I'm a bit confused recently about where we belong. I'm not sure if we're really protestant anymore, but if we're not that then what are we? We currently belong to a church that advertises themselves as non-denominational but in actuality was started by a missionary church, so that's what we are. If anyone could help me, I'd sure appriciate it.

Here are some of our beliefs:

-We believe in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ - not a religion (and/or a bunch of cermonies that are "holy")

-We do believe in communion, and would like to observe this weekly

-We do not believe there should be any judgment on other believers (IE "we are the true Christians!" ) We are all one body in Christ, all the denominations - even the ones we don't necessarily agree with

-We believe in no brith control, unless getting pregnant would threaten the mother's life

-We believe in an up-beat modern worship service

-We believe in water baptisms and also being filled with the Hold Spirit (or baptisim in the Holy Spirit)

-We do believe in the rapture

I think those are all the big ones really. From what I read in the "No creed just Christ" forum, it sounded alot like what we believe. The problem is, my husband grew up in a Church of Christ and they beleive VERY differently from us. We don't want a thing to do with Church of Christ. At least from our expierences.

If anyone has any ideas of paticular denomintaions that sound like us, I'd appriciate the recommendation. Thanks! :)

I would say you sound like you would fit best in either a non-denominational church or Assembly of God church. But, I don't know if either has communion weekly. You didn't say what you believe communion does for you? Is it just a reminder of what Jesus did for you or is it something more or different than that?
I have never heard a sermon about birth control. I'm not sure how that would factor into the choice of where to go to church. Seems like that is more of a personal decision than anything else.

Yes, communion to us is a reminder of what Jesus has done.

I mentioned birth control just because it would sure be nice to find some place that believes the same as we do. It's not a complete neccessity, but it would be really nice. I think what you mentioned about never hearing a seromn on it is one of our big problems, and is why everyone assumes it's okay. I have never heard a sermon either urging people to pray on the matter or do some searching in the Bible. I feel it's very important to pray and research int he Bible on this topic. But I won't condemn anyone for not believing the same as we do. It's a personal issue with God that everyone needs to address, and that's where I leave it. But anyhow, it would be pretty nice to find a whoel church that believes the same as we do on this topic.

I'll have to look into Assembly of God churches, thanks for the suggestion!

there are many " nomickers " for independant churches
Word of Faith , 4 Square Gospel , Pentecostal , Assemblies of God , Church of God in Christ , etc.

Many of which are refered to as " water shed churches " or a church that shepherds those who do not seem to fit in the " standard " denominational molds : methodist , baptist , nazarene , catholic , lutheran , etc.

as long as you embrace faith , hope , love , Jesus , the trinity , what is contained in the 100 words of our faith the apostles creed ... you are in the ball park

if there is evidence in your local church . evidence of your faith , outreaches ( Mat. 25.32-42 / James chap. 1 & 2 ) , you are doing more than many of your christian brethren ...

are you at peace ? do you have a task , however great or small , outside of the church sevice ... writing letters , handing out tracts , witnessing , visiting the sick , infirm , prisoners ... ?

then it does not matter what your church is called , for God calls you blessed ... Eph. 6.18-19 ; Jas 5.18-19 ; Mat. 28.18
