THis is the time that the kids get on the net and play games and use up alot of the bandwidth. Then later on the parents get on after work and crank it up some more. Ususally levels off around 9PM

CF is no slower than it usually is (which is slow). I am, however, unable to access my email at the moment.

This happens frequently, though. There are times I can't get on at all.

And I don't blame it on Verizon.

That's true, Rad. I think it's CF's servers though that are having the heavy load since we do have games here (somewhere...I don't play them). My ISP connection to other sites ZOOM, so I know it's not that :)

On Thursday, March 29, at 10 PM Eastern (9 PM Central), the National Geographic Channel will be airing a special called "Impossible Moves: Colossal Churches." There is a very good chance that my wife and father-in-law will appear on the special as they were both interviewed during the filming.

The church that is being moved is Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) in rural Audubon, IA. This is the church where my wife and I were married. My wife attended this church as a child. In addition to our wedding, she was baptized and confirmed at Trinity. We have the distinction of being the last couple married in the church before it closed.

If you get National Geographic Channel, check out what promises to be an interesting show.

Feeling better this morning. I've been vacillating between hopeful and thoroughly stressed and depressed about work all week. Yesterday afternoon I ended up in tears. So I went home and dug in the yard for a while, praying the whole time. I feel MUCH better today, and am fasting for guidance on my job.

Meanwhile, we got the half-truck of wood chips dumped on our driveway this morning. I'm taking tomorrow off to help Hunter get The New Playset from the toy store. Then we'll see how much more ground prep we need to do before beginning set up. (Not sure if it needs cement anchors or what, and won't know until we get the instructions)

So far we've dug up the whole rock garden (who knew there were so many rocks under those clumps of greenery??) and tried to salvage some of the plants -- the blueberry bushes and the daffodil bulbs, primarily. Everything else went into the compost.

It's quite a project, but Gem is going to have SO much fun on this new wooden playset. It's got swings and a slide and a fort with a picnic table under it.

Oh, I remember how stressful exams were! I'd rather have my work stress than go through that again. At work, there is the day-to-day stuff still to do, even when the craziness ensues. In school, the entire focus during that time was exams... that was all there was to study for or work on. So in some ways the stress was even more intense.

I'm glad you can go jogging in the wood. I find God speaks to me very strongly (and quietly) when I am in the woods or near water. His peace steals over me and His healing calms and soothes my troubled spirit.

Most American students go to university at 18 or 19, too. If you are very, very smart, and have been through an excelerated program in High School, you can sometimes go to university younger than 18, especially if you have a very strong gift in a particular subject.

It does not happen very often. Most of us go at the regular age. Mel is special, and very blessed. With it comes a number of attendant problems, I'm sure.

At one time on American TV, we had a show called "Doogie Howser, MD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doogie_Howser,_M.D.)", that was about a child prodigy who graduated from Princeton at age 10 (which stretches things quite a bit), then went to medical school, and was a practicing doctor of medicine as a teenager.

However, real life sometimes mirrors media. There was a Virginia boy who graduated from college at age 14 (http://www.virginia.edu/topnews/releases2003/child-june-4-2003.html). So while it is VERY unusual, it does happen.

I think I've heard of that, you can even see such stories at German TV.
In Germany I've never heard of such stories. I think it has something to do with the German bureaucracy. All has to conform to reguirements, no exeptions, but I'm not sure.
Attending university in the age of 18 or 19 is even early, normally you go in the age of 20 as a woman and 21 or 22 as a man to university. The men have to do their military or civilian service, so they are losing a year.

Our High Schools go to grade 12 and the age when a student graduates is 17 or 18. Usually close to 18. I know that in Gymnasium, there is a 13th grade and you are usually 18 - 19 when you are finished. I am also aware of the other two types of schools there, where the requirements are different.

There are not many who go to University younger than 18 in this country. Mel is a very intelligent young lady and I am sure she works hard too.

Do not worry about using your English here. As you have seen, if we are not sure, we will ask. I think it is great that you are willing to talk with us here and by doing so, you will learn how we speak and write English which will help you.

Are you going to become a doctor?

Are you aware of how morally corrupt the medical industrial complex is? I'm not trying to dissuade you from becoming a doctor, somebody has to fix it, I just wonder how much you know about it?

It is a mater of particular concern to me because I had been slowly dying all of my life from severe disturbances in the Krebs cycle and the electron transfer chain. Only as of the last few months have I finally been able to make some serious improvement in my health since I figured this out. I was on my last legs, thanks to the pharmaceutical industry’s ability to blackball teaching about any unpatientable substance at medical universities.

