So I think we're moving to Chicago .
Right now my husband and I go to an ELCA church, and I hope that we can attend one after we move. I googled ELCA churches in Chicago and there are a ton. I'm a little lost and if anyone is from the area I would greatly appreciate any recommendations.
As for our church, We really like it. I like the liturgical aspect but that our particular church has a "praise band" so the music is a bit more contemporary sounding and easy to sing along too.
Our pastor is very kind and down to Earth and gives beautiful (but not too long) sermons, and the church has lots of programs in place to help the needy. So needless to say, I really like my church and will be sad to leave. I think my husband and I (my husband especially) would probably be more comfortable in a more contemporary Lutheran church kind of like we attend now. Any tips would be awesome. I'm going to ask my pastor too if he knows of any ELCA churches in Chicago.

Hi. Progressive. Sounds like you are glad to be moving to the “Windy City”.
Any idea where you will be living? Chicago and its “burbs” are a massive area.
The good news is where ever you plant yourself you will have a great many ELCA churches to choose from. You pick your style of worship and I am sure you will find a church that suits your needs.
If you didn’t already know, the ELCA is based in Chicago and its has a very large seminary here also.
I live in Aurora, one of the far west suburbs and have attended services at 4 different ELCA churches. Each with its own distinctive flavor.
If you are going to be in this area I would be glad to give you more details.

Sorry, I know nothing about the ELCA in Chicago except that it's headquartered there and Lutheran Theological Seminary at Chicago is there. I also know that I think LTSC would be my first choice in seminaries if God is calling me to school before marriage (uncertain in that one, even though there is no special guy at the moment.)

You really need to narrow down where you will be living and then check the ELCA Web site church locator.

For example, if you're in Northbrook and want to attend a church in Naperville, you'll be driving at least an hour and 15 minutes one way.
