Interesting tidbit I caught on Mannafest tonight.
Stone said that on the side of the Galil where Yeshua met up with that man who had 2,000 demons in him, that asked Yeshua to be allowed to go into that herd of swine that ran itself off the cliffs, was a heathen Greek temple of Zeus. And that the offering to Zeus was the pig/swine. Now this matches up with the stories from the Maccabees and our founding of Hanukah and the desecration of the Temple.
I never knew this, but it certainly brings that story more alive and explains why the townspeople wanted him out and gone after losing all their sacrifices to their g0d! :D

I can't seem to find much on this though.
Pausanius provides a description of the statue of Zeus and the temple area at Olympia. Pausanius says a woollen curtain, of eastern design, "adorned with Assyrian weaving and Phoenician purple", was dedicated to Zeus at Olympia by Antiochus IV. Some scholars have speculated that the curtain was one taken from the temple in Jerusalem, when Antiochus plundered its treasures.
Gergesa is the only spot on entire eastern side of Sea of Galilee where there is a steep bank going down to the sea. Here alone is a cliff that falls sheer into the lake. This is not true of Gadara in Jordan 5 miles from the Sea of Gerasa in Jordan 37 miles from Sea (other 2 sites suggested). In 1970 Israeli archaeologist Tzaderis investigated a site of an ancient church dated AD 585. He concluded that early Christians believed that this was the site (Gergesa) of the miracle.

Maybe the prophet who got taken to heaven knows about this?
Isaiah 65:
1 I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. 2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts; 3 A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick; 4 Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels; 5 Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day. 6 Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom, 7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.

I was about to say that.
I watched his series on the temple, and it was all over the map with a lot of error.

Shalom Alecheim
I don't know in this case if "suppositional Substitution" applies but heres what that 24 shekel word means.
We take a set of circumstances, they are similar and so we sunstitut them inot a naother set of circumstances and then state categorically they are true.....it's a field once called suppositional analysis and seems to permeate now alot of scholars ideas rather than hard facts.
There were a few pagan and Roman locations were some swine were proffered. In Galil with the Roman Garrison there is a archaelogical record of some "minor" offences done by Roman honoring Ceasar.
On another note in other locations throughout occupied Israel by Rome there are places where swine was applied.
However, the Gadarene account reaching backward to maccabean validation and forward to New Testament substatiation would be rejected outright by Hebrew University Scholars as the premise extends the tmetable and era off according to "them".
Is that a absolute source? No.
But given the self criticsim by Orthodox Judaism of some of the Channukah stories and the "convenient" oil as One Rabbinical Rabbi wrote, sometimes it's good to look long and hard at too convenient a coicidience without some corresponding alternative sources.
Personally I like the Idea proposed and may have a slightly different take on the same theme and subject, but to "stand" on it if challenged (smile....and I get challenged alot....) I would say it has a basis for Truth but might not be as acurate as related.
You know when I look at "new" ideas....I try to see where they extend backward and forward and sideways on both sides to see if it fits how I view The W-rd as I have studied.
If it in some shade steers me away from appreciation or explanation or relaization of Messiah in some way.....I have a hard time ....errr....digesting it.....if it magnifys and exemplifys and deifys and makes G-d so much greater than I can figure out logically and in debate, than I feast and engorge myself on it and perhaps err on the side of relationship, but oh to err on knowing Him better I delight in.
This taste like fast food.

Alecheim Shalom
