If you're interested in learning why the Churches of Christ are the way they are, then you ought to take a peek at this book.

Its amazing to me how a couple of people with strong personalities and a knack for writing can shape an entire generation of people and subsequent generations to come.

Its also very interesting to see a lot of the same rhetoric and arguments used on this very forum that originated back in the 1800s or early 1900s.

That is a great book. Interesting that the split between the restoration churches - CofC and ICC/DofC happened primarily because of the civil war. Much of the doctrinal issues, ESPECIALLY the instrumental music issue, came about through justifying the split.

It's always good to step back and look where you came from, to understand why things are the way they are. I bet the original restoration movement guys would be shocked at where their movement sits today, and not in a good way.

I believe we probably ought to stop caring about what those men would think and start worrying more about what Jesus thinks.
