Well, seeing as sound is just vibrations in the air, and the heart could sense these vibrations, it could be considered 'hearing.' But that doesn't really work, since my hands would sometimes be better at hearing than my ears.

What it is, a long time ago, heart was used to refer to what we would now call the conscious mind. Language is inherently artistic, and languages were used to write the Bible.
