As a 50 year male who has changed careers 4 times since I left collage I would suggest that you do not need to decide your life career at this time. You do need to start setting your course load to gear to your gifts and talents. First and foremost get in to a bible based church and get involved in church activities. There is much to learn about a church that does not need to come from a book. There are also many careers that have nothing to do with a formal role in the church that give you the opportunity to wittiness and minister to people.
Pray. Ask God where you should go. He will guide you in many ways. When you pray, listen for his answer, and act upon it when it comes. It may come in the form of a desire in you, or an opportunity offered, or the words of you high school guidance councilor, or a teacher. Pray for guidance and pray for his approval of your choices .

I agree with BustedFlat (although I don't have quite as long of a life experience ;)). Start with prayer. Ask God for direction. "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5) Don't forget to spend time reading God's Word, the Bible. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." (Psalm 119:105) God will speak to us through His Word. "Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law." (Psalm 119:18) Get involved in a Bible-teaching church. A church that isn't afraid to share the whole counsel of God as revealed in His Word. "For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God." (Acts 20:27) Don't forget through all this to pray. "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7)

Hi, I a, not completely sure if i am in the right forum for this, but i have an important question to ask. for the past week, i have been very distressed about my future. in high school, we're all highly pressured to choose a lifetime carreer. im now a junior and for the past 3 years ive been looking for something/anything that sounds right for me. i am not very smart (book smart) but i do have a lot of common sense and i care deeply for people. ive always tried to tell my friends about Jesus and i want everyone to know him and be saved. today, the perfect thing hit me. i decided i want to be a pastor. i would love nothing more than to preach the Bible in a nondenominational church, or anywhere. but i dont have the best speaking skills, and i dont go to church regularly--only sometimes to different churches w/ friends. i feel inadequate because ive never been part of a youth group or church setting. it is making my stomach ache because i need to teach others about god and jesus, and i think that it is my calling. how should i approach this?
Why do you want to charge people for sharing the gospel with them ? Can't you do those things besides having a job to earn a living ?

If you're interested in checking out the daily life of a pastor, go to one and ask him what a typical week is like, what studying in school for it was like, and trying to find a church to work in. You may find out there's a whole lot more involved in it than just preaching a Sunday sermon.

Also, depending on the church, it is also quite possible that the pastor may have to have another job to pay the bills. Not every pastor is able to get a salary that they can live on (if at all).

Our pastor has a regular full-time job, but we do give him a salary each week as well. We wanted to increase it at one point but he refused.
Some people would even be suspect if the pastor was doing it just for the $$$. I heard a story once that a church was looking for a new pastor. One applied and the first question he asked at the interview was "So how much is the salary here?"... the interview ended promptly at that point...

There are those who really ahere to the pauline epistiles statements about a woman not leading or teaching men. Of course, there are churches that reject that for various reasons - like no man coming up to stand in the gap.

being a wife and mother is one way of spreading Jesus too, if that is God's calling for you. but that is not prestigious career. just don't forget :) being a parent is very fulfilling, rewarding, and loving.
in the U.S., you can get through a bit of college without actually knowing what exactly you are going for, but just try to start out taking classes you enjoy or have interest in, and take it from there, and continue in prayers and being led of God, and keep in daily Bible studies too following Jesus.
