Does anyone know his contact information? joyinsorrow.com was taken offline and I'd like to know why, or if we can help - if it needs funds or whatever.

Well, I dont have his contact info...but he has left the Orthodox Church, so that may be why it he took it down. He is now Catholic.

From a thread on Byzcath.org

"Since my name has been mentioned, let me explain.

My family and I struggled for many years trying to understand the full implications of our commitment to the Gospel. Our decision to enter into communion with the Pope of Rome was not made in haste but only after a long and intense internal (and familial) debate. We had to struggle with our own deeply sectarian (us versus them) perspective that we brought with us into Orthodoxy from our Protestant roots. (Let me repeat with emphasis: this sectarian attitude was brought by us into Orthodoxy; I do not believe that it is "natural" to Orthodoxy.) We finally realized that the only way we could put our own sectarianism to death was to enter into communion with the Apostolic Church of the West while continuing our spiritual journey within the Eastern/Orthodox spiritual and sacramental traditions.

This being said, it would cause intense and deep sorrow should our journey out of sectarianism be used by any one in a sectarian way.

Sincerely,

Fr John Mack "

I'm probably going to regret reading it, but I found a huge discussion about it on another forum that I'm reading. I'm really disappointed.

Lord, have mercy... :crosseo:

I keep a prayer list specifically for these kinds of people. It'll be longer tonight...

I have heard of him. Did he author some books, time ago? Was he specialized in theology? I am not sure in what field though.

Funny they should protest sectarianism by apostasizing from the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, into a sect.

Lord, have mercy on them all.

I found him on byzcath.org, and was able to ask about the website. I am sad to report looks like it might be gone for good.

In verifying his identity, I said, "Are you the former Orthodox priest John Mack?" In his reply he mentioned "I still am the Orthodox priest John Mack." I don't get it. His own posts on that board make it clear he's left the church.

He led a college Orthodox ministry in Lawrence, KS. I feel bad for all those college kids.

He wrote "Preserve them, O Lord," which is still an excellent book for couples. These things happen sometimes. Just pray.

Sometimes, when people apostasize from the Orthodox Faith and become Melkite, they continue to identify themselves as Orthodox, not always out of deception but because that's what they really believe about themselves.

In my experience, Melkites in general try to be as flagrantly un-Roman as possible, hoping it will give them street cred as "Orthodox in communion with Rome". And it gets even more galling from there.
