This area of Orthodoxy has always interested me. Probably above a lot of other ideas. I'm just wondering, what is your 'birth name', or your regular name, and your 'church name' or 'saint name', or do you use your Saint name in everyday life, outside of church?

By "Church name" is is not asking the name of your church - he is asking your baptismal name.

Rhett - Jude
And people at church use them interchangably. Sometimes, I'm "Hey Jude". I swear...I was born with a name that gets lots of one-liners, and now I've taken a name that gets 'em, too.

My real name is Jennie and my church name is Xenia. Some people call me Jennie at church, some call me Xenia and some call me Jennie-Xenia. I answer to all. Soon I'll be officially Jennie Xenia Helena ... I'm taking my paperwork to the Circuit Court tomorrow (note: there is no requirement to change your name officially, I just really like my church name)

At first he said around Theophany but do to Fr. Johns busy schedule as of late (new mission in tyler, spanish liturgies etc etc) it will be later so he does not have to do short cuts in class. All he has said now is Pascha or before

I have a Biblical name that happens to have a day that is celebrated by the Church, so no need for different names.

I was baptised James (as a Protestant) and as there are more than a few Sts. James I chose one of those to be my patron (specifically St. James the Persian) when I was Chrismated, so I'm James in both situations. Interestingly, my cradle Orthodox children aren't normally known by their saints' names outside of Church, but then that's quite common in the Romanian tradition, where you'll fairly often find children baptised with double names, e.g. Traian-Ioan, where one is the patron saint's name and the other is the name they're commonly known by.

Christopher,
Christopher
Though it tends to be Chris in either case.
I do like it in the Greek spelling: Χριστοφερ
It means 'Bearer of Christ'.
I haven't had to choose a church name yet, though, everyone knows I'll stick with my birth name.

BTW, the screen name 'ramesses'.
I had budgies at one time, and the first one was called 'Ramesses I'
The next one, 'Ramesses II', then 'Ramesses III'
Ramesses I flew away :(
Ramesses III was rescued and didn't last long :(
Ramesses II died fairly recently.
I don't think we'll have a Ramesses IV
The Ramesses was a title name,
The first one was called 'Harry', the next was 'Franco' and the other was 'Augustas-Luigi' :D

Baptismal Name - Silouan
My parents call me Tommy even though they gave me the name Dwayne. Everyone outside of my family in the world calls me Dwayne. I find it weird and uncomfortable if they call me Tommy. I've had that nickname since I was born & it only feels right when my family calls me that. It goes back & forth at Church with what people call me. They either call me Dwayne or Silouan.
