I have been non denominational for 28 years. Now I ama ttending orthodox church (american kind).
The Father (I keep forgetting and calling him pastor) says I am a seeker.
But what do I call myself?
A protestant who is attending orthodox church? A seeker? I think I am not an official catchumen yet (when do I qualify?).
Yet I am not considered Orthodox.

No, seeker is out. I am not seeking. I found Jesus long ago.
Inquirer? Only into the church.

If you plan to become Orthodox, you're hardly a Protestant anymore, are you? You aren't fully Orthodox yet, either (don't be offended, because neither am I yet!), but if God were to decide to take you tomorrow, He'd know you didn't reject His Church.

The term I've seen used is generally "inquirer".

It usually goes Visitor -> Inquirer (which is basically a commitment on the part of the believer) -> Catechumen (the believer and the Church recognize each other - this is entered into by a very short service) -> illumination and chrismation (you're a Christian! Glory to God!) -> just one of the Faithful.

I like the term padawan but inquirer would probably be more widely recognized. ;)

Why do you want a label? You are a pilgrim like all of us...
You are on your journey to salvation.
I would consider you a catechumen... even so you are not "officially" one.
God bless,
Philothei

actually, it's about time a cool word such as padawan be put to good use in the real world. All in favour....

That's what I generally tell people if they ask. Sounds like a good enough title. ^_^

Sorry if you missunderstood my post. I was refering to all of us... of course we are all Christians. Did not mean it that way. I was making another point but never mind now. Yes future Orthodox Christian sounds good enought to me :)
God bless,
