I went to bed at midnight and I felt as if I was going insane all night, I didn't even get one second of light sleep! At 7:00 am EST I was litterally crying that I couldn't sleep. So here I am at 8:00 am, extremely tired, but unable to sleep!

what can I do

Next time pray and read your Bible. I've heard of several people saying if they had sleeping problems doing one or both of those makes them fall asleep.

Prayer, and reading can usually help you go to sleep.

Always go to bed before 10 PM, and always get up before 9 AM, no matter what (you will need to take up drinking coffee, soda, or orange juice in the morning for quite some time). I had this problem for a while (still dealing with it), because hormones screw up older teenager's sleep schedules. The best thing to do is stick to a schedule (made the mistake of sleeping whenever I wanted to between high school and college).

Also, a little exercise helps. I pace the house for a while before going to bed.

Learn to breathe through your nose, if you don't already. Take a few mouth breaths, then a nose breath, a few mouth breaths, and so on. When you're comfortable with that, lessen the amount of mouth breaths, and repeat until you're breathing through your nose. Do this throughout the day, not just when you're trying to sleep.

Just so you know, it's not good to exercise before going to bed because it stretches your muscles and your muscles should be relaxed before going to sleep.

Then get it done well before going to bed.

Well Richard, if you want to abate your sleeping problems, you'll have to grow up.

No, I mean that literally. Many people your age have random insomnia attacks. It's just something that happens to people who approach the college age. College-aged people seem to operate on a different sleeping cycle than everyone else. They go to sleep later, and wake up later. Alas, the rest of the world sleeps at 11 pm and gets up at 7 am. So there's really not too much you can do except wait to get older.

I thought I was just getting old enough to get back to sleeping on a regular schedule (I slept really well during finals week). But now, I'm back to sleeping at 3 in the morning, and getting up at 11. As long as you're stuck this way, just try to build your schedule around the way your body likes to sleep. When you go to college, take late classes. Get your homework done in the evening. And read the Bible at night, which is probably when you'll be the most alert.

I had the same problem before classes started, but living with my new roommate, I've adapted to a new schedule. Go to sleep before 11 and wake up at 8.

Or have a few kids. Nothing I've found works better than that.
