Do street squirrels count? There's four of them that come to my window and into my apartment to get peanuts. They recognize me when I walk by the window and they are in the yard, or when I leave the building--they look at me as if to say "What are you doing out there?" And the recognize my voice, so I can call to them. And yet, every morning it's like the forgot how to actually get the peanuts. They remember where to go and that's it!
Had a collie--she would let my parents "play fight"--would bite my dad's arm hard enough he said to let him know that there was more where that was coming from!
She also liked little kids and would run away from home to be with them. Not to play, just to be there. The littlest kids could sit on her. So, when the neighbor who was a bow and arrow hunter (very strong!) came out of his house to spank his kid for not coming in when called (3 times!), he looked up and there was my dog teeth-bared and growling! He was enough of a hunter to know that you don't get between a mother and her cubs--even if they are the wrong species!
20 years later we had two German shepherds--no play fighting with mom then either!

Oh boy... I love animals!
We live on a small make no money, cost too much, wish I could be self-sufficient, homestead type farm. ^_^
Some of our pets are more like family and others are just livestock.
7 Horses, one foal on the way. (We'll be down to 3-4 by fall.)
21 goats with a few kids on the way, (down to about 7 or so by fall).
3 chickens with half a dozen more hens and 1 rooster arriving this weekend.
5 Australian Shepherds (2 adults resuced - I am rehoming so they are just here in transition for some lovin' and training) 8 Aussie pups going to new homes this weekend. (Down to 3 adults by fall).
And one 200 lb Anatolian Shepherd Guardian dog.
No cats anymore though. They kept eating my chicks rather than the mice and would occasionally leave me a half consumed snake on the porch.
Occasionaly a pig or cow wonders through our place, but they end out residing in the freezer

Chinchillas are soooooooo cute. Softest things I ever felt, a friend of mine had 2. Boy are they funny to watch play.
Do yours bounce around when they play almost like little furry rubberballs? My friends looked like they were bouncing themselves off the inside of their big cage. It was hilarious.

Can I send some of you the ground squirrels that are eating my alfalfa field? If I could catch them I'd surely send them to anyone wishing for a squirrel type pet ;)

Other than her, I've got a dog who was around when people were still hunting Dinosuars and an anti-social cat who doesn' care either way.

We have a golden retriever, Ella. We also have four cats that love to harass her, Nimbus, Tru, Bette, and Oscar. : ) I'm fostering a few rats right now, and I have a feeling they'll be staying. My husband had over 20 pet rats while he was growing up, and he is very attatched to the fosters right now.

Well, they can be. Cats, unfortunately, as the saying goes, don't have owners, they have assistants! :D
That being said, we have 2 cats:
Smokey - aka 'Mouse' (a thorn in my side!)
Bandit - aka 'Peanut' (my fav)
Smokey howls whenever we give her a bath but Bandit likes the water.
Cats are SO strange!!

Do 4 street squirrels count? They're at the window when I get up and they want their peanuts! None of the cheap dog food either! I was told that squirrels liked dog food so I went and bought some. No go. They wnat the $1.60 a pound nuts or the $3/lb grapes, not the 95 cents a pound dog food--rats, thought I was going to get by cheap!

Two black cats--brothers. Their coats are so shiny, you could almost see yourself in them! They are 8 years old. Pepper is the Alpha, and he weighs about 18 lbs. Puddin' (Puddy) is about 10 lbs, and is more timid, but oh, what a baby face! He has one white whisker!
Nice cats! Good boys!
