The most famous box that ever existed was a golden box called The Ark Of The Covenant. Inside The Ark were three things. The Pot Of Mana, The Rod Of Aaron and The Ten commandments. The Pot Of Mana, Jesus said He was this living bread that fell from heaven, The Rod Of Aaron was a walking staff carried by Aaron for many years, this rod was alive as a tree, then was dead and used for a walking stick then it budded again. It symbolizes the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The third thing in This Ark Of God was the Ten Commandments, also symbolic of Christ. (1) Christ, (2) Christ, (3) Christ Remember this...the earthly Ark was only a copy of the Original Ark which is part of the THRONE OF GOD which is in Heaven.........Any Comments???? Any Questions????

According to “Raiders of the lost Ark”, there are a bunch of wispy ghost things that melt your face when you look at them …

Well that's pretty cool but how is the 10 commandments a symbol of Christ. He hardly mentioned them. He instead summerized them with the 2 great commandments. He set us free from sins, he didn't give us rules for the sins. Not that the 10 aren't great but I don't see how they are a symbol of Christ. Aaron's staff I believe. The pot of manna...okay.
Anyway I look forward to your reply.

Hmmm...yeah, I think the most famous box is actually Pandora's Box. Everyone has heard of pandora's box and the metaphor it represents.
Ask a non-Christian about the Ark of the Covenant and most will tell you very confidently about it from what they saw in Indy's first movie.

In Him,
Hardly mentions them? Read Matthew 5. He goes through then then magnifies them by adding thoughts to the deeds that are mentioned.
Mat 5:21 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/popup.pl?book=Mat&chapter=5&verse=21&version=kjv#21)¶Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 (http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/popup.pl?book=Mat&chapter=5&verse=22&version=kjv#22) But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
He also states that His was the voice in the burning bush and His was the finger that wrote the law. I will leave it to you to find where.

In Him,
In the five books of Jesus, (the four gospels and Revelation), Jesus teaches the commandments are to be kept for eternal life, to be born again, to be a saint (need help finding these scriptures ???) Remember this key...everything in the ministry of Moses was a copy of what is in heaven. In the book of Revelation in the temple of God in heaven is seen the original Ark of the covenant in which are the Ten Commandments, this Ark is part of God's Throne that He is presently sitting on.........

We're saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
But He wants more, our journey doesn't end there.
Works is the natural result of being truly saved. Once you choose Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you enter into a journey and the changes should begin. Leaving the old man behind, his old ways and yearnings slowly or even quickly falling away.
Being born again, the Holy Spirit taking up residence in you brings about big changes. The desire to continually work towards living a life that is pleasing to Jesus Christ should become our focus.
The tree that bares no fruit, or bares bad fruit is cut off.
I think a tree that bares no fruit could include the luke warm and the bad fruit could include those that pervert scripture, promoting the worlds values rather than God's truth.
I think Jesus clearly illustrated that God's commandments are still important for believers even though we are not bound by the law, our behavior still counts.
What I wonder is if people who bare no fruit or evil fruit... are they not truly saved? OR Do they consciously resist the Holy Spirits direction to do the work(s) God is leading them to do? Is this a form of the unforgivable sin?
Maybe they were never really saved at all, but just toyed with the idea? Holding back a part of themselves and never really surrendering all?
Maybe those are questions for another thread.^_^

13 each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is.

I believe both are true.
Without Jesus Christ in our hearts as Lord and Savior we can follow the commandments all we want and it won't mean a thing. We need Jesus.
But after we accept Jesus we are obligated to follow His commandments. I don't mean the law given to the Jews, I mean the ten commandments that Jesus Christ Himself reiterated and expanded on in the New Testament. He even expanded on divorce. Christ took some of His very precious time to make sure we understood what was pleasing to God and that we also understood that doing what is pleasing to God is important.
Once you accept Jesus and He resides in you following the ten commandments should become a no brainer, but the ten commandments alone cannot save.
I think when Jesus is truly your savior you want to fullfill the two commandments below... And If you achieve those two the ten commandments fall into place automatically.
Mark 1229 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: 33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question. Mathew 2235 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Luke 10:25-28
25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?" 27 So he answered and said, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' "
28 And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live."

Grace takes us all the way to the throne and nothing is needed from us. No work of our own can save us.
Works determine our reward in Heaven and have no impact on our salvation.
However, I love Him because of all He has done for me and continues to do for me, therefore, I want to obey Him and serve Him and do the work...run the race set before me with the endurance He gives me.
It is all about HIM.

So glad we don't live in the movies!!!
But the ark was VERY HOLY,
the Bibel tells us that men who touched it died. The Bibel doesn't realy give details about how the men died but they died.
That is also why the priest alone was allowed to talk to God in the tempels of the Old Testament. GOD IS HOLY.

How about you Greg?
If an unsaved sinner cannot come to God by the Law, now do you teach that a Christian must now come this way? As a Christian I am no more able to satisfy the Law than I was before.
The difference now is that I am covered by the sacrifice of my Lord, and it is now HIS ability I rest in.

