Catechumens opinion: Scripture, Tradition, and prayer are the keys to God-consciousness. It doesn't need to be entwined with new age teachings, and the site lost me when they categorized the Christ with mystics.

Had too much of a New Age/Protestant/Mystic look to it.
Orthodox know not what "new" is!

Calling Jesus Christ a messenger of God is a red flag.
Stay away.
Jesus Christ is true God and true Man. He is the Eternal Word of God.

But the site has quote from St. Teresa of Avila, a Catholic Saint.
If I were to spend years and years imagining how to invent anything so beautiful, I could not do it, and I do not even know how I should try, for, even in its whiteness and radiance alone, it exceeds all that we can imagine. (Saint Teresa of Avila)

That means nothing.
The Mormons use the Bible, but does that mean they worship the same Christ as the rest of Christianity? No.
The site is not Orthodox and most likely not even Christian.
If it harms the soul, stay away.

Beware of reading the doctrines of heretics for they, more than anything else, can equip the spirit of blasphemy against you. -- Saint Isaac the Syrian

I would stay away from sites such as those. Why bother to read the lies of the Enemy?

I love that quote. Heck, I love that saint. If we ever have another boy, God willing, this will be his saint, for he truly was an amazing servant of God.

I am now copying this quote somewhere so I can remember it.

Sathya Sai Baba, presented as a "man of miracles and wonder" by that site, is actually a sexual molester. Many of his male devotees claim that he rubbed oil on their genitals to awaken Kundalini energy. None of his miracles have been verified by science, and he has neglected to perform his miracles under controlled circumstances, so that seems quite suspect.

Were the real miracles that Jesus performed verified by science?

Please read Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future by Fr Seraphim Rose. He has alot to say about all this new age junk. Anything that offers "enlightment" is not of God.

The Wisdom of Christ and the illumination of His gospel is enlightenment.

I'm not sure you understand the term "enlightment" as it is used by the New Age community. Most New Age and pagan belief systems teach that through meditiation, chanting or various other techniques, one can open the mind and harness energy to make things happen. These things are common in yoga practice, tai-chi, Budhist meditation, Wiccan circle rituals, the chanting of the names of the Hindu god "Krishna", ect. Sure, amazing things can happen, but they do not come from our Lord, Christ Jesus. As a former practioner of many pagan religious practices, I KNOW that the site you linked to is NOT of God.

Orthodox do NOT recognize Catholic saints. I do not know how to get it through to you. We are in no way connected to Rome. We excommunicated "the pope and all of his followers" in 1054. What the Catholics do is their business, but we do not recognize their sacraments, their priests or their saints.

Not even St. Padre Pio?

Not even St. Padre Pio?
Even Padre Pio. While it is possible that God works through individuals that are not in the Church, the Church does not recognize people outside of the Church. Padre Pio was a Catholic, not an Orthodox Christian.

Not even St. Padre Pio?
First of all, Padre Pio was not yet canonized by Rome. And no, there aer no exceptions to that rule. As Kamikat says we know which people God works through within the Church, but we do not know where God works outside of the Church and thus can not recognize them as saints.

For the LAST time, Catholic does not equal Orthodox Christian. They are not synonymous of each other. I would almost say they are more the antithesis of each other than the synonyms of each other.

Catholicism right here and............................................................................................................................................................................................. Orthodoxy is over here
Separate! Not the same! Anything done in Catholicism after 1054 is not Orthodox! This includes saints, doctrines, dogmas, practices etc etc!
(if this shows up right, than they'll be on opposite sides of the post)

The Great Fast is just round the corner now - hopefully his priest will tell him to forget the internet and concentrate on what he, Father, has told him to look at during the Great Fast

I agree with Anhelyna. :)
Also....The only reason I can think of to look at such sites is for research. For example, you want to portray a New Age fictional character accurately, or you're writing an apologetics piece a la Irenaeus. (To do that right, you have to know your theology backwards and forwards.) If you're looking on the Web for something religious to believe in, stay away from such websites and concentrate on the websites of the Orthodox jurisdictions (such as http://www.oca.org (http://www.oca.org/) or http://www.goarch.org (http://www.goarch.org/)).

The site reminds me a great deal of the sort of syncretic mish-mash that many of the New Age folk I used to associate with held dear. Not really worth the time, I think.
-or-
Looking at that site took 35 seconds away from my life, and I WANT THEM BACK!
I agree with those who say it raises red flags - something to stay away from lest your mind and faith start to become mushy.

What is enlightenment? What is that state of Cosmic Consciousness, the ultimate awareness called variously - enlightenment, nirvana, satori, samadhi, self-realization, rapture, salvation, ascension, unity consciousness, voidness, and many other terms by many various religions? It is the goal of life, the ultimate destination of every individualized being. It is brought about when the individual personality ascends beyond the illusionary perception of self separateness to merge in the Universal Self from which it originated so very long ago. Spiritual evolution towards this goal takes place over ages but the final ascent of Spirit can happen in an instant of time.
This statement is false. "enlightenment" is not ascension but a descending of the nous into the heart. Also it is not an escape from an illusionary self, but the opposite.
This is a very special time during which spiritual evolution is being immensely accelerated.
This is in opposition to the teachings of the Church. According to St. Gregory of Nyssa and St. Maximus, evolution has nothing to do with it. If one is delving into this stuff, one should carefully read their writings.
Powerful beings are working behind the veil with all who are consciously cooperating to change Earth and bring us into a radically new pattern of human attainment.
the true God and His saints are working for something else, and it is already evident and testified to.
Never before have even small efforts on the spiritual path been so greatly rewarded. So do not miss this rare opportunity - it may not come again for a long time.

If you are looking on the web for something to believe in, I think you are looking in the wrong place. The right place is inside an Orthodox Church.
