View Full Version : My Dream about Pope Benedict

I am a prolific dreamer when I sleep; this one was interesting:

I was in my childhood bedroom. Pope Benedict stopped in to have a meeting with me. He was alone, and was wearing all white with the little round cap on his head. He moves the dresser away from the wall and uses it as a desktop of sorts and starts talking to me about obedience. I am kneeling on something at this dresser top while he teaches. He takes a piece of chalk and starts writing on the wall about scriptures and such [wish I could recall what was written]. He tells me how thoughts of disobedience are like a fly that buzzes around and then lands on my head; that I can't let the fly land on my head. He leaves shortly after. I go tell my father in the next room; he's in there dressing in some medieval costume for unknown reasons. I mentioned that the Pope had stopped by and was teaching me some things and my father got angry and said that if I believe what the Pope says I have to believe everything because he's never wrong and thinks he's God and I say "No, you aren't understanding about the Pope correctly" but he walks out and I wake up.

I thought it was pretty cool, not everyone gets a private teaching lesson from the Pope, and no, I didn't kiss a ring, but then he didn't offer it;) .

(My father was raised Catholic though it wasn't anything he ever talked about)

What do you think the dream meant?

I long gave up interpreting these things...it was a very pleasant dream.

For whatever reason I don't have nightmares, but often my dreams are just boring...sometimes I wake up and think, "what was the point of that?" :)

On the surface it might mean I should read some of Papa Ben's books?

What an interesting dream!

It's interesting that you dreamed that the pope wanted to teach you about obedience and it's even more interesting that he used the analogy of a fly trying to land on your head.

Can you imagine what it's like to have a fly keep trying to land on your head and it's your responsibility to keep the fly from landing!? Even if you had great stamina, after a few hours, you would be exhausted and the fly would land on your head while your arms would be too tired to chase it away. If obedience is about keeping annoying things away, then no one can practice obedience, because anything done by our human efforts will fail us.

And if I understand Catholicism correctly (I make no claims about understand Catholicism correctly, by the way), salvation depends somewhat on human effort, so this dream would seem to have something to do with you having a subconcious understanding that Catholicism has teachings and rules that are impossible to do, from human effort.

The pope, I think, not only represents the Catholic church, but also authority figures in your life. Who is the authority figure who wants you to do something that is beyond your ability? Maybe your boss (is he/she Catholic?)? You do seem to have an unreasonably strenuous work schedule that would be very tiring, like trying to keep a fly from landing on your head.

The other authority figure in your dream is your dad, who contradicts everything the pope tells you. Has your dad been trying to tell you something about your job or your boss that goes opposite what your boss says? I don't know...

The medieval dress and the pope's all white costume makes me think of the reformation. I don't know how that fits into your dream, so maybe it really means something else to you?

I took a lot of psychology in college, but I'm not guaranteeing that this is a correct interpretation. Only the dreamer really knows the interpretation of any dream. An interpretor can only suggest. :)

 Ya really think so? That I have to interpret? Do you think dreams really mean anything?

Pretty cool interpretation btw...my thought tend more towards trying to eventually kill the fly, but that may be taking the spirit of the dream in a different direction...

I think most of the time, our dreams are trying to tell us something. Maybe it's something we don't want to think about when we are awake, or something we don't have the time and quiet to think about when we are awake.

Dreams are rich with symbols, colors, figures, situations that in some ways echo what we are dealing with in real life. Sometimes you might have to think about them for a while, but I know people who become very good at interpretting their dreams and getting valuable information from them.

I once had a patient who was about to get married to a man she adored. But she kept having nightmares about him, always in a room that was dark or where things were thinly hidden under rugs or blankets. Once she started looking for an interpretation, she realized that she felt like her guy was hiding something from her, and she asked him if there was something she needed to know before the wedding. He finally confessed that he had been hiding the fact that he had been molested as a child and feared that it would affect their love life and any children they might have. They ended up calling off the wedding so that he could go into intensive therapy. Eventually, his therapist helped them see that the guy had serious problems that would have been made worse with the pressures of a new marriage. If she had not had the dreams and paid attention to them, she would have been making an awful mistake.

I believe that any vivid dream that you remember when you wake up is probably important. Maybe not life and death important, but important nonetheless.

I generally remember each dream when I wake up; I usually wake up a couple times during the night and nearly always from a dream that I can recall at that moment...guess I've got a busy mind?

I've been told I should write them down immediately when I wake up, but HA that'd be all I'd get done. I just enjoy them mostly, except when they are just boring...

It's funny, when I know I am dreaming, my dream just sort of stalls. Suddenly, all the characters stop doing whatever they were doing and the action stops. It's like a movie that lost it's director. Everyone stands around looking at me to tell them what to do next. :D

On December 26th at approximately 3:30 in the a.m., I dreamed that I was still married to my ex-husband and there was this person that likes me hanging around, but I only like him as a friend. My ex-husband was always at the computer and his hygiene was not taken care of. He really grossed me out so I slept with the children instead of with him. I fell asleep in my dream and felt the Holy Spirit levitated me and I was thrown into the back of a beat up one ton truck. I couldn't see the driver. The truck went really fast down the streets of a city that I didn't know. It went past this place that sold tomb stones. The truck drove on the sidewalk and I zoomed in a tomb stone that was outside for advertising. I was feeling very anxious at this point and then the truck stopped outside a building and there was a bunch of Messianic people outside singing a beautiful song I think it is called Baruch Haba. I wanted to be with them so bad but then I woke up.

Ha! I too had a dream about Pope Benedict! He was saying something about obedience too. I'm not sure what though.
