A couple of my other threads were based on some of the opinions / teachings of the two Drs above. They are both professors at Liberty University and Dr Towns is the Dean of the School of Religion.
What is the general view of these two men? Do most hold them in high regard? Are they considered way out there or right on? Any weird or odd statements / stories about them?
Just trying to get a general consensus.
God Bless!

Being a Liberty grad and having been around those two men I first want to say that both men love the Lord and have a great desire to grow others in their faith.
Dr. Towns isn't a very academic. He tends to focus on practical and applicational things (search for his books on Amazon.com...over half deal with fasting or sunday school growth).
Dr. Hindson is a very hardworking man. He didn't come from a very wealthy home and worked his way through college and now has seven degrees. I respect him very much for that. The only thing that one would really need to know about Dr. Hindson is that he focuses alot on biblical prophecy. He is a staunch premil, pretrib dispensationalist.
Just remember that these two men can be classified in the fundamentalist camp of conservative theology.

I'm not very familiar with either of these men, per se, but I do have Mr. Towns book: "Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough." And it is very good.
God Bless

Yeah, I'm not familiar with either of them. I have a very sizeable theological library and I don't think I own any books by either of them, though if you have some suggestions I'll look into and consider them.

Other than their affiliation with Liberty, I do know they were both on one of the committees for the the NKJV when that was developed.
They both have written a ton of books. I think, as someone already said, Dr Hindson is well known in End Times circles.

I took Dr. Towns' Church Growth class at Liberty through the distance learning program, and watched him on video for 27 hours. I cannot say that I agreed with him 100% of the time, because as was said above- he is more practical than academic. He made a couple of mistakes in theology in our class, but nothing major. His ideas on church growth are often misunderstood to be racist, yet that is not the case. I do not agree with some of his precepts of church growth, but think he has some great ideas at the same time. If you're looking to see if he's a cook- he's not. He's a devout man of God in the independent Baptist congregation, and while he is not perfect- remember, none of us are.

Well I would be interested in reading some of the works. By the comments of several here that Dr. Towns is not very academic I decided to avoid him for now, because I am, and I get annoyed at bad or neglectful scholarship.
I looked into Hindson and I found several of his books are co-authored with Tim LaHaye - :sigh: . I'm not a LaHaye fan at all (though I am dispensational). But I'll keep looking and find something of Hindsons I can pick up and work through.

The only books of theirs I have read are their textbooks. I, too, have been watching them via DLP for 20+ hours. I enjoy Dr Towns' class better as he is a bit more light hearted where as Dr Hindson is all business and often gets side tracked.
I have not gotten the impression that Dr Towns is a coook, nor that Dr Hindson is either. But, I had to ask to see if others had some other info I was not privy to. They both seem to know what they're talking about and I have not seen anything outlandish or even wrong.
Thanks everyone!
