? If so, what do you say? Do you read a particular scripture passage? Again, which ones?

How do you re-connect with God, when you need too?

God bless

JohnYou can't "re-connect" or "dis-connect" with the Lord. You are in Christ and He is in you.

Thankfully, the Lord has brought me to a place where I realize that we are never disconnected from Him. Whenever I feel "disconnected" from Him, I humble myself and pray and the first thing He says to me is, "I never left you." So, it's not really a matter of establishing a re-connection with Him...it's just learning and accepting the fact that He is with us through good and bad (and He wants to hear about it) and establishing a constant dialogue with Him so that these feelings of disconnection don't happen. 1 Th. 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

Quiet times , morning and evening (open and close your day ) reflect upon : 2 chronicles 7.14 .... 1 John 1.8-9 ... Romans 10.8-9
James 4.1-7 ... repent , ask for help , listen , and then go and do ....

and when you fall , repeat , Prov. 24.16 , get back up , dust yourself off , and start again

I pray to God when I get up in the mornings, I will read my Bible so through out the day, I pray to him before I go into the building that I work in and I talk to him everyday.

When I feel disconnected Christian music will bring me back, so will reading the Psalms. Both appeal to my emotions. I agree that we aren't really disconnected, even when we feel that way.

Sometimes I think the best time is to be in the dark like maybe in your bed and just pray,Express your feeling. You can write it out, sing it,type how you feel anything to do with expressing yourself. Talk like your talking to a regualar person, What I do is I lay there and fill my ears with christian music and listen to the ones that are really strong [ not saying all of them arent but the ones that can kind of help your expirience with reconnecting or drifting and reconnecting.] and normally it makes me wanna just get on my knees and pray or read my bible. If you like a rock type music or you may not even be into that. My suggestion of music is flyleaf the story about their music is what they have done and how they have fet and what happened when they gave their hearts to good. I hope you can find something to express yourself!!
God Bless ♥

When we are children of God because of being born again.

Now through Jesus we need to feed ourselves by
listening to Him, and talking to Him.

I think it's not wise to pick up always the same verses
in the Bible.
God can talk to our hearts and situation trough so many passages and stories of his Word.
Lets try not to put Him (and ourselves) in a box.

Just think. He can connect in a special way with us while:

We read the Bible.

Speak to us directly in our hearts.

He can use things we read... just "by chance"! ;-)

A friend says some right words when we would never
expect them.

We could just turn on the television to a christian
channel that usually it's not that good...and there...
someone is talking to our hearts...

And so on and so forth...

As a Psalm 3:6 goes...

In all your ways acknowledge Him
and He will make your path straight.

I try doing something different, like reading a different translation of the Bible or listening to a different preacher or taking a new bible class or something to renew myself. Stepping it up in prayer is easier said than done.

One of the biggerst problems I have with praying is that I get distracted so easily, but I found that making Him part of distractions help. He already knows what in our hearts so why not talk to Him about what's on our minds? Even if it's about what your watching on TV or the funny looking car that just passed you, or what your eating at the moment.

Any conversation with God is a good converstaion... any good conversation with Him is a good prayer... :)

Thank you guys. I love how we all seem to think the same way but have so many differant ways to express it. One of my favourite things to do is listen to some music. My favourite is called "celtic source". On disc two, theres a song called "peace to you", which is wonderful and gives me such a great feeling of peace.

Please continue to tell me your thoughts on this subject. Your thoughts are wonderful to read. Thanks again.

I agree! Good Christian music is a wonderful to be near to God!

Many good things have been said here. Much good advice has been given. I also believe that unless we have absolutely rejected Him He is always there with us. We may 'feel' disconnected as another said, but that is likely another He is trying us. It is a small trial really to have to love Him and serve Him when He doesn't seem to be there. Just always remember that He always is!

So glad you posted your question and there's been good advice so far. Our relationship with the Lord can be what we want it to be.

Notice what comes first in James 4:8. When we feel disconnected -distant (whatever word we can all agree on), when we press toward our heavenly Father, in spite of our feelings/flesh, He will draw near to you. (Jam 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded."

Also, there is both praying continuing throughout your waking hours and spending uninterrupted time in prayer and worship (focusing on the Lord only) with listening.

It's awesome!

Uninterrupted prayer and worship time - "Mat 26:36-39 such as Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder."
