Hello there, I just have a question... and it probably sounds ridiculous.
Some people at my youth group no longer wear anything rainbow (wristbands, shoelaces etc.) because they claim it;s advocating gay pride.
However, all I can see rainbows as are a sign of innocence and child-like nature!
What would you do in this situation? I don't want to be looked down upon simply for wearing a design I love.
Thank you for taking the time to read this :)

According to the Bible, the rainbow is a covenant sign God gave Noah and his posterity as a token of God's promise never again to curse the earth for mans sake:
"And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth." -Gen. 9:12-17 (KJV)
Man has perverted what God has established.
As of late, it is public opinion that the "gay" population has took the "rainbow" as their symbol. As long as you know why your wearing it, and it isn't for what others say, and your happy with it, who cares.
God Bless
Till all are one.

Would you mind if I showed the people this quote if they say anything to me?

My username stands for God's promise. I took on first the username rainbow and then added to it over time.
It all started when I was quite young and our Sunday school teacher was teaching about Noah. I heard the part where he built the ark according to God's specifications and how the rain started. Familiar children's Bible story!
Then I went to my grandparents for the summer. It rained all summer. I did not think about it until I was on the way home. That is when I realized that It had been raining for 60 days and nights. I could not stop crying until I got to Sunday school and my teacher took time out to tell me the rest of the story.
From that day forward, rainbows were a promise from God no matter how much science explained them.
Then when I was the mom of a 6 year old I became a Beaver leader. Scouts! They named me rainbow. It was a reminder to me that God was a part of my life and had a promise for me. God was calling me back to Him and I had to pay attention. Even now when I am taking life too fast a rainbow will appear and I slow down to remember God's promise.

Looks like you beat me to it Dean. ;)
Indeed the rainbow is the sign of God's covenant with Noah that he would never destroy the earth with a flood again. I suppose it is also a reminder that God will once again destroy the world, not with a flood, but with fire. As it says,Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! (2 Peter 3:11-12)
...that's a bit mean.
Richard says a lot of crazy things. Alas he is right on this occasion. The notion of gay pride is essentially flaunting one's sin in God's face. Maybe it would be more obvious if the sin were overtly harmful to others. I doubt we would have any tolerance for murderer's pride or thief's pride.
Now, I certainly think that it is un-Christian to protest gay pride parades and to speak harsh words towards gay people (since most who participate in these protests tend to be highly arrogant, and often believe that their own holiness is perfect). Nonetheless, there is nothing godly about gay pride.

Did you know that you can best view a rainbow by tilting your head at 44 degrees?
Sorry, but you know I couldn't resist saying it! ^_^

Yes you have Richard. To use your words precisely, you often say, "the earth is fixed."

I have faced a situation like this.
When Pokemon was a new tv program,
my two sons were very "into" it.
One of my sons had a pair of sneakers with Pokemon on it.
One of our pastors said he studied Pokemon and found out they were demonic.
I, on the other hand, used to watch the Pokemon tv show with my sons.
I thought they were much better than American cartoons.
The bad guys sometimes even admitted they were wrong and shed tears of repentance!
Can you imagine?!
I was thankful for Pokemon cartoons!
Well, I tried to find info on what the pastor was saying but I did not find any.
Since I was not convicted that they were evil,
but rather appreciated the right vs wrong morals of the stories,
I did not make my kids stop watching.
However, my sons did not wear their Pokemon sneakers or t-shirts to church or at other church functions,
and this was because it had been preached against in the pulpit,
and I felt it would be disrespectful to the leadership of the church,
and I was aware of other families who had decided to abstain from Pokemon.
I felt it was the respectful thing to do.
You will get all kinds of different answers, and a person's response has everything to do with a person's personality type.
Some people are really abrasive and in your face,
some people are more compliant and avoid confrontation.
My advice is to not wear rainbows to church or at church functions.
I feel the same way you do about rainbows,
but unfortunately the gay community has stolen our symbol.
Your church is your church family.
It's the culture you live in.
You should be willing to go with the flow in order to not offend other people.
What do you think about that idea?

God made the rainbow for us as a promise and something for us to enjoy. God made creation so colorful for his pleasure & ours.
I love all colors and it makes me mad & sad that the rainbow has been misused as a symbol for homosexuals.
You might still wear those and use it as a testimony to the real truth of the rainbow. :)
I have seen some rainbow color t-shirts with wording on them about God's creation. :)

If you absolutely must wear rainbows inside church or at church functions, I suggest you make a "godly appeal" sharing your point of view concerning rainbows, with a request to allow the wearing of rainbows at church.
The nature of a godly appeal is such that it is done with a humble heart-attitude,
and a negative response is respectfully and humbly accepted.
You could come from the point of view that the rainbow belongs to Christians, and we should redeem it, taking it back from those who stole it.

Genesis 9
And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."
And Satan yet again finds a way to take God's promise to us and twist it for his own purpose.
Ephesians 6
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Very soon we as Christians will be so afraid to do anything because the darkness of this world will have cornered us into giving up every thing that sets us apart as children of God. :(
