Can anyone tell me what the difference between Assemblies of God/Pentecostal church and a non-denominational church?
I attended an Assemblies of God church this past weekend and I am considering it being my home church for me and my family... I've always attended non-denominational churches so ....I don’t really want to join a denomination. The pastor at the AG church said that the beliefs and style of worship are the same as of a non-denominational church. Is this true???

I have attended a non-denominational church most of my life. However, for a few years while growing up, my parents moved and attended an Assemblies of God church. Once I married I moved back to my home church where I grew up originally.

So, I've spent quite a bit of time in both churches. I don't feel that there was a HUGE difference. In the two churches that I went to, the non-denominational seems more free when it comes to raising hands and clapping during praise and worship, as well as laying on of hands during healing services and tongues and prophecies. However, to be completely honest, I will also have to say, my non-denominational church at times has to be careful with people that tend to "take things a little too far". I don't remember ever seeing that at the AG church.

Both churches have excellent and respectable pastors. If my home church wasn't so "homey" to me, I would definetly feel comfortable going back to the Assemblies of God church that we went to for those years.

Pray about it and wait for the Lord to open a door to where He wants you to worship.

I've attended both AG churches and non-denominational. The downside to any denominational church is that the leadership has to comply with the "company policy". That keeps order, but it can hinder the Holy Spirit. I've seen more politics involved in the denominational churches also. Most non-denom churches answer only to the local leadership that they have established, which can be good and bad. There is no ideal situation, but I think if you find a mature, well organized, well structured non-denom church, that knows how to flow in the Holy Spirit, that would be something to consider.

"Non-denominational" just means that a church doesn't have a governing heirarchy, or "headquarters." There are several different belief systems and styles of worship throughout all the non-denominational churches throughout the world. You can go to two on two different Sundays and find worlds of difference.

Assemblies of God ARE a denomination: their headquarters is in Springfield, Missouri.

I go where the worship team is most inspiring. I praise the Lord the best through song and dance :)
