I wonder if anyone's come to Messiah through Chick tracts... perhaps! Hope so...

I've always been strongly against Chick stuff though:mad:. That tract wasn't so bad, but some of them are completely horrid. ugh.

OK, I'm about to sing (or hum) a few bars of that song... "don't laugh at me, don't call me names.." :D

I grew up reading Chick Tracts (yes, really!). My grandfather and grandmother were really into their church they attended and chick tracts as well as one other type (the one page, folded in half kind) were the "way to do it" - of handing out tracts.

If I remember right, "This was your life" was the one that scared me enough when I was little, to make a committment.

I guess it helped some being able to read at 4 1/2... LOL

Some of his stuff really gets to me.. but some of it's ok..

To Jack Chick: Oh plu-eez....the woeful stereotypes! "Make some chicken soup while I call Dr. Levi".

Somehow, I don't think this tract will convert many Jews.

Many years ago someone places Chick Tracts under the door to my husbands store - he did read them and they did make him curious along with the stuff he was hearing other places. So they did play a part in his coming to accepting Yeshua as messiah.

But that tract in the link - YIKES! Why oh why do Christians pray to Jesus!?! He told us to pray to Avinu Shebashmayim - Father in Heaven in His name, not to Him. Pet peeve of mine!

And I doubt that particular tract would do much more than offend.

We all would like to believe that there is only the "right" way of spreading the message. We must admit that there are all different kinds of folks and all different kinds of approaches of truth for each. Chick tracts stir the pot and get people to question their relationship to God. It is a quick coverage of the first steps from the deceptions of this world and the first steps towards a new life in the Messiah. While comic book approach is not for everyone, it does appeal to some and does bring conviction. Where they go from there only the Holy Spirit can direct them. I say do not knock that which is not against the working of the Holy Spirit in the heart towards a new understanding and freedom from the bondage of sin, lies and deceptions that hold so many captive. Mark 9:37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. 38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

I have always said “It’s not the massager, but the message that counts”. G-d word is sharper than a two edge sword cutting through the bone and marrow even to the soul. I could teach a parrot to say “Yeshua saves” and someone could accept this and find salvation [the Holy Spirit drawing] does this mean that the parrot is something? I would say not. But it’s the message: “Yeshua does save”. Chick tracts also played a part in my salvation so did the play “Jesus Christ Superstar” So did sitting in a bar getting drunk with a group of friends and talking about who Jesus was. They all had a common thread running thought them. The Holy Spirit was using them to draw me to “JESUS SAVES”.

As for this tract this is what I didn’t like.

"Jesus fulfilled the Jewish law perfectly and is the Savior of all mankind. He wants to save YOU right now... if you will put your faith in him."

And we all know how the Church has twisted the word “Fulfilled”.

Ummmm, but aren't all Jews eventually suppose to be saved? I thought I read that in Scripture.

Actually, it says all Israel will be saved. If I had to take a stab in the dark, I'd say Jack Chick's definition of Israel is different from that of this forum's participants. ;)

Hmmm, could you explain to me what the difference is between Jews (Yahudim) and Israelites (Israel) are? I thought they were one and the same, no?

...and sorry to the thread opener for the drift... is it really a drift cuz I find that Jack Chick's track is off, somehow... am I wrong to 'feel' or 'discern' this?

:sorry:

Well, I would say there's no difference, but replacement theology runs deep outside of MJ/Jewish Roots circles.

Somehow, I don't think this tract will convert many Jews.Steriotypes, not to mention he has just insulted every Jewish woman for hundreds of years! I guess he thinks our Jewish Penicillin comes in a can, that can be made in the time it takes to make a phone call. Oy!~ It takes me two days to make a good pot!

Now he could have said, 'Heat up some Soup while I call the doctor', or 'Go get your father a bowl of soup off the stove'.............. :sigh:

But I found much more wanting and insulting, I think his main focus it to provoke here.

And I've never heard of fluid 'ON' the lungs, in maybe.......

And a Rabbitzin needs to be told to pray for her husband???.....

And what Jew needs to be told what Kaddish is?

And what kind of Messiah would wait to show himself through scripture when a man is racked with fever and can't breath, let alone think coherently?

I can't believe that has been in circulation for 10 years. Someone should write him and tell him to stop wasting peoples money on these, because they will only turn a Jew off. And ask if he consulted any Messianic Jews to help him understand how to word it to reach a Jew.

This is too much. :(

Well, I have dealt with Jack Chick before. (Long story)

Put it this way, if anyone ever gets critical of his comics, he will simply ignore them and tell them they are either weak in faith and afraid of confrontation or even that they are outright unbelievers.

Years ago he put out a series of books by a character called "Dr. Rebecca Brown, MD". This person alleged to have been a high ranking witch who became "born again" and her books were supposed to lift the lid on what actual witches do, spiritual warfare and her personal encounters with the Devil. It turned out that the woman was a hoax, was never a doctor and was really just some person with a drug problem. It took Jack Chick some time before he admitted that he was deceived and distanced himself from her and stopped publishing her books. (I notice that some other publishers have taken up her latest book- very sad).

Then there's the infamous Alberto Rivera comics. They are the "testimony" of a former Jesuit priest, who tells the inside story of the sinister evils of the Roman Catholic church, what allgedly goes on behind closed doors and the like. He paints a very devilish picture of them. The problem is, he was a fraud too. Even Christianity Today ran an article on him and so forth. Jack Chick was deceived again. However, with this case, he still buys "Alberto"s story and defends his ridiculous claim to have been a priest. Sad, really, that the guy could be such a sucker.

So, you see, it's very difficult to get through to the brain of the fundie Jack Chick. He's a fundamentalist Baptist who believes only the KJV is accurate and all other translations are demonic. The fact that his tract for converting Jews is not only insulting but stupid doesn't reflect any ill-will on his part, IMHO, but rather just the fact that he's painfully unaware of what really goes on in the world around him and is afraid to go out and find out.
