A heretical early teaching about the nature of Jesus. It postulated that the human nature of Jesus was overwhelmed and absorbed into His divine nature. The Council of Chalcedon condemned Monophystism in A.D. 451. A simple teaching was formulated that one divine person with two distinct, full, and true natures, one human and one divine, existed in Jesus.
