Wow!

Alright, so I'm at my Granny and Papal's house some over the summer. My Dad lives next door. They live out from town a little ways, and there is this long gravel road that goes past their house that people frequently ride four-wheelers on and makes paths through the woods. There is also a rock query that is fun to ride in. I was taking Sasse (imagine a toy poodle on a four-wheeler :P) with me and we turned into a trial that went through some wood and brush a short ways down the the rock query. I decided it was too steep down and turned around. One thing lead to another, and I was rolling downhill - fast! The brake wouldn't stop and giving gas hardly helped at all.

So I put my feet on the ground to try and stop it. Sasse jumped off and looked at me like "Bubby! Where are you going?" My legs were against the wheels that were moving at a pretty good speed. Thank the Lord, I somehow managed to steer a sharp curve backwards into a lot of brush; not too much further and it's a near total drop down about 20-25 feet.

Sasse was fine, thank God. I came out with many nasty looking cuts and scrapes. The tire, when I was trying to stop with my legs, rubbed hard against my left leg particularly, and quite a bit of skin is gone. But I am so glad I, and especially Sasse, are OK. Thank God.

Quit the scary experience! :sorry:

God's clarity, peace, serenity,
In Christ,
Love and Safety,
Justin

No helmet...

It's scary to think that a few more feet backwards and... a long way down.

The painful tire-burn-scrape-thing is really sore. I hope it isn't infected. It's oozing very slowly this light yellow/clear stuff. It's either puss or a natural healing thing. I'll give it a few more days. Hopefully it scabs over today.

Sorry to lecture you, but here goes...

I'm a bike racer, as seen in the Tour de France... it's dangerous. Twice now I could have died in crashes. One time, I was not wearing a helmet. Thankfully, when I was flung from my bike, I landed on my shoulder and rolled into some grass. I was going about 20mph. The other time, I was wearing a helmet. Somebody in a car on a cell phone blew a stop sign and I had to sprint out of the way of the car. I think my front wheel got caught in a sewer grate or something and I was thrown from my bike head-first into a tree. I was knocked out, but when I woke up, I was glad I had my helmet on - although it had a nice big crack in it. Kind of funny in retrospect, but only because I'm not dead.

Get a helmet. If you're not convinced yet, I can give you plenty of other stories which aren't quite so nice.

Thank God you didn't get seriously hurt. :crosseo:

Definitely get a helmet. None of us are invincible, though many times we are tempted to believe so.
