Look at the photos under the "Feb 9-11 - Jordanville, NY" listing. First of all, it's great that ROCOR is participating in this inter-seminary event. Secondly, the seminary and church are *beautiful*. And thirdly, check out photo #12 - that guy wins "icon-worthy beard" contest, hands down.

I almost went to that, but had to be in Philly for a choir trip. I really was pretty upset that I didn't get to go. Everyone said it was such an amazing time. And they were treated very hospitably. It was really great that they hosted it this time. It really shows the bonds that are being formed between jurisdictions. One of their hierodeacons actually visits St. Tikhon's several times a semester.

Elias is awesome. He's a living Saint. How do you know him?

Jordanville has some nice monks. It is an enclave unto itself, though. It's very much "19th century Russia" there, but many of the people were charming.

Father Michael spoke quite a bit about Elias when he visited our parish. And the very hard work he will have when he returns to Uganda.

Well, we're sort of a "home parish" for him.
I sort of remember when he came here some years ago. He was doing a lot of work and odd jobs for people in the parish and we needed help with this bit of hill in our yard which was too rocky for the lawnmower so Elias, my dad, my brother and I worked all day weed wacking this chunk of yard.
Since that year, he's been visiting us for, I believe, many of his breaks from seminary. People in the church have opened their homes to him and really have helped him out.
Last time I saw him, was during Christmas and New Years and heard that he should be graduating seminary this year and returning to Uganda. Hopefully he'll visit us and hopefully we can all keep in touch.

I also met Elias and Photius. They are wonderful and humble persons. Uganda will be very blessed to have them back. I also thank Uganda for lending them to us for a couple years. When I lived in New Jersey, they would visit our parish during some of festal seasons.
