So how do Messianics prepare for Pesach?
A thorough house cleaning (along with
your work place and car)? Gathering
and burning of hametz?
Do you observe the first two/last two days
of Pesach? Avoid doing melachos?
Two seders or one?
How about types of food you eat- is kitniot
okay in your households?
Just curious about any traditions you follow
and why,

A thorough house cleaning (along with your work place and car)?

I have done that for many years. Ours was the only home in which our Rabbi would come for the family Seder as he knew we were KLP.

Last year we had just moved and there was an unforeseen but unavoidable emergency. We were forced to be on the road - we had a very hard time finding KLP products in my area and I bought matzoh and horseradish on the way and took our shank bone KLP wine with us. We had a Seder siting at a table in a motel room on some interstate - and pronounced all chametz in the room (since we didn't clean) as not belonging to us or known to us.

This year I did what I could as I'm not abe to clean house much due to a back disability [I was paralyzed nearly 20 years ago and while I am able to walk I have to avoid irritating the injury] and did not have he resources to pay for help this year :(

Gathering and burning of hametz?

yes, we usually do that too :)

Do you observe the first two/last two days of Pesach?

first two and last one as Shabbatot

Avoid doing melachos?

yes during the Shabbatot

Two Seders or one?

unfortunately it varies - when in a MJ community we have 2 - prefer the first night at home and then 2nd night with the community

now that we are not in a MJ or Jewish community we do first night as Seder - I just don't have it in me to do 2 nights as full Seders on my own

How about types of food you eat- is kitniot okay in your households?

every year we learn of some new things that are kitnyot - and every year we battle our flesh that tries to reason against the wisdom of the Rabbis who instruct us to avoid those foods/ingredients

an additional problem now is that there is no one around here to whom we can sell our chametz who would understand or be willing ... :sigh:

I'm sorry I've been so late in responding.

I observe the first and last days of Pesach as a Shabbat, and I do my best to prepare ahead for the feast.

Unfortunately, these last 5 years that I have been keeping Kosher, I live at home, and have to basically 'work around' my family.
It's very frustrating, especially at pesach. I try to clean the kitchen as best as possible so I can cook my own matzah.

Next year, I have my own home, own kitchen, own utensils and I can do it right.

I also have another complication of having Celiac Sprue. Finding Oat Matzoh has to be done by mail, and I'm still uncertain if I can have it. However, I can eat Rice, Buckwheat, Beans, Peas, Lentils, Quinoa, Potato and a few other items that can be ground to make flour.

My family history is both Ashkenazi and Sephardi... but with the complications of what I can and can't eat due to my diet, I stick more sephardic in my observance of Pesach, otherwise I could not eat very much as far as what items are available seasonably or even having home-made matzah.

I've asked around at our Celiac Support Group and the only Jewish lady there is not observant as far as Kashrut and only cooks Gluten free for her daughter who also suffers from CP..

I think I may have better luck next year since I will be in Germany and getting the Matzah will be easier from England. LOL

So to answer your question about kitniot... well.. I think you know now. LOL

I usually have two seders, I had been having one with the elders at my congregation (since I couldn't have a seder on my own) - and also our congregational seder during the week, which was typically a teaching seder for newbies as well as us together as a congregation.

Do I burn Chametz? No, I couldn't do that in previous years. We will see about this year, but I am working to plan ahead so there is no chametz in the home ahead of cleaning time/Pesach so no need to burn. I am unsure of the burning laws in Germany and do not want to upset neighbors for their 'crazy neighbors' over everything... so I think cooking outside and burning would be out of the question if we are in a flat. ;)

I am still learning so I was unsure if I knew what the 39 Melachos were.. but now I know thanks to TorahTots (LOL! :D) - I did know... but I didn't know the word for it.

I do - except for #32 & #33.. I do a lot of extensive Torah Study on Shabbat and use my laptop as well as write my notes. Other than that I do not do anything else.

Full housecleaning, although I never do as well as my Bubbe used to, I don't scrub the doors or the outsides of the cabinets , nor repaint them. :) Also I don't do the car, as I don't live in it, I consider the mitzvah 'your dwelling' as any home, not other buildings, as that would forbid having any animals that would be eating grains during Pasach.

I have put together kits, wooden spoon, bag, feather, etc. But this year did not use them, as all Chametz was out way before.

Observe first day and last day unleavened, only preparing food for that day.

One Seder this year, others, two.

Kitniot - I am mainly of Sephardic background so do keep it, but don't cook it. :) But do feed animals.

This year I decided that Kosher for Passover cakes and other things risen without yeast, ( including matzoh balls) were not in keeping with the mitzvah. I will explain if anyone is interested.

Question for anyone, Do you eat Lamb for Passover?

Question for anyone, Do you eat Lamb for Passover?we do - since whatever meat you use is a "representation" of the sacrifice (until HaShem restores the Temple and Service), like the Zora - and we feel lamb is more symbolic than chicken ;)
