I'm sad.

Does anyone else get sad at Christmas time? I have so much in life to be happy about but I just have an empty feeling right now. I miss my parents, I wish I could give my daughter more presents and money is so tight. I know that this is not what Christmas is all about but I am still sad.
Does anyone have any ideas to get myself out of this mood?:sigh:

Yes, and no, in that order.

I know how you feel Susan and I do sympathise.

The problem is that there are so many pressures on us at this time of year these days, especially when you have children.

We always want to be able to give them all the things they want, the TV assails us daily with yet even more pressure, until we are left feeling like bad parents if we don't 'come up with the goods'.

And it's wrong. Very very wrong.

Answers? Not many really.

Except that you need to remember what Paul said about love.

All those things he listed and said were useless without love? Well apply that to all the pressures and stresses that you feel pile up on you and then think that WITH love they are nothing.

I can't empathise with you about your parents, you have to be in your postion to do that, and I'm not, but I know it must be hard. Àll I can suggest is try and think many years down the line to when Gwen is in your position. What would you want her to do? Well thats what you should do.

Easy for me to say I know, but thats the best I got on that one.

And of course keep focused on the real meaning of Christmas and all the good stuff you have to be thankfull for.

Hi Andy, you have made me feel better. I need to remember that this is Jesus birthday we are celebrating. I want Gwen to grow up understanding that it's the main reason we celebrate this time of year. All the commercials on TV and the stores setting up even before Halloween make me ill. Money-grabbing is what it's all about to them.
Growing up, I never knew the real meaning of the season and I feel upset that I missed out on so much and only concentrated on telling my parents what I wanted.
I just purchased some lovely Christmas cards with nativity scenes on them. I will get those out tonight!!

the thing that makes me sad is that there are all these people celebrating their christmas and not knowing why we are celebrating. the commercialisation of it saddens me.

i try to remind myself though that the 25th wasn't the day jesus was born, but was some other pagan celebration that christians adopted.

I feel fine in the lead up to Christmas - when we are carolling etc. But I often have a downer on Christmas Day. No idea why either.

I miss my dad at this time of year more than any other, because his birthday was on New Years Day. But, I know my dad wouldn't want me getting sad because he isn't around any more, so I try to focus on the good times we had instead of the good times we could be having if he were still here.

So, my advice to people who get gloomy at this time of year is this: Try to focus on the positive things, that there are still many people for whom Christmas is more about celebrating Christ than getting gifts, and that this is one of the biggest opportunities we have each year to get the message of Christ and God's love to those that need to hear it.

I think we have too many expectations, that is usually my problem.
I am looking for a place to live, having marriage problems, trying to buy a car and having health problems.
My house is mess, haven't packed to move and I have been ill.
I want to delay Christmas.

I am sad this year as well because I want to see my fiance on Christmas day but Mum is by herself so i have to go to my Mums which is 250 miles away from my fiances house.
I just think it is time one of my two brothers started doing their christmas duties but they are not interested.
