I ate a few of their products during the Lenten fast. They were okay, nothing special.

from what I understand, while the manufacters' claim it is "non-allergenic" it has been known to cause allergic reactions in people allergic to mushrooms and fungi. Since we have multiple allergies in my family, we have not tried anything with quorn in it. Also, be aware that even on their FAQ site, they list that eggs and dairy are used in the manufacturing. While it may not be a big deal in terms of fasting, this is enough to cause an allergic reaction in some people. I do have a vegan neighbor who went nuts when it first came out and bought everything she could find. The family tried them all and found that they weren't any better than the more traditional meat substitutes and were twice as expensive.

We eat the nuggets every now and then, they're great with just lemon juice. Even hubs cousin who is a big bad Marine came in one day and grabbed one and said: These chicken nuggets are so much better than McD. We weren't going to say anything but hubs kept cracking up and he was all surprised to learn it wasn't chicken.

I really like Tempeh. And it's not a fake-meat, which I prefer b/c I don't like the TASTE of meat.

fake meat=pooh
my view is if youre just going to eat substitutes of all the things you cant eat, you might as well just eat the stuff youre not supposed to eat. fo rizzle dawgs. yeeeeeeeeah.

I was just going to make a huge pot of vegetable stew, and live off of it for a while. :yum: I could do that with or without a fast, anyway.

I made some potato and leek soup and froze it last week. Later this week, I'll make and freeze from sweet potato and black bean chilli.

True, very true.
That is why during the great fast (and the upcoming nativity fast...which has already started for me), I don't go for 'substitute foods'.

I got started last weekend, and made a HUGE pot of squash and zucchini in tomato sauce that I can pour over anything (mainly rice, but I'm going to try it over boiled bulgar tonight, since I had some left over from the last batch of kibbi).

Almost all the artificial meat-like substitutes in the supers is corn-soy-mushroom based and I am terribly allergic to all three. That kind of food almost killed me several times.
