I didn't see the movie, so I pretty much had to rely on what the author of this article said as to its contents. In summary, the author seems to basically be saying that "my institution's extra-biblical notions are better than your institution's extra-biblical notions". Yes, he does call them "extra-biblical". Can anyone see the irony here? Perhaps a case of the pot calling the kettle black? Dare I postulate that the only "notions" that matter are the biblical ones?

I did see "The Nativity Story," and I thought it was good, but not great. I would probably rate it a B-/C+. There is a fair amount of "dramatic license" taken, but I think that most of it only detracts from the beauty of the story of Christ's birth. There's really not very much "drama" in it. "Jesus of Nazareth" is still my favorite for depicting Jesus' life, from birth to ascension. My advice it to wait for it on video.

Fr. Eric Forbes critique of the movie is, well, obviously Catholic. I had never heard that they think Mary suffered no pain in childbirth, but considering some of the other stuff they believe about Mary, I guess it's not surprising. My reaction to that particular critique is to file it in the "Catholic file," and go on to other matters.
