My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Christ is in our midst!
Just an Orthodox though inspired by reading the life of St. Seraphim of Sarov: This is a thread devoted exclusively for those people whom we want to remember in prayers; therefore, no debating is allowed.
Since St. Seraphim even prayed for muslims, jews, atheists and all Christians - Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Protestants, in this thread we will be praying for all the living, excluding no one in need of prayer. It will be easy to edit (just add new friends and additions to the family or delete the names of those who have recently fallen asleep in the Lord and place their names in the list of the departed). Remember you only need to list their first names.

Grant that they may have mercy, life, peace, health, salvation and visitation, and pardon and remission of sins; that they may ever praise and glorify Thy Holy Name.
Be mindful, O Lord, of those who travel by land, by sea, and by air; of the old and the young; the orphans and widows; the sick, the suffering, the sorrowing, the afflicted, the captives, and the needy poor; and upon them all send forth thy mercies, for thou art the Giver of all Good Things.
Be mindful, O Lord, of us, thy humble servants, grant us thy Grace, that we may be diligent and faithful; avoiding evil company and influence, resisting temptation; that we may lead a godly and righteous life, blameless and peaceful, ever serving Thee; that we may be accounted worthy to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.

As we in the process of commemorating the "decapente-augousto" period, the 15 days of august leading to the Feast Day of the Dormition of the Theotokos. we celebate the "Parakelsis of the Theotokos". For those that don't know greek, "Paraklesis" means comforting.
The Paraklesis is celebrating everyday during this period when we petition the Theotokos to comfort our family, friends, and neighbours.
Those attending Paraklesis services should submit as many names as possible.

I am asking for prayer, because my wife and I have our backs against the wall, and hope seems very dim right now. I work as a motor carrier for the Oregonian which was the only job I could find after being unemployed for 14 months. I gross about 595 a month, and out of that 595, I am using around 5 dollars a night to do the route, then I am paying around a $100 a month for power, another 230 for park rent, we live in a trailer park, and another 100+ toward the trailer itself, my wife's son is paying the rest of the trailer interest. We are having to spend 88 dollars a month alone on diabetic test strips. Another 12 dollars a month on my wife's Oregon health card. I do not have one.
My wife is disabled, she has had one adrenal gland removed and the other one is starting to go bad, which has triggered the diabetes. She also suffers from super high BP as a result of her adrenal problems. She had a stroke last November and has little use of her right side, plus it affected her eyesight and now she beginning to get cataracts. SSI has denied her twice, her doctor has ordered her not to work, and will not even allow her to walk outside. She has had to get a lawyer.
We are right on the edge if every goes right, will now things have begun to go wrong. We got cut back on food stamps because of my job, and now today my car's fuel pump may have gone out, which will cost something like $250 to get it fixed, which I need to get fixed because I use the car everynight to make the little money we get. But I do not have it, and I do not know what we are going to do. If I lose this job, there will be no cash to have a roof over our heads.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do? I am at my wits end now. This month I also have a 92 dollar car insurance bill that is due.
A couple of years ago when we moved into this trailer, both of us were working full time as Certified Nurses Aides. My wife lost her job because of health last summer, and in Dec of 2001 I was
fired (http://mywebpage.netscape.com/jeffnymanCNA/index.htm).

I received this e-mail:
This weekend I received some sad news. Last week our church president was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. They have given him (I believe) 3 months to a year to live. His wife is a wonderful soprano in my choir, and they have three children between 7 and 8 years old. So far, he seems very optimistic, and is putting his hope in the power of prayer.
Please pray for Stephen, his wife Rebecca, and their three children Mary, John and Peter. Every prayer is helpful.

Please remember me also. I went to the doctor yesterday...a long time I've been putting it off, because of severe cramping and spasms in my abdominal region, and passing blood from where blood isn't supposed to come. They will start tests next week to determine what it is. The doctor suspects colitis. I hope it will turn out to be nothing...or stress or something. Thanks.

