Inside those pages are the same words, no matter what title is placed on it's cover.

Who decided to separate 'old' from 'new' and give them such titles? .....Man!?
If it is God's intention that all books together, from Genesis to Revelation, are His word, then it is all "The Holy Scriptures"

I usually just say "New Testament" because I'm not very comfortable with Hebrew yet. ;)

but what do you call that section when you speak of it? it often comes up in conversation, so i assume you call it by a label of some sort.

Lately I have been wondering why we throw a bunch of Hebrew words into our English speech as we talk of Biblical topics.
It seems kind of odd to me.

I'm fine with using correct Hebrew names for the characters in there, but when we throw random Hebrew words into our posts...I wonder what the point of it is.
Are we trying to impress other's....or do we simply feel convicted to do so?

If we are going to use some words, why not our whole posts?
Then who will read them?

Personally, I see them as a stumbling block more than anything.
When I first joined CF some years back....I didn't know what the heck half of the people here were talking about.
I had to go and look up those words to figure out what they were saying.
Then I began to do the same.....(I thought it was the right thing to do, because everyone else was doing it and I was excited to be here)....but now I see it as something unnecessary.

When my mother speaks to me in English she will occasionally throw in a Spanish word (her native tongue).
I have to say, it throws me right off. (I dont speak Spanish)
But she has an excuse for doing it.....
What is our excuse?

Maybe some of you have noticed.....but I am re-evaluating much in my life at the present time.

I'm basically sorting the wheat from the chaff in my faith.

In my opinion: The page that says “New Testament” is a man made page. And it is my opinion; it has served as a divider. The word “Testament” also has the meaning of

a: an act by which a person determines the disposition of his or her property after death.

This leaves me to feel that something is dead and done away with and no longer useful. it is my opinion that this is why that page was put into the Bible. And this is why I ripped that page out a long time ago. This is why I prefer to use anything but “New Testament”. Again; this is just my opinion.

I usually say "brit hadasha." I have trouble with the artificial demarcation between "old testament" and "new testament," though. It's one continuous testament that becomes progressively more & more clear as you go.

My every day speech is sprinkled with hebrew and yiddish expressions as well as spanish and amharic. Had to teach hubby a bit of amharic when we were first dating so he could understand my family - we sometimes forget the words we are using aren't english.

Some of us are uncomfortable using "church" expressions because we feel they don't give the full sense of a word, or they have negative conotations, when there shouldn't be. Like the word "law" that some christians seem to have hang-ups with - the word Torah doesn't seem to evoke that same viseral response.

As for what jargon I use, it really depends for me on who I am talking to. What will communicate the best.
