Plutonius, welcome to the forum. It gets like the Roman Forum around here sometimes. I do hope you're a bit thick skinned.;) It's always good to see fresh m.. um, ah, new vict... um, Members! Yeah, that's right, new members!:o :D (LOL)

Thanks, Angel, you really are an angel!

It was in the upper seventies today here in Lewiston. Thankfully, we had some rain last week. If this keeps up, the rain that is, it won't be so bad this summer. Otherwise, California is in deeeeep... um, trouble. Not much of a snow pack for summer water reserves.

Believe it or not, Lewiston is at the snow level in Northern California.

Shasta, one of our taller mountains, was covered with snow year round when I was a child. Now, it's bare to the summit by late June. Very strange... There is a glacier that's almost gone up there. In fact, most of the glaciers in California have vanished. We're just not getting the snow anymore. Kinda makes one take another look at the 'Global Warming' thing.

I miss St. Louis.

I spent a couple of July's there. I loved it!!
I was at the 4th of July fireworks under the arch in '01. That was the largest crowd of people I have ever seen in one place. It took us three hours to get home... in Clayton!!!

Last time we were there in the summer was coming up on 3 years ago. Took in a little of the convention, visited the son who was interning at CPH, and a bit of sightseeing. Younger son and I walked over to the arch and it was rather warm! Ahh, memories!! All good other than the heat.

Time before that was a number of years ago, in the Ozarks. Going to try to get down there in about October this year. Won't be as hot and humid then.

Sweltering in St. Lou? How about 120 and 80% in Redding, CA? We hit this four times last year. Crikey! I'd get out of the car and just about melt like a cheap sno-cone!:help: :swoon: You go bare-foot in Redding and you're risking second and third degree burns on your feet. I'm serious! the man-hole covers are dangerous! You can almost hear the trees crisp. And people around here(in Lewiston) ask me why I don't move to Redding...

Well, spring has sprung. The first butterflys have made their appearance. I noticed a type I've never seen before. They're barely 1/2 inch across and they have 1/8th inch orange spots in the centre of each wing. Just a tiny little brown butterfly that's really neat!:) I really like butterflys, they're one of the nicer gifts we recieve from the Lord.

There's been a considerable increase of ruby throated hummingbirds this year too. There's six regulars to my porch that have become downright tame. I like hummingbirds too.:) Another of the nicer gifts.

The temperature has been about perfect today. I've opened up the house to allow the fresh air in and the frusty air out. Forgive me, I feel like a song:

With things like Easter (wonderful) then a trip for an anniversary which kicks off a very hectic 10 days (which includes the youngest's high school graduation) I thought I would put something up that is relaxing to the eyes for now.

We barely made it to 40 and have the threat of rain or snow. Guess I live too far north.

Porterross. A buddy of mine and I used to spend our weekends at the new roads they would cut through the cliffs and search through the different layers looking for fossils like trilobites and such.

One time we were sitting in the jeep and just talking with another friend and looking at our find. I had a bag of Planters peanuts and was sitting in the back seat munching on them and decided to play a trick on them. I found a whole roasted nut and sucked off the salt and gave it to them with the rest of my "find" and asked them what it was. They gave me all kinds of wierd answers like maybe it was a tiny dinosaur egg. When I finally told them what it was they decided that maybe they would leave me there and I could walk home :)

The 3 worst parts are 1) getting it caught in car doors, 2) having people sit on it when you're sitting down on a couch and 3) having the back of the neck get all knotted when wearing a winter coat!

My boys are really into the Wii (ages 17 & 24), actually, they have all the Nintendo systems.

Now I hope that anyone who has hair long enough when they cut it off, donates it to Locks of Love.

Mine is getting worked on as the moniter has an annoying thing it does and since it is a laptop, the whole thing goes in.

My son thought I was completely nuts...we didn't allow any video games as our kids were growing up. No xbox or handheld...nothing! :swoon: Somehow he survived, but when he headed off for college, along with his books, a gamecube was his first purchase. My daughter has already gone through one Dance Pad (the up key went bad) and is on her second. I don't want to ruin her second one since it was a birthday gift from her aunt, so I stay off it. Not that I ruined the first one...she and her friends put a lot of hours on it last summer!

Nah, you weren't mean. We didn't imply that at all. I just have one daughter...so we have money to spend on her. Also, I grew up with an Atari, and enjoyed time spent with my family playing the games. I wanted that closeness for my family now and sometimes that happens which is great :)

porterross
20th March 2007, 03:04 PM
That's why I bought the Wii. I refused to have any other console in my house until it came out. We truly enjoy it . It was designed for the family and it certainly lives up to it.
Some of the games simply don't interest me and my daughter gets into her Zelda, which she's already beaten, but I will probably buy Rayman for my birthday so we can take on the rabid attack bunnies! The sports games are my fave, of course, and they put up a decent workout so I have not regretted the purchase one bit.

QuiltAngel
20th March 2007, 06:19 PM
No you weren't mean seajoy! The fact that your kids still talk to you is testamony to that.

My kids had to earn the money to buy any of theirs. Paper routes, summer jobs, etc. My oldest was into the computers, programming and such and the games were kind of an extenstion of that. Plus, they did not get into those games that are controversial. The Sims, Zelda, Mario were the ones they really got into, lots of strategy and planning. None of the graphic shoot em up types.

