Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums. My wife, rainbowbright, finally talked me in to signing up. So - here I am!

I look forward to getting to know folks and contributing to the discussions.

You had me singing the Rolling Stones when I saw the tag line, "please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and fame..." I guess that both dates me, and demonstrates the powerful grip of pop-culture on my life.
All that aside, I hope you enjoy yourself here at CF and particularly here at TAW.
Peace,
Eusebios

Welcome to TAW!

How come you're not wearing any clothes?

Is that optional here, now? ^_^

Nah, just took a few minutes to get everything equipped while juggling the kiddos.

Or I could say - I am too wearing clothes! Skivvies are technically clothes! You can't prove nothin! I was nowhere near the forum at the time!

Thanks! As a Japanophile, he really was the obvious choice for a favorite saint, avatar, and so forth. Next time I'm in Tokyo, I really want to get to ニコライ堂. May be a while, though - I really only have much reason to go to the Kinki, Kansai and Chugoku regions as opposed to the Kanto.

Since you're a fellow Japanophile, I should have welcomed you properly.

初めましてニコライですよろしくお願いします日本語が話せますか

I'd love to go visit ニコライ堂。 Me and a buddy of mine want to go do a mission trip in one of our summers away from St. Tikhon's. And I'm debating doing JET when I get done here, just to do it. Cause if I don't go there by the time I'm 30, I'll probably never get there. And for a Japanophile, the thought of never acctually going to Japan is a sad thought. lol

????????????????????????????????????????I highly recommend JET - I actually got a spot in JET but had to turn it down due to the twins coming along. I'm now angling for a spot with NOVA if I can swing it (and if my lovely wife is still willing to go along with it!). If you haven't already (but I suspect you have) I suggest you read St. Nikolai Kasatkin and the Orthodox Mission in Japan (Divine Ascent Press) - it's a good one!

Sounds like we'll have a lot to talk about!

edit - Looks like the Japanese text didn't make it through for some reason. Looked fine in the preview!

NOVA is probably gonna be by backup if I can't get a spot on JET. My buddy here at seminary did a year with NOVA and told me what to expect. His biggest complaint was the apartment, but he said the apartment is easier to live in if you're married (no roommates that way).

Several times. I'll just pick it up randomly sometimes and start reading. I always love to read more about Him, as he is my patron Saint (in case you didn't guess that already). It's just too bad that most of his writings and writings about him are in Japanese (which I don't know very well), and they're in that 100 year old form of Japanese at that.

If we go, we'll have to get our own place (and I'll need a second job!) due to the family size. Still - at least they don't actively discourage folks with families like AEON does.

Given your avatar, name, and signature, I kinda figured that one out... :holy: Something that might help with stuff written prior to the language standardization that the Occupation put through would be if you can find an old copy of The Japanese-English Character Dictionary. I inherited my grandfather's copy (he was there during the Occupation and some time thereafter in the Army Air Corps/Air Force) and it has some of the older forms of kanji and whatnot. At least the Meiji-era stuff is easier than classical! The main differences are more in the kanji, and if you can muddle through the modern stuff you should be able to get through the late 1800s language at, oh, around 85% - 90%. I took a crack at both during college, so I speak from some experience.

Welcome to TAW! I know how getting that first character puts a hole in your pocket, so I've sent some blessings your way. I used to work on the Support Team and I've been around for a little over a year, so if there's any way I can help you out just send a PM my way. By the looks of things you've got it all figured out, though. Oh well, the offer stands.

Hope you enjoy your time with us!

Thanks everyone for all the great welcome! Sorry to have fallen off the face of the earth recently... Got a new computer and started playing World of Warcraft again... It's a miracle I made it to work, much less anything else!

But I've fed my MMORPG addiction for now, so I'm back.
