Hello all,
I am wondering your take on the Local Church of Watchman Nee. I enjoy much of his writings on the Lord's recovery of His Kingdom and really enjoy the Recovery version of the Bible. Do you think that the Local Church is part of the RM? I look forward to your comments.

One of the characteristics of the RM is that they are seeking to unify the Church whereas the Local Church divides. The Local Church claims that only their churchs are exclusively following Christ and therefore are saved.

I'm afraid I am not familiar with what you are talking about. Annie

I've heard that the Local Churches of Watchman Nee are similar in many ways to the so-called "Plymouth Brethren" assemblies. I'm not sure if they share the same eschatological emphasis or not.

I don't know enough about The Local Church to comment with any authority, but I have heard (i.e. second- or third-hand info) that there is a tendency towards elitism (i.e. "we are the best, most scriptural church, all other churches are lacking") - this even to the extent that some Local Churches have been known to seek legal action against other churches or denominations that have expressed criticism towards them. Again, not sure of any details, this is only what I've heard.
Part of the problem is that the Local Church seeks to establish a single church in each town or locality - such as in, "the Church at Ephesus", "the Church at Rome", or "the Church at Brisbane, Australia". This is a scriptural ideal and should be respected as a point of view, but I think there are too many problems when trying to implement this ideal in the 21st century church - there is simply too much division, tradition and history in the Church to make it work.

There is absolutely NO connection or shared history between the Restoration Movement and the Local Church movement.
I have some theological issues with the Recovery Bible and the teachings of Lee and Nee. I would be happy to talk to you about this privately.