Well, we got the playset -- five boxes worth. Had to rent a U-Haul to get it. Dragged the old one to the dump, along with some other big things. Then broke open the boxes and began taking pieces to the backyard. When Gem got out of school we headed to Home Depot for a few tools we needed for the project (and a few we probably don't need but they looked cool). Then she helped me sort nuts and bolts and screws according to size into about 20 different little containers, because they had all come in three big bags mixed up together.

We got phase one done before dark, at least. One out of 23. Tomorrow's going to be a long day.

But the playset (http://www.adventureplaysets.com/play_sets.php?y=2007&ps=59)is going to be amazing when it's done.

Best part of microbiology is getting to study sewage. Fascinating, I got to do some independant study on a malfunctioning sewage plant. Didn't see a rotifer for months. Turned out the city power company was poisoning the city sewage plant.

Anyway, if you've never seen a rotifer go to http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/wimsmall/rotidr.html

They are like a big mouth with a sweep broom pushing the food in on each side.

Of course Pathogenic Microbiology was handy so I knew it was pneumococcal pneumonia I had.

I have gotten in trouble with doctors over the whole thing, when one talked about how he couldn't figure out why I got infections visiting his office, I suggested that he should try washing his hands. He didn't appreciate that, I wasn't coming back anyway.

My main teacher couldn't eat tuna out of a can. I still to this day consider it a major accomplishment to be able to cook a turkey and not have anyone get sick.

And don't talk to me about eating the fruits and vegetables flooding the market that come from third world countries. People wouldn't drink the water, but rinse a strawberry with the water that seems a lot like sewage to me, and they pop it in their mouth without a thought. That's not even mentioning that third world countries don't use porta potties, they just use the field when the urge strikes. Don't worry it's organic!

My first thought when I looked at my outfit in the mirror was that I looked like one of the characters from Lord of the Rings. The first thought when I saw this picture was that George looked like some evil little imp or something of that sort - that I should crop out his picture and shrink it, so I guess that is appropriate?

http://pics.livejournal.com/kagomeshuko/pic/0000c5ah
My sister said that I looked like a hippie. Okay, I think the outfit is cute no matter what. Michael mentioned that I was wearing a lot of blue to which I said, "so are you." I was the example slide girl, too. . .so, I guess we are both slide girls here!

No. ^_^ I caught some grief from some people here when I wore a chausable for communion. If I showed up shoeless, I'd get run out on a rail!

I did try to get a couple of the acolytes at my vicarage congregation to go barefoot one Sunday. One of the boys came to church in his football uniform because he had a game right after. But his cleats were caked in mud and he couldn't wear them in church. So he went in his socks which were this deep royal blue. It looked strange with the red cassock and the white cotta, almost like a 4th of July parade. So I tried to convince him that it would look better without them than with them, but he couldn't be persuaded. He did look silly up there in red, white, and blue.^_^

Hey Rev, you still need to relax during this week, don't leave our pillow fight entirely. (Hey, I can say that, I have to remind a certain Pastor of that every year)

I was on a mission trip and a Pastor was part of the group. Some of the team members were not happy that he wasn't pulling his weight so I suggested that maybe he should do a specific task as we needed his help. One of the members was shocked I would tell a Pastor what to do. I don't know, it might have something to do with the fact that I have this long term fling going on with mine! All legal and up and up, of course!

Well, off to Bible Study for me!

How tall is Michael? Does he ever eat?
My dad is almost 6'3".

Michael and he were about the same height - I think my dad was just a bit taller. Yeah, I'm 5' so he's got to be a bit over 6'.

He eats. In fact, he had three apples in his backsack that night. I don't know when he ate them or if he did, but he had them. I think he and George were also going to go out for a pizza with the concert hosts.

Plus, when I hosted them, they all ate gumbo!

He's a runner, though - jogs probably every day and runs marathons, so. . .he's gonna be thin!

George bent down to my height in the picture where it's just the two of us. . .

Yes, rev, and this was just on Friday :) We didn't mention you though, sorry. We were a bit busy with other things - them, with the concert especially. Troy wasn't there to take care of all the merchandise, either (though that's good for me as it makes me talk to Michael instead. . .)

Vista (as any new operating system) has compatibility problems with other software.
I usually do not upgrade an OS for about a year.

I stayed on 2000 for a long time before going XP. Again, software compatibility problems.

However, I upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 almost immediately. IE6 had too many holes.

I usually wait with an OS upgrade, yet apply all the patches, updates, service packs on the existing OS as soon as they come out.

