Will my fellow Orthodox Christians help me do bible study in this site?

We can spread the truth of Orthodoxy to this forum.

Please? :priest:

WP , I won't .

Let me tell you something I was told by my SF before I I was to be Chrismated into the Ukrainian Catholic Church.

He wished me to absorb the Eastern Spirituality and develop the mindset.

If I was unable to attend the UGCC Parish [and remember just going there for DL involves me in a 6 hour plus day as I have to go by public Transport ] he told me that he would really prefer that I attended a Russian Orthodox Church rather than an RC one - so that I would become immersed in the East.

Because of this there is no way that I would join in ~Bible Study with a multi faith group - their minds do not see things the way we do.

I would seriously suggest that you should ask Fr Anthony if he is happy with you being involved with this group

Ok, but I know there are fellow Orthodox brothers who could sign up and help with Bible study in that specific forum, not the whole forum.

If not, I'll do it by myself.

Peace

From the site:

This forum is for Bible study and discussion.
Quote:

Study: To apply one's mind purposefully to the acquisition of knowledge or understanding of (a subject).
To read carefully.
To inquire into; investigate.
To examine closely; scrutinize.
To give careful thought to; contemplate
v. intr.
To apply oneself to learning, especially by reading. Notice the terms understanding, investigate, scrutinize and learning. Scripture is to be examined by this criteria... we are not scrutinizing individual members here. Please do not make it personal.

Right approach: "I've been studying this portion of Scripture. I think this is what it means; what do you think?"

Wrong approach: "My way of interpretation is the only way. You are wrong, wrong, wrong." (If you believe this and cannot respect the thoughts of other members, you have no reason to bring it to public discussion - this is not a personal soapbox).

When I am strictly focused on what is right and wrong, or who is right and wrong, I fall into a lonely place of battle. It's me versus them. Let's be considerate of one another when discussing our differences. Christians who differ in opinion from you are not the enemy; they are brothers and sisters in Christ, members of the same body.

"Sometimes, it is better to be kind than right." It is easy for us, when we are mired in the matter of who is right and who is wrong, to forget that God wants more than that.

God's Word is clear is clear on how we are to relate with one another. It tells us to be (Eph. 4:32) "kind, tenderhearted and forgiving" (Rom. 12:10) "kindly affectionate with brotherly love" Rom. 14:13 paraphrased reminds us that the matter of judging who is right is secondary to this; we are to help promote and build up one another and not become a hinderance to our brother's walk. (James 5:9) "do not grumble against one another."

Interpret the Bible the way you think God meant it to be interpreted. Hold your beliefs with confidence. But always remember to be charitable to to those who differ with your interpretation.I am a catechumen, at least until Pascha this year, and am going to abide by the advice of our archbishop:

"Thus, when we are only beginners in the Christian way and not yet strengthened and armed against attack, we should not make a show of what we have nor attempt to convince others. We might easily be defeated by skilled detractors and end up full of doubt. Or we could appear proud and self-righteous. A life lived in complete accordance with the truth is finally the most convincing argument for the Gospel." - Archbishop Dmitri, The Parables

So even though I have been a Christian for nearly 30 years, and can hold my own among many seminary graduates when it comes to dealing with the Greek New Testament, things theological, and general (and even specific) Bible knowledge, I am reluctant at this time to engage in discussions with non-Orthodox about the faith - or their faith - unless they instigate such discussions with me.

If you want you could help me do readings and quote Scripture from the Holy Bible in that specific forum.

It is good practice/discipline/and training for me.

I've been a member of that site for a long time though.

K3,
Sometimes I think someone ought to take a baseball bat and whack you out of sheer love to wake you up to what others are saying to you.

They're saying that this is a very bad idea for a catechumen, and that you should not do anything like this without SPECIFICALLY asking your priest if you should get involved in THAT particular group.

Your Catholic language (re:absolution) has shown that you are not clear on Orthodox theology. Please don't go spreading it to others!

Please forgive me!

Thanks for the offer, but I will take a pass. I am already involved too much in Internet discussions!!

Maybe after a few months....K3,
