Wow. Great question. I'd never given it any thought but I can see how it could become sinful or cause sinful acts, though I don't think it is sinful in and of itself. I guess it would depend on the circumstances.

I don't think so. Think of all the family businesses people have. It is natural to bring in your own family to work in your own business.
But if it is used in a bad manner, for example in a business the owner brings in his son to work for him and his son is verbally abusive to others, or sexually harrasses other staff and there is no consequences as he is the owner's son, that could be a sin. (Assuming the owner knew about this behavior and looked the other way.)

"Thou shall not favor thy family over other's"
No just kidding. I have never heard anything about this, allthough Xenia gave a good response.

I hope not! My kid wants a job at the hotel where I work (as a bellboy) when he's old enough to work. Sure, if I had a farm, he'd be bailing hay, but given we're city folk now...

I've seen public businesses where those in charge will bring in family members into positions over those that would logically be next in line for those positions.
In that sense it can be bad.
I've also seen certain male executives "promote" their secretaries into certain positions over more qualified applicants.
(I watched one secretary to the president of a company become a vice president after six months at the company.)
But that's not exactly nepotism, that's an ethical issue.

No, of course not. God does it. Who sits on the right and left hand of enfleshed God in Heaven? His mother and His cousin.
:-)
Grace and peace,

Depends on what level. Nepotism in the small family business, sure, that's fine. The family is ultimately going to bear the costs if it doesn't work out. In other cases, well, networking is always very important in getting any sort of job and there's nothing too wrong with that if it's not abused: it really is better to hire somebody you know a little bit about than some unknown quantity.

I don't care what business you are in, ....
What you know is important, but it is always about WHO you know!
forgive me.

Reminds me of an old episode of The Cosby Show.
Kenny: My brother says it's not what you know, it's who you know.
Teacher: Well, who does your brother know?
Kenny: Nobody, that's why he doesn't have a job.

Not in itself. In Church it frequently conducted to a sin though.

I work for a publicly traded large corporation.
It's hard to find a person working here (inluding myself) who doesn't have a relative who at one time also worked for the company.
My father introduced me to the industry and to the company, and although he opened the door for me, I had to prove my own merit to stay.
Is it a sin? Like most things in life, only when abused is it sinful.
