My youngest cousin, who just turned 4, is very sick. She has severe animia, elevated white blood counts, and her blood won't clott. They say that it's very dangerous if you have less than 1,700 T-cell count - and she has 4. She has all the symptoms of leukemia, but they have done 5 blood tests and all came back negative. Tomorrow she will be getting a bone marrow test to definitively rule out leukemia. If they rule it out, of course that's very good, but it will also mean they still don't have an answer as to what is making her sick. She is the sweetest little girl with so much energy and it's so sad to see her sick.
Please keep her in your prayers. If you would like to pray for her by name, feel free to PM me and I'll give you her name.
Thanks for the prayers.

I pray that God keeps His hand upon her and continues to strengthen, love and protect her through this and her family. God is in control and He is able to changed the situation, no matter how bad it is. She is in my heart and I will pray for her continuously. Hug her for me. God Bless.

:crosseo: Children should not have to endure these things. Saint Stylianos intercede for this young girl that the physician of our souls and bodies might make her to be well, that she may laugh and play and be joyful, and have her health.

Lord have mercy.
I went through the same tests when I was 18. They thought I had leukemia, and were able to rule it out after extracting marrow from my breast bone.
What they did find was that I had a form of anemia called G6PD. I don't know what impact this has on t-cells, but I do know that because of this deficiency, I have a compromised immune system, and am supposed to stay away from aspirin, quinine (or any antimalarial), moth balls, fava beans (or any legume for that matter)... any of these things can cause an anemic episode for me which may result in severe fatigue, jaundice, and possible risk of infection (such as a cold or flu). Under the microscope, for example, when I have an infection, they will see MANY white blood cells (normal) but very few MATURE red cells. My body is constantly working very hard to replace red cells that just plain die prematurely due to a deficiency in glucose, phosphates, and dehydrogenase (The G, P, and D in G6PD). I get tired sometimes, and my eyes will appear jaundiced when I ingest something on "the list" of things (red wine is another! grrrr!) I should stay away from. It's the sulfates that break the red blood cell down. Anything containing sulfide, sulphates, (sulpha drugs, for example, are another HUGE no-no for G6PD sufferers). The disease is similar to sickle-cell anemia, I'm told, but it is not fatal, and is quite easy to live with. I was told by a doctor when I was young that when I feel sick with a cold, to just go to bed and sleep. I can take an occasional tylenol, but NO aspirin, and limit my citric acid intake (yes, juice could make me sicker when I have a cold or flu)...so I stick to water, tylenol, and sleep.
I pray this child does not have leukemia. I hope they can do additional tests to determine what it is if it ISN'T. It sounds very similar to what they saw in me before running me through a series of tests. My sister was diagnosed with the same thing at 40. Please keep us posted.
