What are your thoughts and opinions on the revival of this movement? I just found out about it in the parenting forum and am curious on how my fellow Baptists view it. If you can, please back your views with scripture.
God bless,

I have 4 sons...and that's enough. :D
I think it's a personal choice. Many people choose to not have kids for many reasons and I think it would be wrong for us to beat them up over it.
Remember...
1. sex isn't just for procreation.
2. a man who does not provide for his family is worse than an unbeliever.
Pray and proceed wisely in His counsel.

I never really thought of it as a movement, or of that terminology. (quiverfull)
My wife and I have 4 children, but its best with my wife's health that she probably shouldn't have anymore.
It seems though that if you do have lots of kids though your looked down upon by today's society (and sometimes by your own brothers and sisters in Christ) and I really dont care for people like that. Tells me something down deep about how a person is towards children (and families)in general.

I'm in the dark here. Just what is "quiverfull"?

It basically to be "fruitful and multiply", not using any of the world's methods for "family planning".

Its from when Elijah is in the tower and only shoots like three arrows instead of 6 or 7. People twist it to make it seem like its talking about having children. But its not and when used in the family idea is out of context.

Check out Psalm 127. This is the only time I found "quiver" and "full" in the same verse
YLT
Psa 127:1 A Song of the Ascents, by Solomon. If Jehovah doth not build the house, In vain have its builders laboured at it, If Jehovah doth not watch a city, In vain hath a watchman waked.
Psa 127:2 Vain for you who are rising early, Who delay sitting, eating the bread of griefs, So He giveth to His beloved one sleep.
Psa 127:3 Lo, an inheritance of Jehovah are sons, A reward is the fruit of the womb.
Psa 127:4 As arrows in the hand of a mighty one, So are the sons of the young men.
Psa 127:5 O the happiness of the man Who hath filled his quiver with them, They are not ashamed, For they speak with enemies in the gate!
Does this say we are supposed to have a set amount of kids? I don't think so.
Remember many people can't have kids and it is not due to any fault of their own. I doubt a gracious and merciful God would force people into sin, it simply wouldn't be in His character.

I'm at a complete loss on this one, so I will just stick with the New Testament and leave those full quivers to others. Besides, God made His feelings on birth control very clearly known with Onan in Genesis 38:9. 'Nuff said on that one....

Onan was killed for disobeying God, not for ejaculating outside of the woman, but because he was told not to ejaculate outside of her.
Its the disobedience and the breaking of Gods command, not the action committed.

True, Onan was not punished for wasting his seed.
Matthan, what NT verses are you thinking of?

The verses Paul gave us concerning how a man and his wife should treat each other. If you are looking for a specific citation just let me know and I will track it down...

I think it's a personal choice.
Absolutely it's a personal choice. God gave us all common sense (well most of us anyway). Not everyone wants or can handle/take care of 8 or 10 kids. For that reason I am perfectly fine with birth control.

There is no mention of Birth Control in that. It says that Women are to Respect their husbands, and Men are to love their wives as Christ loved the Church.

Yep, us too. I've seen all the arguements for and against and we do what we feel led to do.

I would like a specific citation. As far as I know, there are no verses that address birth control anywhere in the Bible.
There are plenty that involve sex. Sex being given by God for a few reasons...
procreation
unity--joining of flesh between a man and a woman
pleasure...Song of Solomon
guard against sin..seen in 1 Cor when it talks about not withholding sex

My hubby and I are discussing this right now because we have our first child on the way and the topic of BC came up. I have used it in the past, but the side effects outweigh the "benefit" for me so I told him I don't want to use it ever again. Since he saw what it did to me, he happily agreed and we discussed other options once we were finished having children (we want between 6 and 8).
Now that this topic came up between us we've discussed moving to a less expensive area and just trust God to supply our needs and to let Him decide how many children we will have. I do agree, Psalm 127 isn't really relevant, I just see it as obeying God and trusting Him to take care of us. If He told us to stop having kids, we gladly would, but in all things we would trust Him.
I'm really glad I stared this thread, its been really interesting seeing other people's responses. :)
God bless you all,
Dawn