Lily brings to mind an interesting point about touching the Ark. I am reminded of the man who meant well and try to catch the Ark instead of letting it hit the ground. I think it was John Piper who said something about our arrogance in thinking that we are more holy than the dirt that could not sin. How about that to keep us humble? And God sent His Son to save us..not dirt...how's that for encouragment to consider the depth of His love, grace, and mercy?
Of course, the Ark wasn't even being carried properly when it fell.

Thanks for Greg for the explanations about why Jesus is like the 10 commandments.
Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. Rev 22:12-14
But my NIV says it this way (and it makes a whole lot more sense to me):
22:12"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. 22:13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.22:14"Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.
The reward Jesus is talking about is the crown of jewels we get based on the deeds we do on earth. The washing of the robes is the accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. That is what I believe and it makes sense to me.

I don't believe that the NIV is evil. I think it is the word of God.
That being said...I went back to the Greek and indeed the KJV is more accurate. BUT Here is what I believe from these verses and you can believe what you want.
NOBODY can keep the 10 commandments the way Jesus described them. If you look at a person with lust you have committed adultry. If you are angry at someone you have committed murder. If you want anything your neighbour has you are covetous. Only by Jesus's blood are we Blessed.
I ask for forgiveness everyday but sure shooting I'd forget something. My goodness I'm imperfect. But by His Blood I am covered and I am Blessed. Now don't get me wrong I'm not a Mother Theresa and I'm not a Clifford Olsen but I'm what my mother referred to as good people...I try to be good. But to God I'm a sinner...without Jesus I'm a black hearted sinner.
Through Jesus we DO HIS COMMANDMENTS. God doesn't see our sin. It is as far as the east is from the west. That is how we enter the city gates.

I think where the lines get blurred for some is that they assume since we aren't perfect and are bound to stumble from time to time that they need not try at all to follow the commandments or to resist sin.
It's like they've assumed sin is a given so might as well go ahead seeings how their forgiven anyway. Pretty dangerous way to live, especially considering Hebrews 10.
We are far from perfect and thank the Lord for His Love, Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness!!!
We need to be trying to do our best not to sin, to follow God's commandments. The Holy Spirit is there for us to strengthen us and guide us.
Thank goodness for Jesus, I can't come even close without Him!!!
Hebrews 10:23-27
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
I believe our intentions bare a great weight on the issue of sin, but if anyone can clarify the verses above I'd love to understand them more fully.

God bless you sister!
These particular verses have been used often to support the understanding of some who do not believe OSAS.
I personally believe these verses were in response to the Jews who wanted to go back to animal sacrifice for atonement of sin. Meaning that there is no sacrifice left for sin as Jesus Christ was the perfect and blameless sacrifice for ALL sin.
I know there are many who would beg to differ on this understanding...but I firmly believe that sacrifice of Jesus Christ was sufficient for ALL sin and His promise is eternal.
There are a multitude of Scripture that verifies this to me...the promise of the saving grace of Jesus Christ... my favorite being:
Ephesians 1:13,14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
v14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory.
Chuck Missler's teaching on these verses:
"Earnest of our inheritance" earnest = down payment, pledging that the full amount will be paid, also used of bridegroom's betrothal gifts to the bride.
Seal: guarantee that we ourselves will be kept safely for the inheritance (We are His inheritance as well John 17)
Earnest: that the inheritance will be kept securely for us
(We are joint-heirs with Christ Romans 8:17)
God bless you!

John 6:29
28 Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires?
29 Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.
I am so glad I do not have to obey every command of the Law. I discovered pretty quickly that I could not.
The blood of Jesus is my salvation. Nothing else. There IS no other way to gain or to maintain peace with God.
:amen:
It begins with grace, and it end's with grace.
The law was the schoolmaster to bring us to Him, by showing us how imperfect we are.

one more question ...someone please explain...
19 Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple.
Rev 11:19 (NKJV)
if the original ark of the covenant is in heaven right now, why is the covenant not kept ?
Arrg, another one of the great mysteries. Arrg.

NOBODY can keep the 10 commandments the way Jesus described them. If you look at a person with lust you have committed adultry. If you are angry at someone you have committed murder. If you want anything your neighbour has you are covetous.
I thought Jesus was merely making a point about the Pharasies with those examples. I thought He was ridiculing the Ps for wearing Hypocrite Shoes. I think in Rhetoric it is called Extendum Absurdinum or something that sounds like that.

It IS kept - by God Himself - the God side of the covenant is kept by God and the Human side is kep by God in Christ. Our input was never sufficient and never will be, so we rest in His.

IF WE OBEY THE COMMANDMENTS:LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF AND LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART, ALL THY SOUL, ALL THY MIND AND WITH ALL THY STRENGTH, WE ARE KEEPING THE COMMANDMENTS/COVENANT OF CHRIST.

12 "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.
13 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Greg, do you, or anybody you know, manage to keep the commandments of the Lord 100% all the time?
Because if the verse means what you say it means, NOBODY will succeed. There will be just one Man in heaven.
