Cygne, do you happen to know how to take a clip from the rose bush and successfully plant it in another location?

I used to do this. First of all, take them from the trimmings in January. Stick them in a gallon-sized pot with at least one of the "joints" under the potting soil, and place them in a sheltered area (since this will be winter time). Be sure to have them where you are reminded of watering them each day. I have even started them in the house. Don't let them bud for a full year, or that will kill them! Pick the buds off as soon as they form. Learned this the hard way.
I had about 10 started this year, but we went on vacation, and son forgot to water them. I lost all but one, and now that last one isn't doing well. So if you can, stick the pots outside where the sprinkler system will get them every day (if you have one).
Next year I will do that. ;)
It takes about two years before you can get a decent sized rose bush out of it, and I say at about two years they should be good for placing out in the yard and letting them bloom. Probably a good root starter (vitamin B) when planted out will help.

Okay :) I will share it here for everyone here:
Dolmades:
About 30 grape leaves. chose the mid sized ones. They have to be tender enough so when you boil them (about 5-8 minutes) they are tender. The bigger ones are too hard and not apppropriate for wraping the dolmades.
To make the stuffing: brown about half a pound of humburg
-one small onion chopped
-some dill
-use plenty of olive oil
-salt and pepper(I use about 1/2 tsp)
After you brown all the above and the water content is low in your pan through in some 1/2 cup of rice and some water to boil but do not drawn it in water!
Boil it for about 15 minutes and let the water to be absorbed totally so you have a almost dry mixture.
Put it aside and let it cool off.
meanwhile take your boiled (about 5-8 minutes) leaves and cool them off too under cold water.
this is the way to stuff them (or just google it)
http://www.akiskitchen.ca/recipes_appetizers/dolmathes/roll_3.jpg
I usually stuff them and then fold them and then roll them... if that made sense...(!)lol....
after they are rolled pile them up in a deep pan. On the bottom make sure to line it with the grape vine sprouts that you can cut from your vine. Putting them in the bottom it will help the stuffed grape leaves not to burn during cooking.
after you stock them up in a pyramid shape in the pot, cover them with a heavy porcelain dish that will keep them wraped up, and add some water and olive oil bellow the half way up to the rim of your pot. or read also this recipe
I do not like this one too much because I do not agree about the lemon been added and the parsley. No one that I know put either one of those in dolmades.
Boil them covered in medium heat for about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes they should be done since the rice is half cooked. if the water goes too way down add some you got to watch them to see tha tthey do not burn :) I also use parboiled rice because it works faster.
happy cooking (you lucky one to have fresh grape leaves )!!!
you also have to make the egg lemon sauce that goes with it but this is an easy one to make .... I hope you know how to make it. right?
If not just take away some of the juice of your alread made domathes put is in a bowl. Beat an egg in a bowl. and SLOWLY start dripping the juice or a squized lemon in it while beating it.... when you are done slowly mix it with the grape leave juice.... and voila you got your sauce.

Philothei,
Can you drop me an email telling me if I can fill the grape leaves with rice and meat and if they can be frozen or not? You have seen how many leaves I have on my grape vine, I could make myself a small ton of them if they are able to be frozen.

Lol.... glad you have this energy :D bout!! I am still sleepy since I had to get up so early and go to my daughter's school to have breakfast there and see her schoolwork. me and my hubby were kind of tired from the night before installing software for my ML. Her comp is old... and it took for ever. I am working all almost all week so I will pop in occasionally.
Have fun cooking and painting Michael :) Glad you are back "spinning" to your old routine with iconography.
