Just wondering, has anyone here ever witnessed to a Jehovah's Witness before? We have been studying them in our Sunday school class and I found out things about them that I never knew. Ironically, they were out this week passing out invitations to a gathering they are having at a local country club here. They stopped by my house, my sister's, and my Mom's handing out these invitations. They are always so friendly and are so knowledgeable in there beliefs and how they interpret their bible. I don't feel like I know enough to even witness to one, because I'm sure they would debate with you and I am not very good at that. Has anyone ever talked to one before and discussed your beliefs and their beliefs?

I never have but I have read up on them. I recommend going to the CARM (http://www.carm.org) website. They cover all the cults. Just go to the JW section and you'll probably find the information you are looking for. Another good site is Effective Evangelism (http://www.christiananswers.net/evangelism/home.html). If you're going to buy any books I recommend Ron Rhodes or Walter Martin.

I haven't had JW's come to my house in a long time - but I'm ready if and when they do. Since they always come with lots of their Watchtower Press literature - I keep a copy of the London Baptist Confession on hand to give to them. In the past when I tell them I'll take their literature if they take mine they've disappeared pretty quickly.

Come to think of it, that's probably why they haven't been here in ages and ages.

Ya Ive witnessed to two Jehovah's witnesses. And a mormon. You need to know your Bible and what they believe so you can counteract that. There is lots of good literature out there to give to them. Most Jehovah's witnesses will not take any literature. It is forbidden by the Watchtower Organization to take "hate literature", which is anything that speaks against "Watchtower", which they believe is the holy spirit manifested on earth. They use the New World translation of the Bible which jumbles up the word of God. For example:

John 1:1 In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god

King James Version
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

I have witnessed to Jw my Aunt is one.
They have translated the bible taken Jesus out of it. They pray only to Jehouha. Also they use watchtowers, amazing. mags.

They are so legalistic. I went to the hall on Christmas. They do not observe Jesus Birth or his resuccerntion. They try to do door to door but they see Jesus as one of us no better like me and you.

Also they do not allow blood trabsfusions no matter how anyone is they believe God provides enough blood no matter what.

Also they cannot voice in politics

And the sermon spoken is not written but by the organation. Same sermon is told every Sunday but by the same topic. One person spreads out the sermon and all Kingdom Hall has the same message

That's a good idea. I might try that if I'm ever visited by one again.

That is the exact same verse we had talked about in Sunday school last Sunday! I didn't realize their bible reads so differently from ours. They don't even believe in a Hell.

First thing to remember, be loving. The goal is not to see how fast you can send them leaving your front door. The goal is to witness to them. I've read a thread on here quite some time ago that was very imformative. One of the posters was a former JW. They admitted that arguing about differing issues probably won't get you very far.
The former JW poster offered this:

So, you and I are standing on the street talking and someone walks up, puts a gun to my head and says you have 2 minutes to live. Then ask the JW, would I be saved if I became a JW? (Because they believe salvation also comes from being a member of their organization, they're most likely going to say no. ) So then, quoting Jesus on the cross to one of the two criminals crucified with him, 'Today, you will be with me in paradise'. Therefore how can this criminal be saved and not me?

Give them your story, and how salvation is by the Grace of God. Let the Spirit do the real work.

JW door-knockers are always women in our area, whereas the Mormons are always teenage/early 20s young men. So I'd rather answer the door for the pretty JW ladies ;). I take their stuff and read it, testing myself to see what i can find that I do not believe is orthodox.

I've gotten into a tussle with some mormon boys once--would you believe they walked off my porch and would finish the conversation they started:D

I've not gotten into any discussions with the JW ladies...I get a little tongue-tied and nervous around women, even with mrs menno sometimes:blush:

I don't remember this (I was only ~5) but my parents tell about a time that 2 JW women came to our house on Christmas morning with their small children in tow. Evidently when my mom made it clear that she wasn't interested in talking to them, they used the excuse that their children were cold so could they please, please bring them inside to warm up. My mom (very wise woman) responded that if the children were cold then their mothers should take them home where they belonged!!!

How interesting. Years ago, when my son was 2 or less, two JW ladies came to the door and said it was pretty cold out there. I allowed myself to get into an argument with them, although it was very civil and not vicious or anything like that. This was almost 20 years ago and I was far less mature spiritually than I am now--not that I'm all super wise now.

Well, my little son was ready to eat and tired of it all, so he came up to the door, told me something about being hungry and how it was time to eat, and began to shut the door in those ladies' faces. And I just went along with him. I'm sure I did say some sort of cordial goodbye. Don't get me wrong. I was not in the habit of letting a toddler rule the household, but this seemed...right. Besides, my baby didn't need to go hungry while I engaged in bickering. Oh by the way, I didn't see them after that.

Yes, they can be remarkable sometimes.
