New to this board.

Hi all I guess this is the only place I am allowed to debate. My neighbor told me I could get into trouble for debating in the denominations that I am not a part of. Why is that?

Hey Kenpo and welcome to this forum :)

There are forums in Theology where we are allowed to debate, but the congregational forums are primarily for fellowship and discussion within a more agreeable environment.

In some ways it's a safe-haven, but it also means we can discuss those issues that are most relevant to us without having to reestablish those things considered basic and fundamental to us.

Yes - this is the place for Church of Christ ;)
as well as Christian Churches and Disciples of Christ.

This is the place for Church of Christ alright. Welcome Kenpo, and I hope all your posting and reading here will be blessed.

Mama always said, "trouble is as trouble does." I reckon mama was a wise lady. The congregations are meant to be sort of a home turf of peace, tranquility, and a gathering of all black polo shirted people or just some guy in a biker jacket into one club. If you debate someone wearing a Greek-vested shirt, for example, who just so happens to carry their Bible in their right hand, it might get ugly. We require that none of your parts be lost from where they belong, and, while debating can be both an enjoyable and profitable exercise, it is best done where it is expected (like General Theology or Christian Apologetics), and not where Restorationists might seem improperly dressed according to various other congregational standards. ;)

I guess I was wrong about the debate thing I guess there are other places but not in the congregations.

In any case I don't really want to debate, but I didn't want to break any rules either.

We are Church of Christ but we do use musical instruments,. Additionally about half of the Church disagrees with the other half about baptism.
