View Full Version : Is there a restoration prayer?

I have been in sin against the Lord from a number of different things today. I feel like I have been asking for forgiveness too much because it seems like every time I ask for forgiveness once, I sin again. I realize it means nothing to say the words and keep acting out, but it's a constant struggle to do what is right. Part of it has to do with the same old places I surround myself with. (Places on the internet, mostly) I tell myself that I go to this place to try to spread the word of God, but I find myself behaving in the same manners they do sometimes. I don't want to be a hypocrite in God's eyes, but I also want to break myself away from this place if it's somewhere He doesn't want me to be.
Getting back to the subject, I heard that there was a restoration prayer in the Bible. I would like to know this. I feel like I betrayed Him today. I'm not catholic so I don't want to confess here. He knows what I did. I would like make ammends. That is all.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
"If he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him" (Luke 17:3-4).
"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise" (Psalms 51:1-17).
"Forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil" (Luke 11:4).
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:34-36).

When I keep returning to the same sin, it is because it is attached to me sinning in a way I am not aware of. For example, I may be right to be angry in a situation, but if I can't let it go, it could be linked to pride and not righteous indignation.
I find that it is possible to be blind to yourself in rather surprising ways. Immediate prayer when confronted with temptation, a desire to learn in the spirit and through His word and even fasting can help. Sometimes you have to let God peel you like an onion to get at the matter. Then I find it is possible to repent and and not remained trapped.

Repent of your sins, pray for forgivness but most of all believe that Jesus died for your sins. Give glory to the sacrafice he made for us by trusting in it!

A “restoration prayer”? No, we don’t have any repetitive prayers that we repeat over and over again to get some sort of effect. Even the Lords prayer as some repeat over and over again was an example of how to pray, but not what we should say over and over beyond memorizing it as an example of how to pray.
Such as it says, “thy kingdom come, thy will be done”, it is that we pray His will in our lives. When we pray He already knows what we need, for by the Spirit we pray, our prayers should be orchestrated by the Spirit, by His will and not our own. So when we pray, it is the working of the Holy Spirit by which we pray, the intent of words that are said is by His instruction if fully given to prayer in the Spirit as we aught, and in doing so our prayers are directed towards the Father in Jesus’ name and is also truth for us to heed.
We know we sin, are prompted to confess those sins by the working of the Holy Spirit, confess that sin, and realize that is the starting point by the revelation of the Holy Spirit to sin no more for that is what He wants to remind us of through our prayers since Jesus already paid the price. When we become resistant to listening to such prayers (just repeating away) this is where things break down; when we try to enforce our wills and not His and give up asking again and again for such forgiveness, guidance and wisdom (all important). When we find a magic prayer that we repeat we simply tune out and simply expect results, but such prayers do not sink deeply into or come out of the heart where the real work takes place. From experience with group praying, the most incredible praying that has ever passed my lips was beyond what I could formulate myself and I learnt from it in regards to His will, I am just clay, He is the one that shapes. Prayer is a two way street.

so is it not necessary to ask for forgiveness at least once in the day during prayer?

You mean from what I posted? I'm not sure how you came up with that. Maybe you mean something else and I'm just misreading what you responded with?
We know we sin, are prompted to confess those sins by the working of the Holy Spirit, confess that sin, and realize that is the starting point by the revelation of the Holy Spirit to sin no more for that is what He wants to remind us of through our prayers since Jesus already paid the price.
Now when we begin to think we don't need to, that is a big problem, that means we loose our understanding that something is a sin, that we reject the prompting of the Holy Spirit that is there to guide us and to remind us to walk in His way.
Ultimately though, you are asking for a fix so you sin no more, but this only comes at the resurrection of the body. We can sin less, but it is unlikely we will stop entirely due to the struggle between flesh and spirit. Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Actually, Romans ch 7-8 is a really good study, I suggest you dig into that, not just read it but spend days, weeks, months or even years on Romans, it will help you out a lot, I promise.
I mean really from my prospective, the longer I am a Christian the more I really realize just how much I need forgiveness. I don’t sin so much now as I did long ago, but I realize just how damaging even one sin can be and how it effects not just myself but those around me even for years to come. But when imperfection puts on perfection at the transformation of the body, that will be the end of that problem

And as for “once a day”, we should be in prayer all day and every day. Yes the price was paid, but if we stumble into such a business we always need to repent and ask forgiveness, instruction and wisdom and best at the moment it happens. Sin is wrong to do, but it was forgiven, yet we are still suppose to recognize this and ask forgiveness to verify that it is wrong if we truly wish not to do it again, and when we do so it is the Spirit reminding us how we should walk. If we say “ah just another sin” and at some point think nothing of it, how could we ever grow in Christ?
As for dealing with it, it really sounds like you need accountability for something specific. At your Church there should be some people that will be there for you and maybe something they themselves went through. You should maybe talk to your Church pastor, set up a counseling session with Him during office hours, so he can direct you to who in the Church may help. Some Churches have specific groups dealing with specific problems, others have one on one support. So that’s the #1 thing I recommend.

Amen, and He can do this as we read His Word: "the
word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than
any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing
asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and
marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and
intents of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12).
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and
know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way
in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalms
139:23-24).
"Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by
taking heed thereto according to thy word" (Psalms
119:9).
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,
for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God
may be perfect" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