As Photini said, please remember me also. I need to have a CT scan of my liver done because while I had an ultrasound done to determine that I have gallstones, they also found a small mass of tissue growing inside my liver. I will schedule my appointment tommorrow and hopefully when I have the scan done they will find it is what they suspect, a benign hemangioma.
Thank you. :(

TUZLA, April 1 (FENA) - Orthodox priest Jeremija and his son Aleksandar Starovlah, who were brought in by SFOR from Pale early Thursday morning, have undergone surgery, but remain in a difficult condition.
Tuzla University Clinical Centre spokesperson Amra Odobasic said that the father and son were admitted in a difficult condition, that their staff provided them emergency treatment, carried out complete diagnostics and a CT scan and afterwards operated on them.
"The patients are currently in intensive care and the situation is uncertain. They have sustained serious injuries and it is still too early to speak of the outcome and results of the surgery", Odobasic told FENA.

As some of you know I have been ill, and I guess it is serious but nothing much will happen until I qualify for the Oregon Health Plan. Right now my Creatinine clearance is 54, normal for males would be 97 to 137. The urologist told me at 30 the talk becomes dialysis. My bladder seems not to be functioning the way it should at all, I can not void, and right now there is no simple answer to why that is, like an enlarged prostrate gland. I have a foley catheter now, and so I feel somewhat ok now. Although I notice symptoms of impaired kidney function like itching. The urologist told me the tests to find out what is causing this can cost up to $50000.
So I ask your continued prayers for my health.

My car is totaled, the frame is bent, we got the tires replaced and it on the road, and the alignment made the car undrivable. We got it down to Les Schwab, where they looked at it, and it they identified over a $1000 in parts and they were honest enough to say that would not fix it as the frame is bent. Malona and I got that car a couple of years ago for $1200.
I owe around $500 to my boss for past repairs on it, as it is. When my net pay after the loan from my boss and the gas that it takes to run it comes to somewhere around maybe $400 a month. I am feeling we are swimming up the creek without a paddle now. Losing the route would leave us with no income at all.

An update on my uncle, Dale - He went in last week for another biopsy, and the hospital didn't have enough room! This is so frustrating, because his cat scan shows tumors in his lymph system, and he's lost weight, gotten weak, and is retaining fluid. Sometimes I wonder whether the hospital is just shuffling him aside because they've decided he's going to die anyway, and nobody has the guts to say so. (/rant)
My uncle Martin, whom I mentioned in another post, didn't have a mini-stroke after all; they found a brain tumor of some kind. He's in California and we're having some trouble keeping up with what's going on, but he may have had surgery on Thursday. Please remember him, too.

This was posted to the Orthodox Psalm Notes on Wednesday, Jan.
Dear Ones,
You might remember that my elderly parents live with me and my almost-15-year-old daughter. Dad has Alzheimers, and my mother is very frail with a bad heart, bad lungs and now she has bad kidneys too. She was in the hospital for a few days, and came home on Sunday, 1/2.
I went to work on Monday the third, took my daughter with me so that it would be easy to drive her to her history/literature class in the afternoon, and left my parents home. Around 4 pm, my mother called me at work to say that the paramedics had taken my father to the hospital. I guess his visiting nurse or the visiting dietician witnessed one of his panic attacks and called the paramedics. To make a long story short, on 1/13, I signed all the papers and had my dad put in a nursing home. It was very upsetting to me, as you can imagine.
Just as I was about to leave the office to pick dad up and take him to the nursing home last Thursday, my mother's cardiologist called me at work, and told me that my mother was at the end stages, and that in her opinion she had two week to two months. What an awful day. So, I cried some, right there in the office. Then I got myself together, talked to my boss about some time off, brought dad to the nursing home and signed all the papers, called my cousins/sisters from my cell phone and we all cried some, and came home to my mom and daughter.
The hospice people have been very nice, but I wish they weren't necessary. My mother is very positive and feisty. I asked her if she had just given up once my father was taken care of, and she told me absolutely not, but that her body has given up on her. I can see her failing a little more every day.
My father doesn't quite understand why he isn't living at home with us anymore. While he was in the hospital, he thought he was in a fine hotel with room service. Now that he's at the nursing home, he thinks he's taken a job far away and is working there doing odd jobs to support us. He likes it, but it tears me up to leave him every day.
I really need your prayers, as does my daughter. We are having a hard time of it. My parents, Ed and Bea, are not Orthodox, but please pray for a painless, blameless and peaceful end, and a good defense at the judgement seat of Christ. Please also pray that my daughter Elisabeth and I have the strength and the grace to be present in every way that my folks need as their lives wind down.
Please keep us all in your prayers. We need them.
Sincerely,
Denise in Savannah

Hello everyone,
Although the name says Carl the Copt, you are reading now Jeff the Finn writing this. I am begging your prayers for my wife Malona. She as I write this is in the I.C.U. at the hospital with super high Blood Presure and they are trying to lower it. It has been a very difficult half a year for us, and maybe Praise the Lord it may be coming to an end.

