Has anyone else noticed a correlation between the four winds and souls?
Jeremiah 49:36
Daniel 7:2
"I had a vision at night; I saw there befoe me the four winds of the sky breaking out over the great sea..."
Daniel 8:8
The male goat then became extremely strong; but when it was strong the big horn was broken; and in its place arose what appeared to be four horns in the directions of the four winds of heaven."
Ezekiel 37:9
"...Come from the four winds, breath; and breath on these slain, so that they can live."
Matthew 24:31
"He will send out his angels with a great shodar; and they will gather together his chosen people from the four winds, from one end of heaven (not earth) to the other."
Revelation 7:1-3
"After this, I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind would blow on the land, on the sea or on any tree......3 Do nor harm the land or the sea or the threes until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads!"
Has anyone else done research on the significance of the four winds? I would be interested to see what you think they mean and why mention of them is only in books of prophecy and future events.
By the way - I should have made this thread [open]. Any who wish to respond feel free.

I remember reading about this a long time ago, but don't remember it all. Something to do with Spirit of G-d and breath, the breath of life.........
I'm sure Ants has got some studies on this some where.! :)

Ani, are you sure I don't know you from another forum?
;)
I had a site that discussed that, and I have misplaced it :( I know for certian I have a book that deals with it, but I think it's in my car (which isn't at the house, i still need to fetch it)... :(
Uhoh..!
RIght now this is what I can find quickly on the internet
The Westminster Dictionary of the Bible has a paragraph on the significance of "east" which reads: East. The direction toward the sunrise (as is denoted by the Hebrew and Greek words employed in Josh. 11:3; 12:3, etc.; Matt. 2:1).
The Hebrews faced the point of the rising sun when they determined direction; hence the east was the front (as is denoted by the Hebrew word in Gen. 2:8). The orientation of the east gate of the Temple at Jerusalem was important; it was so built that on the days of the spring and fall equinoxes the first rays of the rising sun, heralding the advent of the glory of God, could penetrate into the Holy of Holies.
In harmony with the foregoing, note that on page 13 of Tabernacle Shadows (T13) paragraph one, we read:
This structure was 15 feet wide, 15 feet high, and 45 feet long, and open at the front or east end. (italics ours)
In an interesting and profitable article published in the August-September 1959 Herald, the contributor also cor[wash my mouth]rectly represents this matter on page 123, in the following words:
RETURN WESTWARD TO GOD
It has been suggested above that just as eastward represents departure from God, so westward bespeaks a drawing nigh unto him. Thus Abraham's separation unto God from Ur was in the direction of the west. The same lesson is clearly depicted Scripturally in connection with the Tabernacle of the Wilderness and Solomon's Temple.
Both of these structures were oriented' so that their gateways were on the east side, necessitating entrance from that quarter. Progress through the Court into the Holy and thence into the Most Holy or Inner Sanctuary, where the Divine Presence was symbolized in the Shekinah Light between the cherubim, was therefore westward.
When, in the days of Ezekiel the Prophet, gross idolatry on the part of Israel had invaded the very Temple of God itself and the symbol of his Presence could no longer abide there, the Glory of God was seen to withdraw eastward by stages until finally it was seen to rest on the Mount of Olives to the east of the city. (Ezek. 9:3; 10:18, 19; 11:22, 23.) One such manifestation of idolatry in the Temple area is recorded in chapter 8, twenty-five men being seen with their backs to the Temple worshiping the sun towards the east.
I know who would have the study.. Joel..!

