Here are some insightful remarks from the "leader" of the United Church of Canada.
"I don't believe Jesus was God, but I'm no theologian."
"I have no idea if there is a hell. I don't think Jesus was that concerned about hell."
"Your soul is lost unless you care about people starving in the streets."
"I don't believe Jesus is the only way to God. I don't believe he rose from the dead as scientific fact. I don't know whether those things happened. It's an irrelevant question."

I wonder, has this man ever picked up a Bible?

What's wrong with taking just enough from the Gospel to give one's pseudosocialist politics moral significance and dumping the rest so we're left with a works-based theology? ;)

Crossing another church off my list of potential churches to visit should I ever visit Canada.

People starving on the street...
gee, that's a good thing in North America, where obesity is the leading contribution to health problems among the poor. way far more prevalent than HIV.

Yep, this kind of thing is happening more and more in our churches, not even just the United. Frankly, it turns my stomach.

Church as social services agency, rather spiritual institution. Bad, bad, bad theology.

Sure seems doubtful. This kind of stuff always shocks me, but then the Bible does warn of these kinds of decievers. The sad part is how many will be led astray, but their Bible warns them clearly.
1 John 2:22-26
22Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

I am going to be too busy to be around for awhile.
One reason is that my Church seems to be going the way of a social services organization. Sunday school is now touting Tony Campolo as "one of the greatest theologians of our time" and the pastor misquoted Scripture from the pulpit to try and push the "unconditional love" motif. Never mind the "repent" part.
I am very worried about this "new non-judgemental direction" of my local Church.

Hope God has everyone back on track quickly. At least you are aware of what is going on. Some allow themselves to be decieved so easily. Saying a prayer for you and your church.