In a message I just received from Orthodox Psalm Notes:
Dear all,
My dad Michael was carried this afternoon to the hospital once more; he is diagnosed with upper respiratory tract infection and a mild stroke.
Please pray.
"that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; Ye also helping together by prayer for us"

1. My grandfather was recently admitted to a nursing home. He is confused and feels abandonned. Meanwhile, both mind and body continue to deteriorate.
2. My grandmother has moved in with my parents. She has had to sell her home, and has been giving away a lifetime's worth of memories because the space isn't there.
3. My parents have been moving stuff for days, and my father is exhausted from adding a room to the house over the past couple weeks.
4. My mother is frantic with worry over her parents. She overworks, trying to keep everyone happy. Trying to handle all aspects of these massive changes. She just came through high-risk surgery late last December, though, and should be doing little more than resting and light work.
Friends and acquaintances of TAW, I am deeply concerned about my family. They need prayer. Please remember Edward "Mac" and his wife Mary, as well as David and Diane, in your prayers.
Lord have mercy. :crosseo:

Dear ones,
I know a man in Christ who, because of the failing health of one of the priests in his parish, was asked on the Sunday of St John Climacus to become a deacon, so that eventually he can become a priest. His clergy asked him to consider ordination in the summer. This man is single, and although he had contemplated the monastic life, he had not yet arrived at a decision on this matter. Pray that it becomes clear to him whether he is to be tonsured and ordained this summer, or else, that the alternative becomes equally clear to him. He has asked all to pray that God's will be done, and surely, will appreciate your remembrance of him in your holy and God-pleasing prayers.
With love in Christ, and praying as well,
Julio

I ask for your continued prayers for my mom and for us. Please pray that all goes well with the move and my new job and that my parents accept the fact that we are leaving California.
Please pray for the healing of my mom and for the conversion of my entire family, especially my parents.

Please pray for Carlos who has advanced cancer and is dying. His family unfortunately don't want him to know how serious his condition is because he is schizophrenic and they believe he will become very depressed. He has not been to church or spoken to a priest for years and needs to use what little time he has left to prepare. The evil one is trying to take away that opportunity for reconciliation.

Please pray for me today that I may find my Parking Garage Access Card. I don't know where I lost it. It's not the finacial value, just the administrative hassle of getting another one that bugs me.

To let you know about my confrontation:
Things went well. I wanted to speak to him first so that I caould get his side ofthe story. While he still said somethings that I do not appreciate, the context was more of a discussion of views so I didn't feel it appropriate to ask for disciplinary action on a student who was being academic(if condemning) in an academic setting.

My friends,
we now have two weeks left in which to finish preparations for our move back to Australia from Greece. Our tickets are booked and paid for and our packing has begun, but there are still a great many things we need to get done and very little time to do them so we would greatly appreciate your prayers.
Our car needs to be sold. The dealer we had bought it from no longer exists, so when we had finished paying off our installments we didn't know where to go to get the car registration put in our name. Without an urgent need at the time we forgot about it and it is only now that we are chasing it down. Please pray that we are able to finalise this as we cannot sell the car until it is in our name.
We need to find someone to rent our apartment. Even if we close it up completely and shut off all power and heating (there is central heating for the entire building) we will still be required to pay 30% of what we would normally pay each month for "Common Area" costs such as heating oil and electricity for the lift and stair lighting as well as regular building maintenance. So it would be much better for us if someone was renting it. I still need to finish some repairs for water damage then paint the hall and kitchen before we leave.
We need to finish breaking down and packing the furniture we are taking with us and get it to the shipping company before Christmas. Most of our books are in boxes as are a lot of our clothes but we still have a lot left to pack.
Your prayers would be appreciated that we get all this done in time.
Oh, and once we get to Oz I need to find a job quickly :)

My mother has a large mass in her left breast. She is meeting with a surgeon this morning to decide what is going to happen now.
Some of you may remember that she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 2 years ago, and then fell and broke her neck 2 months later, and since then she has needed someone with her all the time. The medication has helped her Alzheimer's and the neck healed as well as 81-year-old bones can heal.
Now this. Please pray for her and all my siblings as we deal with this new situation.