I came across some Psalms that may be signifigant to your studies:
Psalms 103:1 By David: Bless ADONAI,my soul! Everything in me, bless his holy name! 2 Bless ADONAI, my soul, and forget none of his benefits! 3 He forgives all your offenses, he heals all your diseases, 4 he redeems your life from the pit, he surrounds you with grace and compassion, 5 he contents you with good as long as you live, so that your youth is renewed like an eagle's.
6 ADONAI brings vindication and justice to all who are oppressed. 7 He made his ways known to Moshe, his mighty deeds to the people of Isra'el. 8 ADONAI is merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in grace. 9 He will not always accuse, he will not keep his anger forever. 10 He has not treated us as our sins deserve or paid us back for our offenses, 11 because his mercy toward those who fear him is as far above earth as heaven. 12 He has removed our sins from us as far as the east is from the west. 13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, ADONAI has compassion on those who fear him. 14 For he understands how we are made, he remembers that we are dust. 15 Yes, a human being's days are like grass, he sprouts like a flower in the countryside - 16 but when the wind sweeps over, it's gone; and its place knows it no more. 17 But the mercy of ADONAI on those who fear him is from eternity past to eternity future, and his righteousness extends to his children's children, 18 provided they keep his covenant and remember to follow his precepts. 19 ADONAI has established his throne in heaven; his kingly power rules everything. 20 Bless ADONAI, you angels of his, you mighty warriors who obey his word, who carry out his orders! 21 Bless ADONAI, all his troops, who serve him and do what he wants! 22 Bless ADONAI, all his works, in every place where he rules! Bless ADONAI, my soul!
Psalms 104:1 Bless ADONAI, my soul! ADONAI, my God, you are very great; you are clothed with glory and majesty, 2 wrapped in light as with a robe. You spread out the heavens like a curtain, 3 you laid the beams of your palace on the water. You make the clouds your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind. 4 You make winds your messengers, fiery flames your servants. 5 You fixed the earth on its foundations, never to be moved. 6 You covered it with the deep like a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. 7 At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they rushed away, 8 flowing over hills, pouring into valleys, down to the place you had fixed for them. 9 You determined a boundary they could not cross; they were never to cover the earth again.
10 You make springs gush forth in the vadis; they flow between the hills, 11 supplying water to all the wild animals; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. 12 On their banks the birds of the air build their nests; among the branches they sing. 13 You water the mountains from your palace; the earth is satisfied with how you provide 14 You grow grass for the cattle; and for people you grow the plants they need to bring forth bread from the earth, 15 wine that gladdens the human heart, oil to make faces glow, and food to sustain their strength. 16 ADONAI's trees are satisfied -the cedars of the L'vanon, which he has planted. 17 In them sparrows build their nests, while storks live in the fir trees. 18 For the wild goats there are the high mountains, while the coneys find refuge in the rocks.
19 You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set. 20 You bring darkness, and it is night, the time when all forest animals prowl. 21 The young lions roar after their prey and seek their food from God. 22 The sun rises, they slink away and lie down to rest in their dens; 23 while people go out to their work, laboring on till evening. 24 What variety there is in your works, ADONAI! How many [of them there are]! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creations. 25 Look at the sea, so great, so wide! It teems with countless creatures, living beings, both large and small. 26 The ships are there, sailing to and fro; Livyatan, which you formed to play there. 27 All of them look to you to give them their food when they need it. 28 When you give it to them, they gather it; when you open your hand, they are well satisfied. 29 If you hide your face, they vanish; if you hold back their breath, they perish and return to their dust. 30 If you send out your breath, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth. 31 May the glory of ADONAI last forever! May ADONAI rejoice in his works! 32 When he looks at the earth, it trembles; when he touches the mountains, they pour out smoke. 33 I will sing to ADONAI as long as I live, sing praise to my God all my life. 34 May my musings be pleasing to him; I will rejoice in ADONAI. 35 May sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more! Bless ADONAI, my soul! Halleluyah!
In these two psalms I see a relationship between the breath of G-d, his 'Holy Wind" and life, creation, sustanace, and death.
Adam was but a piece of formed clay until G-d breathed into him, and gave live, and Adam became a Living Soul.

I had basically come to the same conclusions and in some ways taken them a little father. Personally I believe in a soul sleep, or where the soul is aware but in a vaccum where neither time or space is relevant and the period between death and eternal life with the father is but a blink of the eye. I guess the question here is where do the souls go while they sleep or where is this vacuum? I thought that it may be possible that they are held by the angels of the four winds until it is time for them to be released at G-d's command. For instance in Revelation when it is talking about the angels of the four winds I don't read it in the context with the next passage as a litteral wind or breeze but as the angels holding back the life force of those things. I could be completely wrong but I get no feeling to that extent if that makes sense.

That sounds really interesting,
I will have to meditate on that awhile.
Do you make a distinction between soul and spirit?

No, I see them as the same thing. I also find it interesting though that when the Holy Spirit is talked about it has sometimes been called a "small voice in the wind" etc. Hmmm....only G-d knows really.

to me the four winds have signified the four cardinal directions and by association "every" direction.... the whole world....

Yes, I think that it signifies everywhere that HaShem is, like on Sukkot, when in the Sukkah we wave the lulav in the four compass directions and up and down, for the same reason, but he is everywhere in between as well :)

Winds are used to describe mighty beliefs that consume the mind, they can be brought about through deception which comes from the Devil, and they can also be from the mighty workings of our Lord through the Holy Spirit.
Daniel 8:8 Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.
Jeremiah 49:36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come.
Turmoil and tribulation among the nations, strife stirring up the masses, all are making the rushing about, rushing sounds of many waters, or winds.
Isaiah 17:12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
Since we are in the middle of the final battlefield, there is two types of winds, the winds of strife which is the working of the devil, so if you are stirred up to manifest an angry, hateful, evil intent, then it is not of God. The workings of the Lord which are to wake us up from dead works and beliefs into a new life with His Spirit in us and to do the good works that God has commanded us to do, peculiar given the circumstances, but understandable in the light of gospel and in the hope of salvation.
Ezekiel 37:9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army. 11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. 12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. 13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, 14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.
Daniel 7:2 Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.
Isaiah 17:12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
The great sea is the multitudes upon the earth, the vast human sea of humanity which the four winds like doctrines strive to control our minds, those to bring us closer to the Lord and those to lead us into servitude to the Antichrist.
Daniel 11:4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.
Zechariah 2:6 Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the LORD.
At the sound of the trumpets, the message will get to the people of God and they will gather from the four corners of earth into the truth.
Matthew 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
There are four winds of earth which are the winds of strife that the devil can stir up, and they are being held back from having full sway upon the multitudes until every one has a chance to receive the seal of the Living God.
Revelation 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree
You remember the parable that the Lord told about building the house on the rock, so that when the winds blew and the floods came, it was not moved. We understand the foundation for the house was a solid foundation of Christ. Building a foundation for the Temple of God which you are, in which God may dwell will need to be strong to withstand every wind of doctrine, and the over flooding of satanic deceptive lies manifested to deceive the very elect in the last hours of earth’s history.
Matthew 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
So how are the people of God to be prepared for this experience that the world has and not be over come in some deception of Satan. They are themselves to have an experience with God, in their Temple. This indwelling of the Holy Spirit will seal them to the truth. Just as the disciples were told to stay in the upper room until the Holy Spirit comes, so are we to wait upon the Lord, praying for deliverance only He can give us. Praying for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that we might walk in the light of truth.
Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
