I was reading a book on prayer and was wondering if anyone here could tell me more about St. Theophan the Recluse.

He is quoted often in the work and I find his persepctive very beautiful.

I 've looked some stuff up, and I see he wrote a bit and was wondering if anyone had any favorites in his books and writings.

St. Theophan is one of my favorite Saints. Are you by chance reading The Art of Prayer?

You might also enjoy The Path to Salvation which is a more comprehensive book and also contains advice on raising children.

Wonderful Saint.. HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theophan_the_Recluse) is some general info....

I work in a libray and was putting away some books today and started looking through: The Art of Prayer An Orthodox Anthology.

It covers prayer in general and has many quotes and such from many Orthodox saints and writers. But I'd say 90% of it is St. Theophan or references his thought. That caught my eye and I wanted to read some of the stuff he wrote directly. I'll look into the titles you recommend.

I thank you and any others who respond very much.

St. Theophan the Recluse is one of my favorites!

This Saint was born in 1802 and reposed in the Lord in the year 1894. He was the most popular spiritual writer of the 19th century Russia, and he was also a modern day interpreter of the ancient wisdom of the Christian East. Not only was St. Theophan a brilliant spiritual psychologit, but he taught not from theory but from his personal experience of the interior life of the spirit and action of Divine Grace. His words have taught me and have changed some of my ways around.

I look forward in reading more books written by him. :D