I'm not liking it for a variety of reasons. I don't like the way it handles giving error messages where no matter what you are doing or what program you're using, it makes you quit because the whole screen of the computer goes dim and then you get the error message.

I'm not too fond of the start menu, either, though it's not the worst. I preferred when the things in a list went away without me clicking on them again. If I had wanted that, I used the menus were it has the + and - boxes.

I don't like trying to find the MyDocuments type of folder, which is now like User/firstname.lastname/next file folder/next file folder

My mom had a really hard time getting it to connect to the Internet when the setup should've been simple.

It tends to set settings back to what it just wants a lot of times.

One Sunday I noticed when people knelt that the Pastor's wife had 1962 written on the bottom of her shoes, very faintly.

I asked her about it later and she had no clue. Only thing we could think of was that maybe it was the price. But she'd had them for years, and seldom buys full-price shoes if she can help it.

Anyway, that's my kneeling-at-the-rail story.

Hehe, our church is about 1000 years old, not in whole, but the main chamber. It was an old Saxon castle building, but it had been completed in the past by a little tower and a little room behind the altar. The Worship room is made up of stone and has big walls, so in summer it's always cool inside the most time. In winter there is a good heating.
If I could, I would post a picture, but I think it doesn't work, because of my amount of posts.

Good morning!!

Red, I thought we would hear more "baby talk!" How is the little one?

seajoy, enjoy the time with your son.

This morning, my youngest is waiting for a recruiter to stop by with information on which jobs he qualifies for. This boy does not know what he wants to do past graduation in May. College interests him, but not really since he is so not sure what he wants to study. He has talked to recruiters of all branches except the Marines. The type of positions he is interested in are those that are usually away from any hot spots.

I was sick Tues afternoon-Thursday evening, wasn't able to make it to any Maundy Thursday services. At least I was able to make it to Good Friday.

Got my hair cut today, an inch above my shoulders - shorter than how I really like it, but that way it has time to grow and stay where I do like it.

Yep, my "hippie" or "flower child" hair is gone. . .it'll probably be back soon enough if I decide that I don't want it cut again.

There were Five country churches in a small TEXAS town:
The Presbyterian Church, the Baptist Church , the Methodist Church , the Lutheran Church and the Jewish Synagogue.

Each church and Synagogue was overrun with pesky squirrels.

One day, the Presbyterian Church called a meeting to decide what to do about the squirrels.
After much prayer and consideration they Determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will.

In The BAPTIST CHURCH the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistry. The deacons met and decided to put a cover on the baptistry and drown the squirrels in it. The squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next week.

The Methodist Church got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creation. So, they humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free a few miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.

But -- The Lutheran Church came up with the best and most effective solution.
They confirmed the squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter

Not much was heard about the Jewish Synagogue, but they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision and they haven't seen a squirrel on the property since.

We have a partly-potluck breakfast. The Fellowship Committee makes egg casseroles, and people sign up for the rest. I signed up to make "coffee cake" so I made my banana-chocolate chip Bundt cake in the castle-shaped mold, and pulled out the hand-colored rainbow sign Gem made that says "A Mighty Fortress is Our God". *grins* It's usually a big hit.

Tomorrow afternoon we're going to the in-laws, and I'm bringing veggies. Cold broccoli salad and hot herbed carrots (dill, lemongrass, chives). It'll be the first family thing my husband and his younger brother have been to since Christmas.. when they got into such a political debate that the brother sent my husband a not-so-nice letter saying he never wanted to talk to him again, nor hear about our loser friends, and explained in insidious detail how disappointed he was that my husband hadn't made more of his life (hadn't finished college, etc).

We've been praying for reconciliation for months. They've talked once since then. This will be the first full-family "thing" where they'll have to interact.

Should be interesting.

For Guidance.
O GOD, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light riseth up in darkness for the godly; Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what thou wouldest have us to do, that the Spirit of Wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in thy light we may see light, and in thy straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Yeah, I hear you. Closest I ever come to hose is the black stockings I wear for choir concerts. I don't really have any shoes that match my outfit, so I'll probably end up wearing my usual black high-heel sandals.

I've got a nice warm terri cloth dress that I can wear. I'll probably just wear yoga pants under it as it depends on my mood with nylons and I don't really like them to stay "warm." I'm usually cold in them if it's cold.

We're singing Allen Potes' "Wake Up To A World of Light" tomorrow. No sunrise service. . .and the news is even reporting that this is the oddest Easter forecase Lake Charles has ever had!