For your neck: get yourself a neck pillow, and never sleep sitting up. Additionally, inquire about neck traction, preferably intermittent.

Traction dosen't work for the rest of the spine, but it is great for the neck.

Just woke up after a 14 hour sleep. It's how I get over minor throat aches and colds.

Spent most of my evening in a kitchen. We do Meal Makers, which is a place where you go to prepare a bunch of entrees at once, and then bring them home and freeze them to have for dinner over the next month or two. It's been a lifesaver for us. I can have dinner ready in 20 minutes and it's tasty and healthy. It also keeps us out of the restaurants, so in the long run we save money (even though the upfront is rather high). I just take something out of the freezer and put it in the fridge the night before, and it's ready to cook when I get home from work.

Yea, Holiday Inn serves a pretty nice spread for Easter and a place called Bevo Mill. I've taken the family to both. Pricey but worth it. Excellent fair.

Oh wow! I never thought about the Holiday Inn!

We've gone to a few halls that have had brunches and also a fancy schmancy place for the arts that was exquisite!

I never made it to the Bevo Mill. I drove past it numerous times... but never stopped.

Kind of a neat looking place, though. And it's only open at certain times if I remember right.

Did you know it is exactly half way between the brewery and Grant's Farm?

That's supposed to be the story. I thnk it was August A Busch Sr that built it for that reason.

I do a modified form of this. Not Meal Makers, but so-called "investment cooking (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=investment+cooking&btnG=Google+Search)". It's like once-a-month cooking but not so involved. I make an extra chicken when I roast chicken, or I make a crockpot full of chili one weekned, and a crockpot full of pork and kraut the next, and freeze them in one-serving containers. That way we always have about four-six different types of meals in our freezer, for when Hunter comes home late from school, or I'm rushing to get dinner between coming home at 5:30 and going to church at 7.

Since it's only the three of us (and Gem won't eat anything but PB&J or chicken nuggets anyway), it's easy for me to do.

I'll do that too - like if I see boneless chicken on sale, for example, I'll buy a bunch, cook a bunch of it up, and freeze it - then I can just thaw out what I need and throw it in something. Same with lean ground beef. Every Fall I keep saying I'm going to cook up a bunch of stock and freeze it, but it never happens.

With MealMakers, I can get 12 half sized meat entrees (usually three pieces of meat in each entree, unless it's shrimp or scallops, then it's a bunch) for about $160.00. That runs about $13.00 for each entree, and I'll keep the sides simple, like frozen veggies (easier to control the salt) that get warmed up, and minute brown rice (that I cook in low sodium broth or stock to give it more flavor). The meat is fresh and good sized and good quality. I am very comfortable fixing it for company. When we look at dinner out costing an average of $30-$35+ for the two of us, and the added calories in what we usually eat when we go out, this is a steal - and a lot of the time, the food is just as good, and definitely better for us.

I enjoy it because I like going to the different stations with the ingredients already laid out, and you can put it together the way you like. My husband likes going with me to help because it reminds him of chemistry lab with all the measuring devices. We have it down to an art, when it's the two of us, we are in and out in 45 minutes.

If I has more imagination and time to plan it myself, I'd try to do more of it at home. There's also something on Food Network that shows you how to make three separate meals out of one that you put together on a Saturday, or something like that.

... There's also something on Food Network that shows you how to make three separate meals out of one that you put together on a Saturday, or something like that.

I saw the commercials for that. I have a cookbook like that, called the Monday to Friday cookbook (http://www.amazon.com/Monday-Friday-Cookbook-Michele-Urvater/dp/1563057484), where you cook enough meat for three meals.

I'm just not that organized during the week. ^_^ Our schedules don't allow us to sit down as a family for dinner very often. So by the time I get around to making the second meal, the meat's gone bad. So now I just do the freezer thing.

Try training your husband better. As per the Hippo there on the upper right, I am the family disposal, rummaging for leftovers.

Of course, this could lead to further uncouth behaviour.

Today my wife had one of those pretentious "friends" over. So they sat in the living room for over an hour comparing jewelry and just being utterly, oh how shall I put it, "uppity?" She does this infrequently, being normally a more "real" type woman. But today she really went at it.

So I was on the other side of the house, shirtless as usual. She has told me not to walk out bareshirted in front of her friends before (my C-cup sized hairy breasts must be covered, you see, as I have gynecomastia as an inherited trait).

Well, I spot my 10 yold's bright pink ballet tutu, some Barbie knock off made from the gaudiest possible synthetic fiber that has been heavily used in so many imagination games for the last 6 years and has DEFINITELY seen better days (not that in it's prime it was anything but gaudy, even by 5yo standards).

So I get my eldest daughter to tie this drooping tutu around my neck, effectively covering my ample hairy breasts, but not quite my ample hairy belly and cavernous umbilical vestige. For dramatic effect I also don the unicorn hat. Think lots the head of a unicorn done up in sparkles that one wears as a hat.

Upon strolling through the living room in my best straight face, my wife's friend is audibly startled.

Well, I sleep alone tonight.

It was worth it.
